Getting Real About Iran and the Bomb

Nadene Goldfoot
Benny Morris, professor of history in the Department of Middle East Studies at Ben-Gurion University in Israel and past  critic of Israel has come out with a statement about Iran and their nuclear production of a bomb or bombs.

He feels that Israel is being logical and clear in their reasoning in that they may have to strike Iran alone..  Iran  is a threat to Israel's existence.  Weapons of a lesser sort can fall into the hands of terrorists.  This could cause a nuclear war in the end.

For the past 30 years no one has succeeded in stopping Iran from producing such weapons or changing their goal of leading the Islamists against the West, and especially of hating Israel.

Even if Israel or Israel and the USA can delay Iran  in manufacturing atomic weapons for 1 or 2 years, Iran might reconsider their options.  Frankly, I feel that this might not be the case.  It might make Iran even more crazy in wanting to destroy everyone.  I don't think they are rational thinkers, as I see they aren't  rational in the first place because they  spew out  such hatred.  I hope I'm wrong.  But it did stop Iraq.

If Israel attacks alone, all the surrounding enemies certainly will see that Israel means business.    Like Mohammed Ali, the boxer said about himself, Israel "can either float like a butterfly or sting like a bee."  Israel can fight back.

Jay Carney at the White House in Washington DC said that the USA would know if Tehran is close to getting nuclear weapons.  Jerusalem feels that since they didn't see 9/11 coming, why will they know this?  Udi Segal of Channel 2 in Israel said they don't think that the USA will take any military action and haven't told Israel of any attack plan nor have they promised to attack if all else fails.  Leon Panetta hasn't calmed Israeli concerns.  I say that alluding to action is not enough.  Israel is on the front line of being attacked and the USA should be in direct contact with Israel in planning this possibility.  Evidently they aren't.

Obama has gone to the UN and the Arab League for approval before he has acted and the UN is not a friend to Israel.  Israel feels they are alone in their fear.  After all, they are named by this aggressor.  The Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, no doubt the religious push behind the Iranian goal of wiping out Israel, may be acting calmly but wants to achieve this horrendous fanatical goal.  Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, their President, makes a good shill.  Israel is not fooled.

Last Sunday there was a terror attack that was thwarted by Israel on the border with Gaza-Egypt and Israel.  Israel must provide safety for its citizens and is doing this job.  No one else ever helps out.  They may have to go it alone in dealing with Iran as well, but Netanyahu was really hoping that the USA would join them in this.

When even Benny Morris says that Israel is being logical and that in order to defend herself may have to stop  Iran's nuclear production of weapons, I know it's for real.  He's like the Greek Oracle that is the final word, as I see it.

Update: 8/14/12  The USA is not taking Israel seriously as to whether or not they will bomb Iran.  They don't think it would do much anyway except delay Iran.  "U.S. officials have stressed that Washington could deal a decisive blow to Iran's nuclear sites, if necessary, and will not allow Tehran to obtain a nuclear weapon. It's unclear whether those assurances will be enough to forestall Israeli action."  Panetta of the USA says action is a last resort and thinks sanctions and pressure will work.

Ahmadinejad Did It Again

Nadene Goldfoot
Ahmadinejad, that old Holocaust denier, who  has threatened to obliterate Israel and likes to call it a "cancerous tumor", tried to show how unruffled he is of the possibility that Israel might try to wipe out his little nuclear program. Both he and the Ayatollah Ali Khamenei have been getting into the act.  Khamenei is angry with the US's words about Iran, mainly with Obama's saying that "all options are on the table."  Khamenei  bluffed with saying that the war will be worse for the USA than Iran.

Now Ahmadinejad is saying that Israel is nothing more than a mosquito.  Iran's leaders tell each other these things and then they believe it's true.  He says he doesn't need war to get Israel destroyed anyway.  He's counting on boycotts to destroy them, which is something the West is doing in moderation to Iran to get them to be open about what they are doing.

Amadinejad, after taking office in 2005, said that with G-d, they shall soon see a world without the USA and Zionism.  How nice of him.  Only Israel has taken him quite seriously.  The USA seems to be quite unruffled by his comments.  The only problem is that his comments are followed up by actions that do not look peaceful, like getting to the point of having the capacity to make atomic warfare.

The more nothing is really done by the big powers to prevent a state with a bad resume filled with warlike intentions, the more Israel feels that Iran's intentions could come to fruition.  So far there are a lot of meetings throughout the world.  That might be enjoyable for those attending, but it gives a lot more time for Iran to finish their deadly project.  So far they've met in Istanbul, Turkey which was "constructive and useful." according to Catherine Ashton, chief of EU foreign policy..  Iran will stall with more talks with the USA, Russia, China, Germany, France and Britain, the big P5+1.  They get to meet again in Baghdad on May 23rd.  Before that meeting, they will hold just "discussions" in Vienna, Austria.  They do get around.  I suppose they can take all this traveling off of their income taxes as well.  They don't seem to be in a hurry and meet the time limit of the "window of opportunity."

Amadinejad refuses to admit there was a Holocaust that slaughtered 6 million Jews and Israel has no intention to allow that to ever happen again.  When a country's political dealings consists of outright hatefulness like Ahadinejad has for Israel,  you have to beware. The heads of this country are radical fanatics.  We know what the world is capable of.doing.

Getting Tough With Iran; Is Time Running Out?

Nadene Goldfoot
Obama has given a message to Iran that upcoming talks with them are their last opportunity for a peaceful solution to their atomic developments.  The question is, is there any teeth to this statement?  The last thing that Obama wants is for Israel to attack Iran's atomic building sites; at least not until after November's presidential election.

