BDS Equals Anti-Semitism

Nadene Goldfoot
Religion is behind the motivation of bringing on BDS against Israel by a handful of people in Portland, Oregon as well as the rest of the world.  It seems we're always facing some form or other.  It's an old story.

"In 2005, Palestinian civil society issued a call for a campaign of boycotts, divestment and sanctions (BDS) against Israel until it complies with international law and Palestinian rights. A truly global movement against Israeli Apartheid is rapidly emerging in response to this call. " They call for ending Apartheid.  That's something that went on in Africa.  It's not the story of Israel at all.  The truth is it's the opposite of apartheid.  This accusation comes from the Palestinians'  warped view of reality and narrow mindedness.  They have found others gladly buy into such a ridiculous claim and it's working so they use it.  Facts go by the wayside.

Coming right down to it, people working on BDS, such as Portlanders in our own City Council, feel they must cause Israel to bend to their wishes, which are nothing but wishes stemming from anti-Semitism.  There is no basis, no legitimate reasons for wanting to do the only Democratic country in the Middle East, harm.

They are people who are weak in their knowledge of what's going on on in the world.  The history of the Jews, why they returned to Israel, and the struggles they have had has gone over their heads.  All that motivates them is hearsay-gossip, innuendos, and anti-Semitism.

A people without a country of their own for 2,000 years is being shafted by a nomadic people of recent years who belong to a group that already has 49 countries of their own religion.  Israel is the only Jewish state in the world.  The original state of Judah was destroyed by the Romans in 70 CE.  Surrounded by enemies from the Muslim world, Portland has added their barbs and missiles of BDS to the already suffering state.

Professor Kontorovich  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ub2x5UvjUs4  Speaking from the perspective of International Law
Top drawer international lawyers such as Prof. Kontorovich,  Eugene Rostow, a former Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs, and  Stephen Schwebel, formerly President of the International Court of Justice,   have proved that BDS philosophy is wrong and an unjust persecution of the new state of Israel.  This is just a few of the international lawyers who defend Israel's right to exist and defend their actions to continue existing.  "Prof. Kontorovich has also written and lectured extensively about the legal aspects of the Israel-Arab conflict."  That's something that people backing BDS should take time to study.

Nimoy actually showing the sign of the Cohens, seen on gravestones of Jews

For what they are trying to do to Israel backs no merit.  "It doesn't compute", as Leonard Nimoy used to say on Star Trek as Captain Kirk's side kick, Mr. Spock, the half Vulcan half human  .  Both Leonard Nimoy and William Shatner, who played Captain Kirk,  happen to be Jewish in real life.  "President Obama, who said he loved Spock, similarly described Nimoy's character as "cool, logical, big-eared and level-headed, the center of Star Trek's optimistic, inclusive vision of humanity's future."  ""His legacy as that character is key to the enjoyment of Star Trek. The way that Spock was used as a device for the writers to examine humanity and examine what it meant to be human, that's really what Star Trek was all about. And in finding Leonard Nimoy, they found the perfect person to portray that."  One problem of being human is that we don't use the logic and intelligence enough that we have, which the Vulcans had more of.

William Shatner's Star Trek Captain Kirk, felt he had to keep quiet in his early years of his career about being Jewish.  Now, at 71, he's speaking out.  He had discovered that the word "G-d" is an anathema to Hollywood, where they fear people will "feel slighted if it is not their God.  One way or another, everyone is searching for G-d, whether God is money, philosophy, family or a variety of ways humans search for something beyond themselves,"

William Shatner is also Jewish from Toronto, Canada.  "He wanted to start therapudic riding programs in Israel for all children.  "I had ambitions of taking children from Jordan, Egypt, even Gaza, and busing them to riding centers that would take young children who hadn't yet been inculcated into hate, and they would see the commonality of all humanity," says Shatner.  I think he would have a hard time finding such children today, sadly.

Here, religion more often than not has erased logic, especially in the case of BDS which is religiously motivated.  Starting off with Africa's  religious leader, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, who seems to have a grudge against Israel, this esteemed man, most human and not godly at all, sided with the Palestinians.  Perhaps he "sees" his own people in them by comparison, taken over by the ruling whites, which is not the same situation at all in Israel as what has happened in South Africa.

Through his efforts, the Sabeel movement took off, and that includes BDS against Israel, another form of harm for the tiny state just like a missile attack.

