Hadassah in Portland Explains Latest Updates in Diabetes

Portland was privileged to host a great doctor from Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem yesterday through the efforts of Hadassah Pacific Northwest and Portland Chapter, November 8th at Jake's Grill in SW Portland. It was a kickoff to re-start the Portland Chapter arranged by Peg Elefant, PNWR President and Diana Lindemann, member.    He showed us a slide of Hadassah Hospital and the neighborhood nearby, which was where Palestinian Arabs were living.  1/3 of them were terrorists during this Jerusalem rioting of the past several weeks  and were providing the danger that the medical staff had to beware of in getting to work.  Some others from this area were either patients or medical staffers working at the hospital.
                                                                     

 Dr. David Zangen, a senior pediatrician at Hadassah Hospital as well as medical researcher spoke about Diabetes and disorders of sexual development to a group of Hadassah members of about  40 from several parts of Oregon.   Zangen is in Pediatrics, but that extends to the age of 29 in helping people with the condition.  His findings are helping adults as well.  He not only has had dealings with researchers here in the field, but is also noted in Israel for his service as captain in the IDF and was a Major and Chief Medical Officer in his Brigade.   David Pasternack joined  Hadassah in 2014 to oversee all fundraising efforts.  He was unable to travel with Dr. Zangen this time though he had planned to, but  has orchestrated doctor, dignitary and leadership visits throughout the Nation to spread Hadassah's message of healing, teaching and research.  Behind the program  planning and organizing it was Harriett Zeitlin, Director of Development for Hadassah Western Regions.
                                                                       

Dr. Zangen showed videos of the development of finding out what the causes of diabetes were and how they have found ways of changing the cells in order for patients to not have to have insulin shots, but to take medication, instead.                                          

 When a person with diabetes eats a sugary food, the sugar is not used properly, and they have learned to close the door or open the door of their pancreas.  What I learned as a layperson without actual experience with diabetes is that sugar is necessary to feed the brain.  Without it, the brain can die, and thus we do.  And here I've been avoiding sugar as much as possible!  We relished the fresh strawberries Jake's Grill served that were so sweet!  I felt relieved!
                                                                   

IDF (Israel Defense Forces) 

I have more admiration for Zanger than ever from his military days in 2002 during the days of the 2nd Intifada  when he became a spokesman for the IDF against charges that were lies (as usual).  Entering the camp was part of Operation Defensive Shield, a time the Palestinians were overtly attacking Israelis.  Jenin refugee camp ""served as a launch site for numerous terrorist attacks against both Israeli civilians and Israeli towns and villages in the area. Zangen  had been a doctor of the brigade that fought in the Jenin refugee camp  which was under the Palestine Authority of Abbas, from April 1-11, 2002 and had treated many of the wounded.  Most of the IDF were reserve soldiers and were all very careful.  The Unit and Divisional Commanders fighting were the best of the Israeli people.  What impressed the doctor was that they kept the IDF alive and did not lose their humanity.

The paramedics and Zangen risked their lives to treat the wounded Palestinians.  They even bothered to treat the sick Arabs they came across.  The Palestinian doctors didn't come to their aid and of course the Israeli medics couldn't leave them without medical treatment.  The soldiers brought over a girl of Jenin to the doctors with appendicitis and they treated her.  Another case was a child with a neck wound and they saved his life in spite of his Islamic Jihad tattoo.  Every Palestinian were provided with full treatment that made him proud.  They kept civilian casualties down by administering to them.

Then, the UN Special Envoy to the Middle East, Terje Larsen, called the  Jenin situation a "Massacre carried out by the Israelis in Jenin that were such lies and infuriated Dr. Zanger.  The doctor had seen everything with his own eyes close at hand.  He saw how the soldiers did everything it could to prevent civilian casualties.  The IDF could have resorted to aerial bombardment or heavy artillery like other armies might have.  If they had done that, they would have reached their mission in half a day without suffering any of their own casualties, but that's not what they did.  They took risks of their own lives in the fighting in trying to rescue those innocent civilians caught in the battle.  He said, "Anyone who says that Israel carried out a massacre is lying and inciting the Arabs.  Instead of  acting to bring about reconciliation and peace, Larsen is creating hatred."

