Why Distrust and Contention Between Palestinians and Israel

Nadene Goldfoot

Having served 6 years already for stabbing  killing an Israeli chocolate manufacturer, Sasson Nuiel.  Saeed is leading a good life in an Israeli prison.

Hamas refuses to change their charter which is the same as Muslim Brotherhood-to destroy Israel and kill Jews.  Both Fatah and Hamas refuse to recognize Israel as a Jewish state.  They've refused offers of their own statehood for the past 66 years and just now declared it without any peace accord with Israel.  It's taken them only one week to commit acts of destroying Israel with continued rocket attacks from Gaza and now a kidnapping of 3 Jewish teenagers.

Israel's prisons hold about 5,000 Palestinian terrorists.  Hundreds are serving life sentences for murder.  The Palestine authority run by Abbas sees them as heroes for fighting against Israel.  The murderers get extra attention and honor.

The PA sees kidnapping as a legitimate act that will bring about the release of these terrorists.  What Israel's neighbors would do to people who would terrorize them would be to kill them.  Instead, Israel puts such people in prison.

In fact, the PA encourage Hamas to kidnap Israeli soldiers and hold them hostage for the reason of using them to exchange prisoners for release.  This was stated by the Deputy-Secretary of Fatah's Central Committee, Jibril Rajoub, a senior PA official on January 2, 2014.

                                                       Hamas Terrorists

PMW, Palestinian Media Watch keeps an eye on such goings on.  On October 24, 2011 Abbas said on  the official PA TV that Hamas kidnapped a soldier, Galad Shalit, and managed to keep him for five years, and that's a good thing.  The a week later on October 30, 2011, his representative, Rajoub said that "We salute those who dug the tunnel to kidnap Gilad Shalit;  we salute those who captured the captive, Gilad Shalit, and salute those who guarded the captive until this deal was completed.

Abbas said  on October 6, 2009 on their official TV program that "We have 11,000 prisoners.  We will definitely, always and forever, act to free them using all means."  Notice that they never tell them not to attack Israel to keep them out of prisons, but they instigate and encourage them, then promise to get them out.
                                                                Fatah emblam
This year on January 2, 2014, Rajoub said that "if Hamas wants to kidnap soldiers...we encourage them.  When they kidnapped Shalit we congratulated them.

                                                                  Fatah Terrorists

Just this April 16, 2014 on their Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Ismail Haniyeh of Hamas promised that "The kidnapping of Israeli soldiers.....will continue.

Since they became a recognized Palestine a week ago, Hamas has been busy talking up recruits from Fatah to join them in attacking Israel.  They now are connected and can reach Judea-Samaria because of this recognition.

A week ago the USA recognized Palestine, followed by the EU which goes against Israel's expectations of a peace accord first.  This terror state could only wait one week before they are actively committing this act, even though they had promised Kerry and Obama to distance itself from terror.  This is an act of terror.  To rub salt in Israel's wound, they continue to glorify terrorism and promote kidnapping Israelis as hostages.

Their comments have been, when hearing of a kidnapping, "That's a good thing.  We don't deny it.  On the contrary, it's good because in that small strip of 40 X 7 km (Gaza) , they managed to guard Gilad Shalit and hid him- that's a good thing.  This was heard on October 24, 2011's TV program.

Two years earlier Israel had released 20 female terrorists in exchange for information about Gilad.  The Palestinians took this as hope to use this method to free 11,000 more and this is but one of many means they are ready to use.
Palestine Authority, Fatah's origins- from Arafat of PLO terrorists

Why are there so many Palestinian prisoners in Israel's prisons?  "It is a fact that over 1,000 Israeli civilians have died as a result of suicide bombings and other terrorist attacks since the beginning of the conflict (most of them during the Second Intifada between 2000-2005*), but violence and terrorism is far from the whole story.  Since 2001 southern Israel has been peppered by rockets, missiles and mortars from Hamas' terrorists.  This is true terrorism.

First Israel suffered from suicide bombers in the 90's.  Palestinian militants first employed suicide bombing as a terrorist tactic then.  Some are in prison for throwing rocks at Israelis.  In September 2000, the 2nd Intifada started and went on till February 8, 2005.  The bombing is southern Israel has never stopped but continues today.

The Arabs are anti-Semitic and keep on attacking Jews.  "

Columnist Richard Cohen wrote that "The Arab world is the last bastion of unbridled, unashamed, unhidden and unbelievable anti-Semitism.  Hitlerian myths get published in the popular press as incontrovertible truths.  The Holocaust either gets minimized or denied, as Iran does.  ....How the Arab world will ever come to terms with Israel when Israelis are portrayed as the devil incarnate is hard to figure out.