"Disinvestment from Israel is a campaign conducted by religious and political entities which aims to use disinvestment to pressure the government of Israel to put "an end to the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories captured during the 1967 military campaign." The disinvestment campaign is related to other economic and political boycotts of Israel."  The Presbyterians and now Methodists are involved in backing the movement.  When you look at these 2 Protestant religions, they have already gone to the point of the "Replacement Theory" whereby Jews are replaced by them in being G-d's favorite.  So it must be easy for them to kick Israel in the shins and not back this tiny state in it's fantastic efforts to stay afloat and exist.  I sense a streak of jealousy here.  You know, it was Tevye, the milkman (Fiddler on the Roof) , who said, "Why us, G-d?  Couldn't you pick on somebody else?  We have a hard row to hoe.  We didn't ask for the position.  It's not something that makes us special, but a huge responsibility to have accepted.  One thing for sure, we have had the stiff neck to not go back on our promise.  We've lasted throughout the centuries from the time of Moses  who asked this of us in about 1300 BCE to today;  about 3,315 years.

Then, as if this isn't enough, we have the Catholics who have had a history of persecution against Judaism from the days of the Crusaders during the 1,000s  and then the Spanish Inquisition in 1492 and onwards.  Christianity has only let up with their slings and arrows in about the 1960s, actually, considering all the anti-Semitic goings on.  Now it's coming back big-time, showing some acts similar to what happened in Germany in the 20s and 30s against Jews. It doesn't stop there.  Now we have Iran's religious leader, the Ayatollah, saying Israel will be destroyed by them.   This is an updated version being we have had our own state of Israel for the past 67 years.

Trying to destroy Israel by cutting off it's economic life-blood for existence is what they are doing.  At the same time, though they are too hot-blooded to think about it, Israel is made up of inside it's borders, 1.7 million Arabs, some of them Christians.  In Judea and Samaria, so close that they are simply like a neighborhood of Israel, are Arabs who were depending on some of the industries for jobs.  Boycotting, the B in BDS of Boycotting, Divesting and Sanctions, is their way of trying to stop Israel in the financial areas.  And why are they attacking Israel?  It has been the Palestinian Arabs who have been attacking Israel physically!  However, the religious groups in South Africa and those few religious in the rest of the world have taken the old steps of being against the Jewish people.  Why?  For their refusal of accepting their religion.  So you see, it isn't enough that Jews are getting the same raw deal from the Muslims of not accepting their form of worship.  Jews are the meat in the sandwich, getting crushed from both sides.

How can intelligent people think for a minute that Jews would cause harm, harm that they have suffered from for the past 2,000 years, on people they share their land with?  It's not a part of our religion to do such things.  We live by the Golden Rule; Don't do to others what you would not want done to you.  This is why it's so asinine.  Only minds wanting to believe such filth can do it.

It's not enough that Israel is one of the leading countries in being a start-up nation in business, and for a country made up of only 6 million Jews and 1.7 million Arabs, that is remarkable in that they are being compared with all countries of much larger sizes,

"The Council on Foreign Relations states in its publisher's blurb for the book that Start-up Nation addresses the question: "How is it that Israel—a country of 7.1 million people, only sixty years old, surrounded by enemies, in a constant state of war since its founding, with no natural resources—produces more start-up companies than large, peaceful, and stable nations like Japan, China, India, Korea, Canada, and the United Kingdom?

All the attacks on Israel have not prevented their innate talents to produce and to live.  Other countries would find it very hard to do so.  Israelis have creative minds and continue to create.  Any group deciding foolishly to use BDS to harm Israel will not be an intelligent group, that is for sure, only a hateful one, and they never last.  Israel continues to produce, especially in the medical field which they share with the world.  All people can or are benefitting from achievements by Israel and by the Jewish people.  It sounds like I'm bragging, but I am proud of the achievements they have made.

By the same token, the religion of Judaism was first to establish humane rules for living among others.  Our history is that it was designed by G-d as G-d spoke to Moses, so let it be.  Jews are only trying to be fair with the Palestinians as much as they are not being fair with the Jewish people.  Israel has designed plans and have tried to carry them out that benefit the Palestinians, only their Arab leaders have managed to curtail many of  the good acts and persuade Arabs to attack the Jews anyway!  A good example is that after 67 years, Arabs have been rioting in Jerusalem, trying to take the capital being their motivation.