Why is it that this "Norwegian diplomat, politician and sociologist had to make out that Israel was acting in such ways?  We expect better from such an educated man.  I'm wondering if the fact that Norway has not been backing Israel has something to do with it.  A country always at odds with Sweden, my grandmother used to say, "Oh...those Norwegians, and shake her head sadly."  Sweden did house Jewish refugees from WWII, but of late has been accepting Muslim refugees that have been busy attacking the Jews in Malmo, causing them to finally move to Israel.  Norway is known to be anti-Semitic.  Their thinking is contrary.  "In a recent interview, Norway's Ambassador to Israel has suggested that Hamas terrorism against Israel is more justified than the recent terrorist attack against Norway. His reasoning is that, "We Norwegians consider the occupation to be the cause of the terror against Israel." In other words terrorism against Israeli citizens is the fault of Israel."  

Israel is not "OCCUPYING."  Countries can't get that through their heads.  Israel is not occupying Gaza.  Jews were living there.  The government forced them to leave in order to have a peaceful solution.  Then the terrorists took over and turned it into a launching pad of rockets, mortars and missiles against Israel.  Israel is not occupying Judea or Samaria.  They have Jews who live in there, and remember, this was the original site of ancient Israel and Judea, an area very close to the hearts of all Jews.  What Israel did this time is allow the PA to be the administrators.  The land is divided into areas of A, B, and C according to the Oslo Accords.  C is Jewish land.  A is Arab land.  B is to be shared.  

"Numerous legal authorities  dispute the charge that Jewish neighborhoods  and towns are “illegal.” Stephen Schwebel, formerly President of the International Court of Justice, notes that a country acting in self-defense may seize and occupy territory when necessary to protect itself.   Schwebel also observes that a state may require, as a condition for its withdrawal, security measures designed to ensure its citizens are not menaced again from that territory.

According to Eugene Rostow, a former Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs in the Johnson Administration,Resolution 242 gives Israel a legal right to be in  Judea and Samaria. The resolution, Rostow noted, “Israel is entitled to administer the territories” it won in 1967 until ‘‘a just and lasting peace in the Middle East’’ is achieved.   Though critical of Israeli policy, the United States does not consider settlements illegal." 

I imagine that this Larsen had never been there, was relying on Arab reports, and even if he was there, would not know what he was seeing and could not understand anything amid the frenzy of battle.  The doctor was a trained soldier as well.  He knew what he was seeing.  I have a feeling that Larsen spun enough incitement to cause Norway to be most known as a well known  anti-Semitic country.  Strange since young female Scandinavians like to go to Israel in the winter to sun bathe and swim.

Zangen reported that only a few dozen homes had been destroyed, homes that had been booby-trapped in order to kill entering soldiers.  Jenin had been a fortress of terrorism.  200 terrorists wired up the camp with booby-traps.  They had taken control of the camp and were recruiting suicide bombers at every opportunity.  A 1/3 of the suicide bombers have come from the Jenin refugee camp.  They found photo albums with pictures of children wearing explosive belts;  studio photos of future martyrs "shahidim", and teens from 16 to 18 who wanted to kill Israelis in suicide attacks.  In all the homes they found that walls were covered wall to wall with pictures of martyrs.  Martyrs are these people's heroes.

Thank goodness a  respected doctor who was an eye witness spoke out against the false allegations of Mr. Larsen.

Portland, Oregon's Human Rights Commission Voted to BDS Companies in Israel

Oh, they are so smart, the HRC Human Rights group in City Hall..

 Human Rights Commissioners are appointed by the Portland City Council.   The Human Rights Commissioners are volunteers who work without pay.   They had 2 people on their committee who voted for BDS against Israel and chatter is they didn't even know what they were voting for.  Since then they have renounced their votes but are not allowed to do so by the Human Righters.  Once you've voted, you've had it!