I have news for Richard Cohen.  anti-Semitism has mushroomed again all over the world.  He's right in blaming the Arabs, for they have fed the propaganda and lead the charge, though.  Of course, not every Arab feels this way.  We do have supporters from them as well, but when those against us have given false testimony against us such as anti-Semites of yesterday, again they are being listened to as seriously as those reading their bibles believe in that.

What is it like in an Israeli prison?  Israel's prisons are closely watched by the whole world.  One reason is that the government has allowed representatives of the Red Cross and other groups to come regularly to inspect them.  Does Iran allow this?  A relative of mine was imprisoned there on her vacation for buying some little chatchka from a pesky salesman.  She was in there for years, and had to cook her own food.  Prison is not a hotel, and shouldn't be a pleasant place for anyone, but these prisoners are being paid by Hamas for their acts, which causes more to become terrorists.

Israel is not allowed to arbitrarily arrest its citizens.  Defendants are innocent until proven guilty, just like the USA.  They have the right to writs of habeas corpus and other safeguards.  Israel doesn't jail political prisoners like Russia has.  Israel keeps an independent judiciary.

Israel was born in May 1948.  Years ago, some Arab prisoners who were suspected of participating in acts of terrorism were interrogated that one could call severe methods.  They were criticized as using excessive methods and their Supreme Court issued a landmark ruling in 1999 that prohibited the use of many of the practices that they considered abusive.  The USA went through the same steps.  We've all heard about how USA police used to use the rubber hose.

Israel never has had the death penalty.  Only once, when Adolf Eichmann was condemned, has it been used.  He was the man  most responsible besides Hitler for the "Final Solution" to kill all Jews in the world.  No matter what the Arabs have done, and some cases are too ghastly for me to even write about, have they decided on the death penalty.

Prisoners get to mingle with each other, throw parties and study for advanced degrees.  they can stay in touch with their fans on Facebook using their 3G mobile smartphones.  Life is more like a vacation.  They just don't get to have bagels and lox, that's about all.  They even get a salary from the PA, even Hamas terrorists.  The money comes from American and EU taxpayers.  10% of the PA budget pays salaries of prisoners and benefits to their families and families of terrorists who weren't lucky enough to end up in prison but who tried to shoot it out.  So they eat very well.  The Jews they murdered have families who don't eat as well.  This is how  $100 million dollars is spent on benefits for terrorists.  How could any government fall for their words that they oppose terrorism when they are subsidizing the terrorists which the instigator and they go on aiding and abetting terrorists ?

Knowing all this, Kerry and Obama's government tried to force the issue and demanded that Israel bend to their wishes to accept a Palestinian government.  Oh sure, Israel must be the only little state in the world who would just love to have the killers of their families be allowed to profess their statesmanship, a position that gives them extra rights in the world---to accomplish their goal of doing in Israel.  No way does it spell out a psychological change of their hearts.  If anything, this has given them fuel to steam ahead with their goal---with the slipshod promise to Israel that they will keep their eye on the Palestinians.  It's only gone from bad bad bad to worse and worst.

Now Israel has to watch the west which is Gaza and the east which is  Judea-Samaria, both only a few blocks away from their own homes. All the while Israelis have to watch what's happening in the north where thousands of missiles lie pointing at them from Syria and Lebanon.  Somebody must think that I'm ready to buy the Brooklyn Bridge.   We know the whole world watches once in a while, but nobody cares anything about Israel's enemies who are out to destroy them.  That's because they are under a subtle attack themselves and are morphing into the same thing.

Human rights groups are just as much at fault of the situation.  They condemn Israel every moment with unfounded accusations which has caused Israel to bend over backwards to show how well it treats Muslim terrorists.  IDF is under the same rules of engagement as the USA which are causing serious US casualties in Afghanistan.  Those in charge of Israeli prisons are allowing the terrorists to post propaganda on Facebook from the prisons!  In their defense, it could come from not being able to read Arabic, for I'm sure it's not in English.

Human rights groups even are as one-sided that they describe Gaza as a prison.  They have free electricity and free water supplied by Israel because they have not paid their bills.  While Israel is carefully measuring out their water use, Gaza has opened up a water park.   Tell CNN and BBC that they are full of prunes in their reports about how awful Israel is.  Their prejudice is showing.  The newspapers are just as bad so they get money from them.

1700 Iraqis have just been murdered by ISIS who are about 30 miles from Damascus now.  Yes, the world is in good shape and it's all Israel's doing according to many.  No wonder Israel finds it difficult to trust a terrorist state that has just been accepted by the US and EU.  Thanks buds.

The First Arab Springers: Palestinians and What Horror They Brought

Nadene Goldfoot
"The Arab Spring is an attempt to return the region to its roots. It’s not to Westernize the Middle East and make it more democratic; it’s to Easternize it and make it more Islamic. If the early 20th century was about the East trying to join what it couldn’t lick, the early 21st may be about the East trying to lick what it hasn’t been able to join." (George Jonas).

