Netanyahu's Fantastic Offer to Arabs Will Be Squashed and Why

The New York Times reporters, Mark Landler and Jodi Rudoren reported on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's speech to the American Israel Public Affairs committee.( AIPAC) yesterday.

Netanyahu  gave a pitch for peace with the Palestinians by saying that it would enable Israel to tighten ties with its Arab neighbors and "catapult the region forward" on issues like health, energy and education.  "We could better the lives of hundred of millions,"  he said.  "We all have so much to gain from peace."

We know that Netanyahu and Israel want peace with their neighbors.  They've wanted it before Israel became a state in 1948.  They worked and planned to create Israel but at the same time to have peace with their neighbors.

 He said that after his big meeting with Obama, where they discussed some very tough issues for Israel in this peace process.  Evidently he's trying to convince the Arabs what they would gain instead of the perpetual war, blood and guts and their stand to never ever accept Israel as a Jewish state. However, the Palestinian Arabs  follow the Muslim Brotherhood Creed on this which is to never have peace with Israel.
                                                                             

Netanyahu is also locking horns with Obama,  Kerry and the Arabs over Jews living in Judea and Samaria, which is land originally set aside as being part of the Jewish Homeland by the League of Nations in the 1920's.  The big world powers call them "Jewish settlements," and probably call Tel Aviv a settlement as well.  1967  was when Israel won back Judea and Samaria and east Jerusalem after being attacked by all the surrounding Arabs and then some more beyond the perimeter.  It has been 47 years, and Jews that moved there are still being hit with the "settlement" word.  They settled  long ago already in 1968, after the war was won with the latest established in 1984 except for one which was established in 1998-16 years ago.  In all, there are 321,179 Jews living in Judea-Samaria. Israel had stopped building for one whole year and the Palestinians didn't come around.  It was a waste of time.
                                                                             

  Netanyahu praised Kerry as the man who never sleeps.  Kerry had warned Israel that they could be ostracized if they failed to make peace with the Palestinians but as far as we know has said absolutely nothing like that to the Arabs.  Kerry didn't make himself popular with that comment with Israel.  Besides that issue, he has shown that he sides with the Palestinians by making all sorts of incredible demands on Israel and nothing for the Arabs.

Obama wants the Palestinians and Israelis to sign a framework accord which Kerry is drafting and expects it to be signed by the end of April.  This is  evidently written out in general terms only about Israel's security and the borders of a future Palestinian state which is already a done deal in the UN as far as accepting a Palestine as an observer state.  It is to allow the 8 month old negotiations that have been going on with Kerry to be extended.  An unofficial statement from an official said that the agreement would have enough in it that was good for Israel.  That is the official's opinion, not Netanyahu's.  Like we say, "Is it good for the Jews"?  The answer for the past 8 months has been, "NO."  

Obama is now taking over in the talks from Kerry.  He's meeting on March 17th, St. Patrick's Day, with Abbas to urge him to sign.

Netanyahu told Obama that they were pressing up against very tough issues for Israel.

Netanyahu also brought up the growing boycott movement that hits on Israel.  He said that "this links it to the darkest chapters of anti-Semitism in history. "   The Arabs and their siders took his comment as showing how well the boycott is working.  He's just disgusted by being singled out when so many other nations are doing so many destructive things in this world, such as Assad in Syria or the Ayatollah in Iran and the nuclear bombs they are creating.  Being singled out for something others find an excuse to fault Israel for is anti-Semitism, pure and simple.

 We've had over 2,000 years of it and can spot it easily.  Israel has every legal right in the world to allow people to move into Judea and Samaria, but being Jews-are being given a bad time about it.  Legal, shmegal, the powers to be don't give a hoot evidently about legalities.  Jews, who believe in Judaism which has been faulted by other religions as being too full of laws that people don't need to follow, has international law on their side about living on the land, and THAT is now the worst evil of the century.  How about that for logic today?    So the Arabs are using boycotting as another form of their rockets, mortars and missiles that Hamas uses almost every day against the civilians of southern Israel, a teeny land of only 8,000 sq. miles.  Hit southern Israel and the wind from it hits the rest of Israel. So does the pain and anguish making its citizens more determined than ever not to be driven out of their country.  .