Portland is going wild.  This Portland government council dumped all their Walmart bonds.  Not appropriate for them.  Politically incorrect company. 

 "The idea, championed by City Commissioner Steve Novick, led to Portland City Hall last December expanding its "do not buy" list of corporations in which it refuses to invest its $940 million portfolio. That list currently includes Wal-Mart and fossil-fuel companies such as Chevron and Exxon Mobil.

                                                                           

Barzeli Medical Center in Ashkelon, Israel, Portland's sister city.  This city has suffered greatly from rockets, mortars and missiles from Gaza.  They've had to move underground to do surgeries quite often.  They care for Arabs as well as Jews.  

A step further to controlling Israel came their way.  "Earlier this month, the Portland Human Rights Commission, an independent offshoot of the city's Office of Equity and Human Rights, endorsed a proposal that would ask the city to grow its "do not buy" list—to include companies that activists say play a role in the state of Israel's occupation of Palestine."

As a teacher and  student of history and a publisher of 3 blogs defending Israel and her rights to exist, I am appalled!!  Their history of Israel and their knowledge is worse than a 1st grader. 

 Israel is a legitimate state and there NEVER WAS A STATE OF PALESTINE!  And these people are making blind votes pertaining to the existence of Israel!  Evidently we have several left wing anti-Israel groups in town today.  "Bob Horenstein of the Jewish Federation   says the true goal of groups such as Occupation-Free Portland", one of them, " is to undermine Israel. 
 "This has nothing to do with human rights," says Bob Horenstein of the Jewish Federation.. "It is yet another attempt by the boycott/divestment/sanction movement to de-legitimize the state of Israel and demonize the supporters of the state of Israel."  

So all the Jews assembled yesterday afternoon at 4pm were demons, to the Human Rights Commission, including a few rabbis.   Israel has been legitimate in 1922 to the League of Nations and in 1948 to the United Nations, and yet after 67 years it still has to defend itself.  

I was born and raised in Portland, and this is the first time such anti-Semitism has shown itself, to come down on Israel in such a way. 

The BDS Movement stands for Boycotting, Divesting and Sanctioning somebody you are tying to control and change.  It's an unsuccessful effort to isolate Israel and create new Boycotts against the only democratic state in the Middle East. 

The first reference I've noticed is to BDS G4S, a British security company that provides equipment and services to Israel's 5 prisons.  Political prisoners are held there.  The BDSers claim they are held without trial and are tortured.  By being the supplier of goods and service, the demonstrators against this company claim they are participating in Israel's use of torture and holding them in prisons.  More than 6,000 Palestinians are held this way to discourage them from resisting Israel's apartheid policies.

None of these claims are true, including the accusation that Israel is an apartheid state.  Quite the opposite is true.  1.7 million Arabs are citizens.  Arabs serve in the Knesset.  Everyone votes.  

  This is what happens in Israel:

1. Proper custody and internment resources - improvement in the living conditions with the goal of reaching international standards, through optimal utilization of resources and development of alternatives to imprisonment.

2. Corrections - maximum utilization of the period of imprisonment to efficiently treat the offenders in order to enable them to successfully reintegrate into society.

Security Prisoners

There are some 4,500 security prisoners and detainees incarcerated in the Israel Prison Service, about 50% of whom are considered prisoners “with blood on their hands.” These prisoners include men, women and minors.

Among the security prisoners one finds senior members of Palestinian terrorist organizations, terrorists who were on their way to a suicide mission and were apprehended by the defense forces; dispatchers; attack planners; those responsible for preparing the explosives, etc. As the primary incarceration authority, the Israel Prison Service is responsible for the incarceration of these prisoners, while accommodating their basic needs in accordance with the law.

 B'Tselem - The Israeli Information Center for Human Rights in the Occupied Territories, tells a more accurate report than the Portland council.  Their report is on Gaza of which holds Palestinian terrorists who have been shelling Southern Israel for years, through the past 2 Intifada at least since 2001.  Far from being tortured, the criminals; terrorists and all, are paid by the PA for being in prison.