What did the Palestinian people do when Israel withdrew from the Gaza Strip?  Remember, Jews have had a history there for centuries, perhaps longer than any Palestinian.  "Gaza" is mentioned in our Bible "Tanach" as a Philistine city.  Samson died there.  Jews have lived there since the Hasmonean era.  They were living there in 61CE and when the Crusaders appeared in the Holy Land as well as when the Ottoman Turks came to have control.

In 2005 Israel withdrew from the Gaza Strip in the name of peaceful coexistence.  Instead, the Palestinians  voted in "Hamas," a terrorist force whose only aim was terrorism and to wipe Israel and the Jews from the map.  Hamas and other affiliates of theirs began a daily rain of Qassam rockets, katyushas and mortars into Israeli cities and farms, sometimes 80 per day.  With Syria and Iran's help, they smuggled into Gaza tons of weapons, ammunition, explosives, ground-to ground and ground to air missiles, anti-aircraft shoulder held missiles and anti-tank weapons along with the newer long distance missiles that just reached Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.

Israel had withdrawn in the name of peace as they have no intention of harming people or fighting.  They started all this when Prime Minister Olmert was at the helm in Israel and his Kadima party and most of the Israelis were promising more land for the future state of Palestine in the areas of Judea/Samaria.  At first Israel was restrained and Israel realized that their rocket emplacements were in the middle of women and children.

The terrorists took the wrong move when by their tunnel attacked Israeli soldiers inside of Israel on June 25, 2006, killing 2 and kidnapping one.  Diplomacy didn't retrieve Gilad Shalit, and by the end of June Israel re-invaded Gaza to retrieve him and to destroy their ability to continuously threaten Israeli security.

Now I see Morsi, a  leader of the Muslim Brotherhood and  not only the President of Egypt but now  the man in charge of watching and controlling the Brotherhood's off-shoot; Hamas.  Will the stage-light work psychologically on him and turn him around to become a mentch instead of a terror hungry monger?  Hopefully it will be with the nudging of the USA with their  yearly stipend that will keep him on task.  To change a behavior takes replacement behaviors that are better.  I hope this attention will do the trick as Israel wants only peace.  We won't know till both the Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas and the rest change their charters and their minds to accept the fact that Israel is there to stay.

Halting Gaza Attacks: Update on Operation Pillar of Defense

Nadene Goldfoot
150 rockets were launched by Hamas terrorists in this past week including 3 cross-border attacks.    Today Israel has carried out targeted strikes to break  up the places terrorists are shooting from.  Israel is not about to accept this escalation of rockets on Israeli citizens.

The IDF patrol was 200 meters west of the Gaza border when it was hit and caught on fire from the  missile shot by terrorists.  All 4 were wounded with one seriously with a head wound.  Ashkelon is only 6 miles away so they were probably taken there to the hospital.

Today Hamas fired the Fajr-5 with a range of almost 40 miles which puts 3 million Israelis within missile range. That could put Tel Aviv within range being it is about 44 miles away.  thousands of Gazans chanted wildly that they wanted their terrorists to hit Tel Aviv.   "Helped by the contraband trade through tunnels from Egypt, Gaza militias have smuggled in these longer-range rockets."

Israel is made up of not quite 6 million Jews and 1.4 million Arabs. This means about half of the country must find a bomb shelter for survival.   Hamas thinks nothing of targeting civilians and shoots at them from populated areas on purpose such as placing their missile launchers near mosques, hospitals and schools.  Israel is trying to miss these centers.

Ahmed al-Jabri was targeted and killed who was the head of the Hamas military wing.  He had planned the kidnapping of IDF soldier Gilad Shalit.  He has been the planner of terrorist attacks that killed Israeli civilians and was the one that ordered terrorists to fire thousands of rockets at Israel.

Israel has the right and responsibility to protect the citizens of Israel and defend itself from these unwarrented terror attacks.  Obama gave his support to Israel to defend itself.  At least the US Department of State condemned the rockets fired from Gaza and also backed Israel's right to self-defense.

These are cowardly acts of Hamas and the other terror groups.  They are not taking on soldiers.  They fight while hiding behind women and children. That's why they are called "terrorists."   This operation comes after much restraint along with public and diplomatic warnings to Hamas to stop.  They have answered with more rockets fired.

Gilad Shalit Made It Home:

Nadene Goldfoot
Gilad Shalit is finally home after more than 5 years of being held captive after being kidnapped by Hamas.  He showed up thinner and very pale.  His voice was faint and he seemed to have difficulty concentrating.  He shows signs of malnutrition and a lack of exposure to sunlight which would mean having a vitamin D deficiency.