In order to bring this about, our goverment is alluding to some sort of prior knowledge that we would have before any decision on Iran's part would be to build a nuclear bomb.  The White House officials are insinuating that it will take Iran at least another year to build a nuclear weapon if it were to start on some sort of crash program right now.

The problem in swallowing all this is that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA ) chief Yukiya Amano warned a whole month ago that Iran had tripled its production of higher-enriched uranium since November and was denying the IAEA access to Parchin.  This is the site that they had done tests that were strong indicators of developing a bomb. Besides this, there is some missing uranium metal that is large enough to be used for experiments in arming a nuclear missile.  It is unaccounted for.   If the IAEA is alarmed, why isn't our government uneasy?

The nations could demand the immediate closing and ultimate dismantling of the deep-underground Fordo enrichment facility.  This is a place that is very worrisome for Israel.  They could call for a halt in the production of uranium fuel that is just a few steps away from bomb grade.  Iran has been shipping existing stockpiles of that fuel out of the country.  They may have already worked on warhead designs and nuclear triggers.  The question remains as to where it is going.  They are simply hoping that sanctions and the threat of Israeli military action will cause the Iranians to come to a negotiated settlement.

The Russians and the Chinese are on the opposite side of the rest of the countries that are worrying about Iran's atomic capabilities.  They are trying to water down the sanctions.  Unlike the rest of the world, Obama is not in a hurry.  Though the negotiations may turn out to be unproductive, our government will want to keep them going anyway until November is past.   That gives Iran at least 7 more months of uninterrupted work.
Of course it fits Iran's strategy as this could buy time while their machinery keeps on going.

Tehran says adamently that it will not close Fordo or give up higher uranium enrichment.  They are saying that these demands are irrational, as if their goal in keeping these objectives are sane.  Israel is watching Iran get closer and closer to creating nukes while others continue with peace talks.

With a response like Tehran just gave, sanctions should be tightened.  If nothing is done to deter Iran, Israel will be free to act as they see fit.  Their goal is to keep their people alive and their country free from harm.  It's no more than we expect from our own country.  Iran has used the past 4 years stalling the world while it has been progressing in their goal to attain atomic energy, even though they laughingly admit only to needing energy and research.   This has been Israel's major headache.

The Mayans' calendar runs out on December 21st and many wonder what changes we will see in the heavens, as this culminates because of a lineup of heavenly planets and such.  I'm wondering what can happen before  Tuesday after the first Monday in November, November 6th, election day in the USA.  This is the Hebrew date of Chesvan 21.

Israel has warned that they would have only one  window of opportunity in which they could try to destroy Iran's building sites of atomic weaponry.  Which will come first;  sanctions with teeth or Israel's bite?  They really don't want to go it alone.  Yet atomic power in the hands of madmen is a horrible thought.  There is nothing sane about what Iran has been threatening Israel with.  Will the world remain free from Iran's power by December 21?  By New Years?

Israel Facing Atomic Warfare

Israel Facing Atomic Warfare

By Nadene Goldfoot

Jeffrey Goldberg, in his article, "Israel is getting ready to bomb Iran" featured in The Atlantic magazine for September 2010, gives excellent reasons why it is almost imperative that she should do so. He feels there is a 50% chance it will happen by July of 2011. He mentions that Obama’s dream is of ending nuclear proliferation at a time when the prospect of a nuclearized Iran is happening. He asks who will stop Iran before it goes nuclear and how. Jeff covers the subject from page 56 to 69. He ends with the thought that Netanyahu would be putting Israel’s relationship with America in jeopardy if he does and would only do that if he thought that Iran is a threat to Israel like the Shoah.

Agreeing with him in his book, "The Case Against Israel’s Enemies: Exposing Jimmy Carter and others who stand in the way of peace’, Alan Dershowitz made the same point in 2008 when Bush was president. On page 222 he writes that Iranian leaders expect to be attacked from Israel when they get close to producing a nuclear weapon as they have already threatened to respond with nuclear weapons. On June 28, 2008, Iran’s Parliament speaker warned the West could lose face if it provokes Iran. Intelligence agencies believe that Iran could convert its dual-track nuclear developments into deliverable weapons.

In May of 2008, the International Atomic Energy Agency issued a warning about Iran's nuclear weapons ambitions. It was a matter of serious concern. Though Iran denies everything, a senior official said that "the Iranians lied, obfuscated and didn’t tell us for 20 years what they were doing."

Dershowitz comments that Iran may be provoking Israel on purpose to bring about an attack. They won’t mind losing 15 million Muslims if they can kill off 5 million Jews. To them it’s worth it. They want to make Iran the victim of" Zionist aggression" as it would unify them all against their enemies which would include the USA.

The sad thing is that not all of Iran is as looney as Ahmadinejad. His group has taken control of their govermental processes and is keeping out people who are saner. I’d hate to see them in the line of fire, but that is one thing that has been happening in Gaza with the Palestinians and Iran is also doing it. They put civilians in the line of fire on purpose and then have something to cry about afterwards. The atomic plants in Iran are built in populated areas; something Israel and other democracies with atomic power do not do.

All this worry about Israel bombing Iran’s sites may be moot. Right now a computer virus has been created that may put an end to Iran’s ambition of killing all the people in Israel. Everything today is computerized. Even shooting a missile with an atomic bomb warhead is computerized. How much more easy it is to foul up the system this way than to have to take a fleet of planes and try to bomb their sites which are in many buildings, probably deep underground and in populated centers. Now just who would be interested in creating such a bug. Who has the capabilities for doing this?