According to the PA  more than 4,500 Palestinian prisoners (as of December 2012) serving time for terror-related offenses are recipients of PA salaries. This means that Palestinians convicted of crimes such as theft do not receive a salary, but Hamas and Fatah terrorist murderers do. 

 The Israeli Police noted that since 13 April 2008 the police is no longer responsible for any prison facilities(thereafter, the responsibility of the Prisons Service). The police no longer hold Palestinian detainees, other than for interrogation purposes." They are questioned.  That's it.  The police are not like those in Syria or any other Middle East country.

At the end of August 2015, 5,373 Palestinian security detainees and prisoners were held in Israeli prisons, 341 of them from the Gaza Strip.* An additional 977 Palestinians were held in Israel Prison Service facilities for being in Israel illegally, 13 of them from the Gaza Strip. The IPS considers these Palestinians – both detainees and prisoners – criminal offenders. A few dozen other Palestinians (we do not have precise figures) are held in IDF facilities for short periods of time. The following data were provided by the military and by the IPS."

" In January 2015, the PA Ministry of Finance announced that the PA budget includes ‎transfer of salaries to prisoners in Israeli jails who were from Gaza. [Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, ‎Jan. 6, 2015] This openly contradicts the PA claim that the PA no longer pays salaries ‎to prisoners.‎"  When they are released, the PA pays them anywhere from $10,000 to $50,000.  

Students who protested and were for BDS in London were made up of many Arabs, I noticed.  All the women pictured were wearing scarves.  Politics against Israel are showing.  

There have been a lot of terrorists trying to kill Jews, and many of these have been a slaughter, horrible murders against Israelis.  

Portland invests with the farming company of Caterpillar. That's one company out of 4 they are divesting from.   "The city isn't currently invested in Motorola, Hewlett-Packard or G4S. It is invested in Caterpillar, and does buy products from the companies, including fire equipment from Motorola paid for with money fromPortland's $72.4 million fire bond issue, which voters approved in 2010.  

"The Human Rights Commission didn't do their homework," says the federation's Horenstein. "The fact that they could consider a controversial issue like this without reaching out to the mainstream Jewish community is mystifying."  Evidently the meeting yesterday went pretty badly.  All the board wanted was reasons WHY they should not invest and they felt they didn't hear them.  It didn't make any difference, since it seems they already had made up their vote before the meeting had started. 

 The meeting was called for one building, and then changed a couple of hours before they were to start in another building about 8 blocks away.  It's amazing at least about 50 people made it there and wanted to have a chance to speak. 

 Human Rights?  Where are the rights of Israelis against a mob of uneducated and highly biased people  bent on doing BDS to fracture the  economy  of Israel  ?  

" The Jewish Federation of Greater Portland has accused the volunteer group of legitimizing a campaign that could foster anti-Semitism, and Mayor Charlie Hales has said he would block the effort to divest from the four companies."  I certainly hope he succeeds.  

I see from the article by the Human Rights Commission that the Sabeel Movement is mentioned.  This is a religious movement. "The  Sabeel Movement,  connected to the Presbyterians who is working hard to delegitimatize Israel and refuses to see that its goals amount to anti-Semitism.  Their creed and teachings have also reached the Methodists, I'm afraid.  They both are groups that believe in the replacement theory of Christianity in that Israel is no longer important and has been replaced by them.  This is the motivation behind their being against Israel so much.  Some peace movement they are.  They are nothing but a strictly anti-Semitic group.

Palestinian-Backed BDS Movement Abetted by American Universities

The 2 year old Israeli political party,  Yesh Atid, has decided to go against the BDS movement forming all over the world against Israel, Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions.  This is enacted against Israel in order to get them to comply to their wishes, as they see the situation between Israel and Palestinians through rosy eyeglasses.  "Boycotts of Israel are economic and political cultural campaigns or actions that seek a selective or total cutting of ties with the State of Israel, Israelis or Israeli corporations."
                                                                               

    
Chairman Yair Lapid, former journalist, formed this party for the secular middle class of Israel.  They are more concerned with socio, economic and governance problems than security, so were on the side of Herzog during this past election.  