I watched CNN's program last night with Anthony Bourdain, the chef, who happens to have Jewish roots, travel the world to Turkey, what remains of the Ottoman Empire.  He interviewed several people, the last being a businessman who said money was what made the world go around.  It was money that was important to him; not the freedom of speech, not any democratic values that Israel and the USA share.  Just money.  It didn't matter to him that he lacked these things that we have.  He's happy in a beautiful home being able to show it to Bourdain.  What's happening to Turkey is that President Erdogan has been their leader for some time, first as PM and since 2014 as President, and has become very religious, imposing his Islamic ideas on all.  But, this man didn't mind at all.  As long as he's not affected, he doesn't care what is happening.  Of course this religious bent is causing him to be difficult with Israel.
I'm afraid many people share his lack of having values in his life.  The heck with what is going on, but isn't it fun to get on the band wagon and persecute someone?  And that someone is Israel.   Just don't confuse these people with the facts.

Presbyterian Friendship With Israel Damaged-But Responding

Nadene Goldfoot

Oh how fleeting true friendship can be;  here today and gone tomorrow.  The Jews are finding that the Presbyterians are this type of friend, sadly.  In 1987 they were our good friends, and in one of their General Assembly meetings of that year were all against anti-Semitic behaviors.  They did a 180 degree turn-around this year in their 220th General Assembly meeting in Pittsburgh and voted on a resolution  against Israel by promoting the worst type of attack promoting the BDS movement which tries to hurt Israel economically and attacks even their legitimacy of existence.  Their committee #15 just voted yes to divest from 3 companies who do business with Israel:  Caterpillar, Hewlett-Packard and Motorola with a vote of 36 for, 11 against and 1 abstention.  They have even gone as far as believing in the completely false accusation of Israel being an "apartheid" state.   They just went back on  25 years of friendship.  The full general assembly will have a final vote later this week. In my opinion, instead of voting with the committee, it would be much better if they voted to encourage the Palestinian leaders to attend the peace meeting and find a peaceful solution.  Netanyahu has pleaded with them to come, but they remain steadfast in their conviction of  continuing their shelling, instead.

It all comes about in their belief in the Replacement Theology.  Now I'm all for people believing whatever they want-as long as it doesn't hurt anyone.  Religion should be something that makes people act in a better way towards others and be an aid to their natural understanding of being kind, if such a thing exists, which I hope does. I hope mankind has advanced from the stage of the Chimps who lash out at a moment's provocation.   This Replacement Theology belief has turned out to be an attack on Jews, something that I thought was long buried in the Christian history.  According to their belief today, Jews are no longer the "Chosen ones' but have been replaced by them.  In this theory, there is no room for Jews anymore.  If they want to believe they are now chosen, that's fine with me.  But by acting on this belief and using it as a crutch to harm Jews is terrible.  Is this really being Christian?  The other Christian denominations have voted NO.

As far as Jews being the "chosen ones," it's our belief that G-d, in choosing us, gave us the extra responsibility of following his laws.  We were the first to be presented with them.  Often we have said, "Why couldn't you have chosen someone else?" Remember Tevia's plea in "Fiddler on the Roof"?   Look at Genesis 15 and again in Exodus 19:5.  It's been a burden, but one we signed onto, so be it. Our conception of being chosen is not a superiority over others but our acceptance of  a heavy responsibility and moral duty.   It's like being the ones who are A1 in the USA Draft to serve in the army.  We're the ones who are to serve.   We are not ones to break a promise to G-d.  We are the stiff-necked people.

These new Presbyterian ideals have come to them through their trust in the "Kairos Palestine Document that has been written by Palestinian Arab Christians, who have a decidedly warped and one-sided belief.  This tenet attacks the legitimacy of  not only Israel but of Judaism itself.  It justifies terrorism for the Palestinians and blames Israel for all the ills in the Middle East as if nothing else has been going on there.  It fails to mention the actions of the Arabs such as their rocket attacks on southern Israel, the anti-Semitism constantly taught to their people in the schools, through the PA TV station like al-Jazeera, and in the mosques.  For them, the ends justify the means, regardless.

Update 7-6/12 In a narrow vote, the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (USA) rejected divestment from companies doing business with Israeli security forces in the West Bank. I'm thankful that some had reviewed their attitudes and ideas and did not pass this act that would have done much harm to the peace process.

