Just Because We Were Jewish, We Couldn't Live There

Jews may be slightly paranoid for good reason.  We've been kicked out of so many countries in the past 2,000 years that we just wait around for the other shoe to fall.  Look at the history we've had being the unpopular guy. Even in the wonderful United States Jews suffered from anti-Semitism, especially from 1920-1951.  There was a limit as to how many Jews could enter the country-even just before the Holocaust, how many could attend medical school, and certainly weren't welcomed in country clubs.  We were reminded who we were in others' eyes and words. Our children have been very lucky to not have had to experience such facts.   Losing our country caused us to wander throughout the world.

Monday's Toulouse, France Murderer Belongs to al-Qaida

On Monday, a motorcyclist with helmet shot at close range and killed 3 children and a Rabbi at a Jewish school in Toulouse.  The killer, who turns out to be a Muslim, Mohammad "Meharin, had then called French TV stations after the  attacks and said he had avenged French participation in the Afghan war, the "suffering" of Gaza Palestinians and the Sarkozy government's ban on the veil in public places for Muslim women."  Police suspected he had videotaped his killings, and it turns out he had. 

Toulouse police stormed a house at dawn after a 12 hour siege where this al Qaeda gunman, Mohammed Merahin, 24 yr old  French Algerian  was hiding.  He shot and injured 3 policemen before admitting he committed the crimes for al Qaeda.  This killer trained in Pakistan and Afghanistan.  He had been active in Forsane Alizze (Knights of Pride) , a 2 year old  extremist Islamic organization which was only outlawed in February for support of terrorism but had been identified before that with al Qaeda.  His 4 Jewish victims were buried in Jerusalem.

His home was only 2 km from the school.  He had also killed 2 French paratroopers and wounded a 3rd last Thursday.  His brother and his girlfriend were also arrested as his accomplices.  At the same time the police stormed his house, security police made swoops on extremist Muslim hideouts all across France. 

Claude Gueant, French Interior Minister, said that the man was a suspect early on in the killings of the paratroopers.  The police had asked Merahin's mother to take up contact with him as part of police negotiations but had refused.  French foreign Minister Alain Juppe flew to Israel with the victims and attended the funerals as a mark of French-Israeli solidarity.

Anti-Semitism from Seattle to Sacramento

A US district court judge ruled against  the group suing King County and the Metro Bus Co because they refused to run an anti-Israel ad on their buses in Seattle, Washington.  What chutzpa this group has.  Seattle has already felt the attack on the Jewish Federation office where workers inside were injured.  They knew such ads would only bring on more attacks.

Now we have a white supremacist couple right here in Portland, Oregon who killed  2 family members. David Pedersen shot his own 56 year old father and his girlfriend, Holly, slashed the neck of his 69 year old stepmother for him  and then they came across a 19 year old Cody Myers.  Thinking he was Jewish by his surname, they also killed him with the intention of going on a hunt to kill more Jews  in Sacramento, California.  Before they got there they killed their 4th victim.  David Pedersen, 31 and Holly Gigsley, 24 have been caught. 
Update: 10/15/11 The 4th victim was a 53 year old black man, Reginald Alan  Clark of Eureka, California.  The killings "were part of a mission to further white supremacist beliefs," stated 24 year old Holly Grigsby, held in jail in Marysville, California.  She had gone to high school in Portland, attending Parkrose High.  Now she's up for 4 murders.  Within a month she and her killer boyfriend, David Pedersen, 31, will be returned to Washington for the first two murders.  .