Not as well visioned as Netanyahu, in my opinion,  he is rising up to fight something major, here, for this is almost as deadly as Hamas has been and who has started up again from Gaza.  Being a former journalist, he just may be able to present Israel's case in better light.

It was during his visit to New York when Lapid decided to fight BDS.  He realized that people who support BDS are the very ones who are backed by a different culture than the west, one who murders homosexuals, beats women and oppresses whole populations.  

• On 9 July 2005, 171 Palestinian non-governmental organizations put out a call for an international economic campaign against Israel which has come to be referred to as Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) after the resolution's call "... for Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions against Israel Until it Complies with International Law and Universal Principles of Human Rights.  The three stated goals of the campaign are:

1. An end to Israel's "occupation and colonization of all Arab lands and dismantling the Wall;"

2. Israeli recognition of the "fundamental rights of the Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel to full equality;" and,

3. Israeli respect, protection, and promotion of "the rights of Palestinian refugees to return to their homes and properties as stipulated in UN resolution 194

1. In reply to these slanted goals that do not reflect facts, Israel is not occupying anyone, not Gaza nor Judea and Samaria or East Jerusalem.  Gaza is ruled by Hamas from a Democratic election that shouldn't have taken place in retrospect.  Judea and Samaria (West Bank) have been run by the Palestinian Authority who has been at the head far longer than he should have-but that is up to the Palestinians.  East Jerusalem has been incorporated into all of Jerusalem as it is the Israeli capital.  Of course, the Arabs see all of Israel as "ARAB LAND."  

2. Arabs in Israel are full citizens and have been.  Some are even serving in the IDF.  

3. All Palestinians had the opportunity to stay in Israel when their brothers attacked Israel in 1948, and those that fled did not return.  Those that stayed became full citizens of Israel.  Anything different is up to discussion in peace talks.  Most went to Jordan and are Jordanians todaiy.  Some are still in refugee camps after 67 years, still being provided for by the UN.  . What Israel doesn't need are anymore Hamas types hanging around.  

I noted in today's news that Iran took out about 23 people from their prison for hanging without any trial.  G-d only knows why they were in prison in the first place.  Then to be jerked out and hung without a "Hello there"  is just unconstitutional in any descent society.  We're learning that this world is made up of  despicable people, led by IS, of course.  Iran not only supports BDS but is supporting their right to build a nuclear power plant as well, and we wonder why.  For years they have been against Israel and have not been mum about it, spewing out vile names about Israelis.

What ticked Lapid off was the decision of the UK National Union of Students (NUS) to join the BDS movement against Israel.  He saw another peg falling to pay homage to the BDS G-d.

He's calling on the British government to condemn this move which is stirring up more hatred and which undermines any hope for diplomatic progress.  The BDSers are trying to put Israel in a coffin and nail it shut.  He's putting this issue at the top of his list of priorities.

BDS has been going in the States for some time already.  "BDS is on American college campuses, especially on the West Coast    Public attention has been focused on successful boycott campaigns staged by anti-Israel groups at American academic associations such as the American Studies Association and the Asian American Studies Association.  Now the energy in the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement is returning to American college campuses.  Anti-Israel groups, such as Students for Justice in Palestine, are preparing to mount massive BDS campaigns on campuses across the country, such as the University of California at Los Angeles.

Once again, we can expect Jewish students to face a barrage of anti-Jewish stereotypes and defamations, anti-Israel smears, factual exaggerations, and outright falsehoods, together with just enough factually accurate criticism to disguise the entire charade as a legitimate political movement.  Until recently, campus-based BDS campaigns were all losers. "  Of all places, college campuses seem to be attacked the most to succumb to the lure of hating Israel.  Evidently classes in Middle East history are sorely lacking, or are only telling one version-and it isn't Israel's version of the problems they have faced in the Middle East with their neighbors.  Monkey see-monkey do, and these college students are as bad as my 1st graders were in copying someone in class.  They obviously are enamoured with the exotic Arab students who are brazenly beating the drums against Israel.  Colleges and universities have been ripe for the picking for these hateniks with their vile propaganda.  