US Presbyterian Church Taken Over by Arabs With Agenda: IPMN-PCUSA

Nadene Goldfoot
It's shocking, but the Presbyterian Church has been into anti-Zionist and anti-Semitic activities for a long time, now.  Their IPMN-PCUSA (International Public Management Network of the Presbyterian Church-USA) a political arm-have accused Jews of controlling Hollywood, the media, and American politics as well as blame Israel for the American housing and economic crisis.  This is going over the top of being anti-Semitic.  Do they realize that Jews are far less than 1% of the world's population?  For about the smallest group in the world, we are accused of doing everything bad in the world.  This is still using us as the scapegoats of the world.

This same group's  IPMN leader, Noushin Framke, likes the Obama cartoon with the Jewish stars and another website that says that Hamas should keep Israeli Gilad Shalit hostage until Palestinians are granted a right of return.  The information coming from  IPMN-PCUSA posted her opposition to a 2-state solution and the existence of a Jewish state, which shows she goes along with Hamas-Fatah and the Muslim Brotherhood.

This group, speaking in the name of the Presbyterians, is actually speaking for Palestinians led by Hamas and now Fatah whose charter is the destruction of Israel.  They have disregarded any peace agreements.  The Israel/Palestine Mission Network of PCUSA has produced a booklet "Steadfast Hope", the Palestinian Quest for Just Peace.  It's actually the plan of taking over Israel and driving the inhabitants into the sea.

Friday the group passed a resolution calling for voting on divestment in multi-national companies making a profit.  Any activity Israel is doing is called non-peaceful and they refer to Isarel as Israel-Palestine, also an untruth.  Their Christian Post reported this.  They want their church's US General Assembly to pull out of investments in Caterpillar, Motorola Solutions and Hewlett-Packard until the church gets their way of destroying Israel.

Why these 3 companies?  They say that they had participated in Israel's "occupation of the "West Bank,"
built the security barrier (wall-protecting Israelis from Palestinian attacks which is saving many lives) and destroyed Arab homes, road and fields to make way for towns in the West Bank-according to them as illegal acts.

First off, let's look at the facts.  Israel was attacked by many Arab states in 1967 and as if by a miracle, little Israel, surrounded by enemies, won.  By winning, they gained back Judea and Samaria-ancient homelands of the Jewish people who most people now call the Jordanian term of "West Bank", meaning the west side of the Jordan River.  By winning, they were able to unite East Jerusalem with the rest of Jerusalem as East Jerusalem had still been in Jordanian hands, and they lost the battle.  .

Israel was legally created May 1948 through the UN as well as owning outright most of the land they finally got.  Arab leaders have not been able to accept this fact that there is a teeny Jewish state in the midst of 22 Muslim states of which there exists 48 Muslim majority states in the whole world.  Israel was there long before Muslims were ever created by Mohammed, as a matter of fact.  Jews are the natives in this case.

The Presbyterians also have thrown Israel's history to the wind, which is what so many people in the USA have also done with their own US history.  Some people questioned even think Israel is a Muslim country.  They couldn't even find the USA on a map, let alone Israel.  Knowing this, I doubt very much if many Presbyterians are well educated about the history of Israel, the wars they have had to fight since 1948, the peace offers since 1948, or even the history of the people who call themselves "Palestinians".  I bet they've never heard of the book written by Joan Peters, who was advisor to several USA Presidents, called "From Time Immemorial", which tells exactly where these Arabs had come from and why.  They came into Jewish towns and cities looking for work, which they got.  Evidently things weren't that good in their own home towns.   It's a sad state of affairs to realize that Americans don't know a hoot about their own country let alone Israel way out in the Middle East.

Well, not all of these voting in the Presbyterian Church were negligent of facts.  A few Council members opposed the decision, so it wasn't 100%.  They told the others that "divestment is "inneffective and unproductive and actually goes against peacemaking."   That's for sure, as what they have done is side with the pack that wants to destroy Israel entirely.  Jews and Presbyterians have been friends, as Rabbi Steve Gutow, president of the Jewish Council for Public Affairs said he was "profoundly disappointed.  Neither peace nor the long friendship between our two communities is served by this action."