Sorry, Syrians.  Abbas can kill as many of his 22,505,000 Syrian citizens as he wants.  ISRAEL is continuing to live and love and worship G-d in their own land and that's what's arousing the world to pounce on Israel instead of Assad.  What's good and what's bad today has taken a new direction.  What Netanyahu has  pitched to the Arabs is too logical.  That's not what their Palestinian charters  of the PA or Hamas or the Muslim Brotherhood stand for.  It's not what they want at all!  When someone convinces them to change their goals, then you can talk about peace.  The war ain't over till the fat lady sings and the fat lady ain't sung yet.

Settlements A Poor Excuse for Not Talking Peace

This will be the 5th night of Passover.  Something we learned back in about 1310 BCE from Moses was not to cheer when our enemies are being killed as they are the children of G-d as well as we are.  This happened when the Pharaoh's soldiers were trapped in the sea that was engulfing them in their chase after the Israelites.   That was almost 4,000 years ago.  So ever since then we haven't cheered at the news of the deaths of our enemies.

Our Palestinian cousins are not so inclined to think this way.  The most appreciated parent in Gaza is Mariam Farhat  whose 3 sons died trying to kill Israelis.  One was in a suicide attacker who shot up and hurled grenades in a classroom of Jewish students.  "She basked in her son's attempts wishing that she had 100 boys like this one to sacrifice for the sake of Allah".  News got out of her feelings so  she is venerated as "Mother of the Struggle".  She was even elected to parliament for this.  Now the community is mourning her as she has passed away.

So when Obama mentioned that he thought any Israeli parent would want Palestinian children to succeed in life and went to Israeli students encouraging peace, did he do the same with the Palestinians?  Going to the Israelis is a given as far as them wanting peace. They do not need any appeal.  They're the ones who have either already been in the IDF or soon will be. Peace is part of Jewish teaching.    Israelis have wanted peace before they even became a state.  The original plans of our Jewish leaders were for peace for both the Jews and the Arabs.  Theodor Herzl, (1860-1904) founder of Zionism, the reporter from Paris who saw that Jews needed their state, wrote about what he wanted in a Utopian state in his Der Judenstaat (The Jewish State) in 1896 which included the Arabs, but it was still a Jewish state.

The Palestinians have been refusing peace ever since it was offered to them when the Jews got their offer in 1947   The offer has continued to be made over and over.  Today the Palestinians are using the excuse of the settlements.  At the same time they have announced that their Palestine will be Judenrein.  There are to be no Jews living in their land even though there are 1.4 million Arabs that are citizens of Israel.   They have a different attitude about people.

Obama told Abbas to quit using the settlements as an excuse for sitting down to talk peace.  Everyone knows they can easily demolish any settlement on their land.  What's the big deal?  "Palestinian sovereignty and Israeli security are the "core issue," he told Abbas.  Obama has been very sympathetic to the Palestinian cause of creating a "much needed"  49th Muslim majority state and has been quite lukewarm towards the people in the world's only Jewish state, so this was quite a breakthrough from him.  Obama himself had imposed this precondition 4 years ago of a settlement freeze.  Israel did for 10 months but Abbas wasn't moved.  He just walked out of the talks and hasn't been back, even when Netanyahu begged him to from the UN meeting.

It's going to be very interesting to see what will  transpire.  Abbas of "West Bank" is straining to keep a hold on his section of land against Hamas's stronghold in Gaza.  They have a constant power-struggle.  How can there ever be one Palestine when the people involved are divided?  No one has addressed this issue.  Gaza has already broken the truce with 2 rockets out of 5 shot into southern Israel for some imagined  retribution.

Israel has said that they must be recognized and accepted as the Jewish state.  This means pretty much that Hamas and Fatah will have to change their charter which says to wipe out Israel.  There can't be any form of peace when one side is determined to kill off the other.  Thinking otherwise is just insanity.  As it is, the population of Gaza and West Bank are teaching their children to hate Israelis right in their own schools.  They are not preparing their people for peace in any way, shape or form.

January 25th Peace Meeting of Israel/Palestine May Be Last

The "Palestinians", so called Arabs whose ancestors were originally in Palestine along with the Jews before 1948 and up to then, want all of Israel and the death of Jews, but are going through the motions of coming to a few peace talks with Israel as ordered by the United Nations. 