I wonder what American Jews are finally waking up and have the backbone like Lapid to commit to fighting against BDS instead of going along with it?  We need to start first before we expect the rest of the world to realize they've been betting on the wrong horse in this race.  

Update:  12:44pm.  In John Hagee's 2007 book, "In Defense of Israel," on page 147 he explains that those replacement theologians teach to support  BDS which will economically  hurt the "Christ-rejecting" Jews so that they will accept Jesus Christ!"  Ultimately, we always get to the heart of matters;  religion.  What a despicable way to try to convert somebody, but then I've never really seen any nice way.

The Tribe of Dan and What Happened to the 10 Lost Tribes?

Samson, our strongest man,  was from the tribe of Dan.  He was one of the Israelite judges, son of Manoah. He was born before Saul of the tribe of Benjamin  became a king which was in the 11th century BCE.   He was a Nazirite from birth, meaning for one thing that he was not to cut his hair or drink any alcoholic beverage.  His hair was where he got his strength and courage and was capable of doing feats against the Philistines.  Delilah, his love, a woman of the Valley of Sorek (grapes ?) , deceived him and told the Philistines where his strength came from,  for a price.1100 pieces of silver.  She then cut his hair for them.  The Philistines held a festival in Gaza where they mocked him by having him, now a slave of theirs, to turn the prison mill for them.  He ended his life by destroying the building  and killing everyone there, including himself.
                                                                         

The movie, Samson and Delilah came out in 1949 with Victor Mature and Hedy Lamarr. This certainly immortalizes the pair.

The twelve tribes of Jacob were from 4 mothers, the sisters Leah and Rachel and their handmaids.    Dan was Jacob's 5th son and his mother was Bilhah, the handmaid of beautiful Rachel, Jacob's first love.  Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Zebulun were the sons of Leah, daughter of Laban.   Joseph and Benjamin were the sons of Rachel.   Dan and Naphtali were the sons of Bilhah,  and Gad and Asher were the sons of Zilpah, handmaiden of Leah. Gad had developed  a warlike reputation.   This made up Jacob's  12 sons. Dinah, daughter of Leah, was the only daughter.

Moses conferred the priestly office on the tribe of Levi. This meant that Levi would not receive any land as they were to be teachers and would travel to each tribe and live there while teaching.   To maintain the number of tribes receiving territory at 12, which was a sacred number,  he divided the tribe of Joseph into the tribes of Ephraim and Manasseh, Joseph's 2 sons.  Joseph was the son who had been kidnapped and taken away to Egypt where he rose in status to have a very high commission and be working just under the Pharaoh.  He had remained in Egypt.  The Levites must have been divided up between the Empires of Israel and Judah- the North and the South.

After the conquest of Canaan, Dan was allotted a portion south of Jaffa (today joined with Tel Aviv) , but was forced back into the hill country by the Amorites, and only a part of the tribe remained in the coastal region.  The greater part of Dan was forced to migrate northward where it eventually wrested from the Phoenicians a settlement area around Laish (Judg. 8:27-9)  On the map above it is shown as the farthest north in brown.  It is also mentioned in the MAR1 tablets( or Leshem (Jos. 19:47), the name of which became Dan.  The Danites had been expelled from their original inheritance by the Amorites so moved on to the sources of the Jordan River.  "The tribe of Dan  was one to be the avenger of his people.  Dan would be the snake that bites those that would come to harm his people."

Under Joshua's division of Canaan, Reuben, Gad, and half the tribe of Manasseh received territory in what was later called Transjordan, now just Jordan.  .  Naphtali and Asher were placed on the Sidonian frontier in the Galilee.  Issachar and Zebulun were settled in the Valley of Jezereel area.  Ephraim and the other half of Manasseh were to live in the mountains of Samaria with Benjamin to their south. and Judah even further south.  So Dan was to live basically along the seacoast around Jaffa and Simeon was placed in the Negev.