Before he got home Egypt interviewed him on their TV station which was not part of the bargain.  He was brought by a Hamas gunman belonging to the Qassam Brigade, the military wing of Hamas who was wearing a black face mask and green headband.  I suppose he didn't want to be identified by Israel.   He was carrying his video camera.

The TV interviewer asked a stupid question in that she asked why he only gave one interview while held a captive.  She then ignored the fact that Hamas had barred everyone from visiting him including the Red Cross while he was held.  Unlike Palestinian prisoners, he has been in isolation the whole time.  It was only after this questioning that Gilad got a physical checkup.

Yonit Levy in Israel, an Israeli TV anchor, said she thought the questioning in Egypt amounted to boarderline torture.  Israel will not talk with him about his experiences for the next 10 days.  He deserves a break.

PS:10/18/11 The problem is that Israel is freeing mostly 1,000 murderers for one 19 yr old kidnapped solder of theirs who hadn't done anything except to be a part of the IDF (Israel Defense Force).  Hamas and Fatah are already talking about how they'll kidnap others in order to get back their killers.  It's an imbalanced swap that is liable to cause more harm for other Israelis, but I can understand Israel doing this.  Every mother and father in Israel saw in Gilad their own son or daughter in the service.  Life to Israelis is precious.  They're lucky I was not in charge.  I would have put a chip in every Arab freed, especially the killers.  I would then have some sort of system that would allow me to know when they approached in my vicinity so that I could be prepared and defend myself.  We have chips in our pets so that they can be identified.  It's terrible to free known killers who are anxious to do it again.

Gilad Shalit's Release: Trading Terrorists for Young Soldier

Nadene Goldfoot
About 6 years ago, a 19 year old soldier, Gilad Shalit, was kidnapped by Hamas terrorists.  Israel didn't know if he was alive or dead.  Nobody like the Red Cross could get to him.

Finally a deal has been made and Israel is trading 1,027 Hamas prisoners for Gilad.  Included in the terrorist's number are some 450 terrorists who had murdered Israelis.

Netanyahu must have had nightmares over making this decision, as it releases potential killers again to be able to strike civilians.  The value of life to Jews is immense, whereas life is cheap to our enemies, considering how quick they are to become walking bombs, or how quickly their parents are ready to sacrifice them for political gains.  Like Golda Meier stated, "when the Arabs love their children as much as we love ours, then there is a chance for peace".  Netanyahu knows that there has been so much pressure put on his government to get Gilad free that he must do this even though logic may argue.

Gilad has been handed over to Egypt by Hamas by having been driven through the Rafah crossing in a black car.  He's not in Israel yet.

Of course Hamas thinks this is a big victory over Israel and now feel that kidnapping is a working plan.  Moshe Yaalon of Israel said he felt the deal was a "capitulation to terror" which could result in hundreds of murdered Israelis in the years to come.  Hamas "proudly summarized the day and said Israel had promised peace, while they had promised terrorism." I ask how they can be proud of themselves as a people for thinking that.

Five Years a Prisoner: Gilad Shalit-Israeli in Gaza

Nadene Goldfoot
It's been five years that Gilad Shalit was kidnapped by Hamas terrorists.  This young man was born August 28, 1986, the year after I left Israel.  He joined the IDF at age 19 in July 2005.  The next year, June 25, 2006, he was captured and taken prisoner.

Hamas terrorists had infiltrated an army post in Israel and had attacked them.  Several of the IDF were killed.  Corporal Gilad, in a tank, was hit by a rocket propelled grenade and had a broken hand and shoulder wound.  He was kidnapped and taken, never to receive the rights in the Geneva Convention.

Israel has received 3 letters, an audio tape and a DVD letting them know he was alive. In order to receive this much Israel had to release 20 female Palestinian prisoners. In order to release Gilad, Hamas wants the release of all female and underage Arab prisoners plus 1,000 more of the men. The ICRC (Red Cross) reports that he has not been heard from for the past two years and wonder if he's alive.
Gilad is a dual citizen of Israel and France.  His parents are Noam and Aviva Shalit.  They have not been able to get messages to him.  The Red Cross has been denied access.  President Sarkozy of France and Chancellor Merkel of Germany have been working on trying to help free Shalit.  His parents admit that the price Hamas is asking is heavy.  The Hamas prisoners Israel holds are hard core murderers.  One in particular is Marway Barghouli who is serving 5 life-term sentences.  If freed he could become the successor of Abbas, leader of Fatah who has just recently joined Fatah with Hamas.
The only other person I have heard about that was kept a prisoner for so long has been John McCain b: August 29, 1936 who was taken prisoner in Vietnam at age 36 and held for 6 years from October 1967 to 1973.  He was later able to become a US Senator and then run for President, but was considered too old by many for the position.

A movement is urging everyone to write to the U.N., Red Cross, the European Union, the  Palestinian Authority and the International Criminal Court to free Gilad.  The website to send a birthday message is below.