A senior Palestinian official has been quoted as saying that there is to be only one more meeting on January 25th.  Then either they will schedule meetings involving negotiations or decide it has been a failure.

 Saturday was the day of a meeting between Saeb Muhammad Salih Erekat, former chief Jordanian- born Palestinian negotiator at Oslo Accords from 1995 to 2003 who resigned in protest from the PA but was later reinstated and now a member of the Israel-Fatah peace accords and  Yitzhak Molcho, Israeli lawyer and chief negotiator for Israel of which representatives from Jordan and the Quartet (US, EU, UN and Russia) did not attend.  What were they doing meeting on Shabbat?  Maybe they were just talking.  Hopefully they were alone. 

The fact is that PA President Mahmoud Abbas is in the process of getting international help in putting pressure on Israel to freeze construction in the "settlements" (towns and cities) in Judea and Samaria and east Jerusalem.  This building and the towns and cities are at the core of the Palestinian offensive stated a Palestinian official.  They think they undermine the foundations of the two-state solution. 

After reading Alan Dershowitz's 2005 "The Case For Peace; how the Arab-Israeli conflict can be resolved", I agree that this is a better plan than a one state solution where Israel would be swallowed up, but he presented his ideas before the present day situation of the Muslim Brotherhood's presence ,deadly threats and constant bombardment into this year of 2012, seven years after his book was published.  It isn't that the settlements are the end-all to the problem.  They are the result of the problem of the Muslims never making peace in the first place.  The more they fight and bomb, all the more reason why Israel shouldn't continue with working on these landmarks. (I have a friend who said that everytime the Gazans bomb Israel, Israel should take another foot of land in Judea and Samaria.)  Well, they haven't done that, but they are trying to keep up appearances in the towns that they have.   The Palestinians want "settlements" to be settled on their side without any negotiations with Israel.  They've been attacking Israelis since the birth of Israel in 1948 when there were no settlements to argue about. 

Rumor is that the USA and some EU people were putting heavy pressure on Abbas to keep talking.  The PA is arguing about the deadline not being in March, which is a date used by the Quartet.  They're also saying that it's the Israelis who are not serious about going forward with peace talks and are using the coming general elections in Israel as a reason for stalling.  I ask how Israel can move forward when the PA won't until Israel is forced to end control in the towns and cities in Judea and Samaria?  They want the cart to pull the horse!  To put it plainly, why should Israel give up towns and cities they developed on land they received after being attacked by many countries in which they came out the winner?  Since when do winners lay down their arms and become losers?  Attack Israel and you lose!  Live in peace with Israel and you will be a winner.  Plain and simple.  That's what I would tell them. 

Dershowitz's plan started with Israel withdrawing from all of the Gaza Strip which they did.  It turned into a shooting ground making it easier to hit southern Israel, and this had been a withdrawal made in good faith as a step to peace. 

Then Israel, seeing that the withdrawal from Gaza was successful (Ha ha) would "withdraw from nearly all of the "West Bank" a name I hate given by Jordan for Judea and Samaria, with territorial adjustments consistant with Security Council Resolution 242 and the existing realities on the ground."  The realities on the ground are worse, far worse than they were in 2005.  I'm wondering what this would get for Israel after the fiasco with Gaza.  And there we are.  Stuck. 

However, others don't see it as I do.  Jordan's King Adullah is behind the times and still is touting that Israel is practicing apartheid and he has the chutzpah to ask about democracy-he-a king!  Some democracy that is! 

Then Britain's Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg told Israel that the settlements are deliberate vandalism.  I have no idea how he comes up with such adjectives that are completely off the subject.  Does he know where he is right now?  Somebody should buy that man a history book.  This is the atmosphere that Israel is in where they are trying to make some sense out of facts.  It's like being in Chelm, plus, it's one against the many all over again.   I wonder if he knows about the British White Paper where Britain's original plan for the Jewish Home was to be the land of Judea and Samaria as well before they realized that they had also promised it to the Arabs  and messed up the whole deal in the first place?  It was another case of "Whoops, we need oil more than we need Jews!"  Britain was spread so far all over the earth that they couldn't keep their deals straight with people. 

Update: 1/25/12: The PLO refuses to continue with the talks after today's 5th meeting.