The rest of the tribe of Dan's   existence grew serious after the arrival of the Philistines.  Samson was a hero of the tribe.  The period of Saul and David helped.  The northern part of Dan was the site of a temple (Judg. 18:26-30) at which the descendants of Manasseh or Moses acted as priests.  This became one of the chief cult centers in the kingdom of Ephraim, and Jeroboam erected it it the image of a calf to deflect worshippers from the sanctuary at Jerusalem.

Some other tribes also didn't succeed in occupying the entire areas assigned to them.  Simeon seized further land in Seir and the territory of the Amalekites, a tribe of Caanan especially hateful of the Israelites who treated them horribly when they came through on the Exodus.  It is said that Haman in Persia much have been from the Amalekites, and possibly Hitler was, too.

Dan was captured by Ben Hadad of Syria during the rule of Baasha around 900 BCE .They would have been the closest tribe to Syria.

This tribal division of the land was maintained under the period of the Judges, but King Solomon (961-920 BCE)  changed the format of the division of land to suit his administration.

When King Solomon died, the land of Israel split into 2 halves with the southern half going to the tribe of Judah and Simeon, sons of Jacob and Leah,  and most of the tribe of Benjamin, son from Jacob and Rachel.  So Jews of today come from these 3 tribes.  

Then, in 732 BCE, the Assyrian king Tiglath-Pileser invaded and took away people of Israel in the north  as slaves.  While the state of Judah was crippled from the loss of warriors, in 721-715 BCE the King Sargon of Assyria also attacked and took away more people as slaves.  In all, 10 tribes had been exiled from the northern kingdom of Israel.  The kidnapped population had gone mostly to Assyria, of course, but also had been sold to Media and the lands neighboring  Aram-Naharaim.

Our 10 Lost Tribes to us were mourned.  This weakened the southern kingdom of Judah who were then attacked by Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon in 586 BCE   and many were exiled.

An Israeli communal settlement at the foot of Mt Hermon near the source of the River Dan was founded by pioneers of Romanian origin in 1939.  It withstood a heavy Syrian attack in the War of Independence in 1948.  Their population in 1990 was 554.  Nearby is a tel, the site of the biblical city of Dan (Laish) which has been excavated by Avraham Biran.

 Modern Israel has a Soreq Valley and even a Sorek Vineyard (since 1994/5) producing Merlot. Soreq, however, is the grapevine itself in Genesis 49:11, Isaiah 5:2, and Jeremiah 2:21. Samson had been dedicated as a Nazirite, "from the womb to the day of his death"; thus he was forbidden to touch wine or cut his hair.

Ezekiel's prophecies (Ezek. 37:16)  about these northern lost 10 tribes has much importance as it is associated with the final Redemption with the reunion of the whole House of Israel that is to happen in the FINAL DAYS.  There has been reports in many generations of their whereabouts;

1. Eldad Ha-Dani reported them apparently in the mountains of Africa.
2. Benjamin of Tudela heard of them in Central Asia.
3. David Reuveni claimed to be the brother of one of their rulers in some region in Arabia
4. Antonio de Montezinos stimulated Manasseh ben Israel's political activity in  England by his reports that he had found them in South America
5. Shabbetai Tzevi appointed rulers over the various tribes.
6. One story associates them with the Japanese
7.  Votaries of the Anglo-Israel theory place them in the Anglo-Saxon countries. After watching a travel show into Scotland and their food  customs, I would say they had no connection to any lost tribe.  They proudly proclaimed that hunting for their food was the best thing to do and ate bloody meat.  Jews don't.  Whatever traces showing of their connection are usually in the customs, so this doesn't comply.