Look who the leader is in this divestment action.  Their agenda is to destroy  Israel.  They're not trying to bring about any peace.  They are being led by biased people with an agenda of their own that has nothing to do with the Christian religion.  Rev. Brian Ellison, Kansas City pastor and chair of their Mission Responsibility has just allowed himself to be sucked into this anti-Semitic attitude of being against Jews.  Such latent feelings prove to be fruitful to people wishing to destroy Israel.

No wonder it's been so hard to approach some churches in trying to present a power point of history and facts about Israel lately.  They accept Muslim speakers but not Jews.  They don't want to be confused with facts.  It might upset their prejudice.

How Sabeel Movement is Harming Israel

Nadene Goldfoot
The Sabeel movement is a Christian organization of Christian liberation theology.  It is based in Jerusalem, founded by a Palestinian Anglican priest, Rev. Naim Ateck, former Canon of St. George's Cathedral in Jerusalem.  They are partners of the Presbyterian Church.

The problem is that they are promoting an anti- Israel agenda of divestment from Israel.  They are also accused of using anti-semitic rhetoric and have been saying that Israel's policies of occupying East Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria (West Bank) are wrong.  They are going along with the UN's take on the situation, and I think they are all wrong!

When all the surrounding states had the gall to gang up and attack little Israel in 1967, they most likely all thought that would be curtains for Israel, but they were wrong.  Such greedy people.  They couldn't allow a teeny little Jewish state to exist!  To the amazement of all, Israel won against such an onslaught.  You'd think that perhaps G-d was helping them!  Needless to say, when a country is attacked and wins, they usually take over the land involved, and Israel did in fact liberate East Jerusalem, connecting it to the rest of the city making it whole once again.  Judea and Samaria in the Bible days did belong to Israel, and lying next to Israel became part in that we have religious people settling there once again.

Sabeel is advocating a two-state solution as long evidently as Israel kicks out every last Jew in Judea and Samaria and East Jerusalem while not being able to trade at all with the rest of the world.  Such nice people.  They have the chutzpah to say that they are not anti-semitic but condemn such acts!  Besides trying to break Israel's back with such an attitude, what are they doing to help promote peace between the two peoples?

They also complain about "the wall."  I suppose they'd rather not have a wall which keeps terrorists from coming into Israel and killing innocent civilians.  They want to bring an end to Israel's illegal and immoral behavior!  Talk about chutzpah!  Israel has a religion and a legal system highly developed in the acts of legality and morality.  We've even been criticized for having it in the past.  I think we invented it!  They should be talking about the illegal and immoral acts of the Palestinian terrorists who haven't stopped shelling Israel or sneaking into the tiny state and murdering people for being Jewish.

The group, founded through Nelson Mandela and then to Archbishop Desmond Tutu of South Africa, is still admonishing Israel for being apartheid.  Israel just happens to be the most non-apartheid state in the whole world.  I suggest they go pick on the Palestinians who want a state free of all Jews, just like the Nazis advocated.  They should have learned by now that Israel is made up of over one million Arabs, a lot of which are Christians.  They have all the rights that Jews have as well.  These South Africans still think that all states were like theirs and need liberating.

They believe that divestment plans are neither anti-Semitic or anti-Israel.  How can they possibly believe such a notion?  If you try to prevent any country from doing business with another, you are out to stop their progress and perhaps even make food a scarcity in order to change them.  I for one feel they are being very anti-semitic for the very fact that Israel is the only Jewish country in the world,  populated by Jews who came from horrible pogroms in Russia as well as survivors from the Holocaust of the 2nd WW.  They are picking on the scapegoats of the world who have turned out to be warriors protecting what scrap of land they have been given in order to continue surviving in a hostile environment.  By coming down on Israelis, they are also coming down hard on Jews.

Whatever good intentions these people may have are marred by the fact that they put so much dependency on the United Nations, a group that has crumbled in upholding laws.  Today they are topheavy with Muslims who wish to destroy Israel and their voting reflects this. Up to now the USA has been our friend and has vetoed actions against Israel.   To uphold International law as the final say so is rejecting what is fair and right in the world.  If the UN doesn't  straighten out they may go the way of the League of Nations.

Sabeel's group claims to be called by G-d to work for justice and by Christ to work for peace.  I suggest they stop siding with their Arab Muslim brothers and actually think peacefully.  When a showdown comes and G-d forbid if Israel is harmed, they are next for being in harm's way.