Actually as a historic fact, some members of the Ten Lost Tribes remained in the land of Israel and Judah,  later after 135 CE to be called Palestine.  Apart from the Samaritans, which is another case, some of their descendants long preserved their identity among the Jewish population.  Others were assimilated, while still others were presumably absorbed by the last Judean exiles who in 597-586 were deported to areas adjacent to the place of exile of the Ten Lost Tribes which was Media, Assyria and Mesopotamia.
                                                                         

Bnei Menashe In North East India, in the land mass that lies between Myanmar (formerly Burma) and Bangladesh, there lives a small group of people returning to Judaism

Today Israel is receiving reports and taking in people claiming to be of the lost tribes of Israel, who were surprised to find that others thought them lost, as they knew where they were.  The problem was that the Jews didn't know where they were and could not bring them back.  India's tribe of Menashe, called Bnei Menashe, one of the sons of Joseph, has returned to Israel.  2,000 now live in Israel.  In 2013, 7,000 more were waiting to return. Bnei Menashe are also from Burma (Myanmar) Recently a return to Judaism began. Several thousand people of Menashe decided to observe the laws of the Torah and returned to Judaism. They have synagogues in Manipur, Assam, and Mizoram. There are also those who emigrated to Israel. Thousands long for returning to Israel.

" Several Christian organizations helped bring them home."In fact, the Hebrew prophets said when God gathered His Jewish people back from all the ends of the earth in the last days that there would be Gentiles helping and bringing them back," David Parsons, with the International Christian Embassy Jerusalem, told CBN News."

"India is also home to the Bené Israel, a group whose Jewish bona fides are not in question. India is also home to the Bene Israel, a group whose Jewish DNA is not in question. In fact, markers in DNA samples from the Bene Israel are consistent with descendants of a small group of hereditary Israelite priests or Cohanim—those descended from Moses’ brother Aaron. They now number less than eight thousand (most of them emigrated to Israel in the 1950s), but once, more than thirty thousand Jewish People lived in and around Mumbai (formerly Bombay). "That would be the dna Cohen gene of J1.  "Some associate them with either the tribe of Zebulon or Asher because of their tradition of working as oil pressers and merchants. Others think they are Jews who fled persecution from various Arab governments.

  It is thought that the Pashtuns of Pakistan and Afghanistan could contain some of the lost tribes as they have a history of descending from Benjamin and Joseph. Some Maasais of Africa claim to be of the lost tribe.  A few have returned.  A group from Burma has as well.

The Lemba tribe of Israel has been found to carry the Cohen gene.  They even believe they have the ark of the covenant.

"Ethiopians have finally convinced Israel's rabbis that they have Jewish roots.  65,000 have moved to Israel, starting in 1974.  They say they are either from the tribe of Dan, or are descendants of King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba of Ethiopia, who had come for a visit to Jerusalem.  DNA did not turn up any evidence of a Jewish connection, but they have been practicing Judaism up to a point in our ancient history. " They should have a few of Solomon's  genes."  Today those in Israel are having a hard time adjusting, especially with rioting Blacks in the USA on TV bringing out their similar problems of education and position.    

 Anthropologist Shalva Weil of Jerusalem has documented differing tribes and peoples claiming affiliation to the Lost Tribes throughout the world.  Dr. Shalva Weil is a Senior Researcher at The Research Institute for Innovation and Education at the Hebrew University. She focuses on Indian Jewry, Ethiopian Jewry, and the Ten Lost Tribes and specializes in qualitative methods, violence, gender, ethnicity, education, religion, and migration.  "Shalva Weil has published widely on the Bene Israel, Cochin Jews, Baghdadi Jews, and the Shinlung (“Bnei Menasseh”)."" Weil has published extensively on the Ten Lost Tribes and in particular, the Beta Israel, the Bene Israel, and the Pathans/Pashtuns, as well as on Judaising groups all over Africa, China and elsewhere. In 1991, she curated an exhibition at Beth Hatefutsoth: the Museum of the Jewish Diaspora on the Ten Lost Tribes entitled "Beyond the Sambatyon: the Myth of the Ten Lost Tribes".^[17] She is on the international board of ISSAJ [International Society for the Study of African Jewry]"
