DNA Study of Jews Covers 3,000 Year History

Are Jews a race as Hitler's regime tried to make out?  Are we so different from other people?  Being an amateur genealogist has led me into the study of my family's dna, and with that to John Entine's book:  Abraham's Children-race, identity, and the DNA of the Chosen People in 2007.  He has just written an excellent overview of another new book just out.  It's "Legacy" by Harry Ostrer, which is a genetic history of the Jewish people.

DNA studies have only been around for the past 10 years since the human genome was first mapped that have led to so much information.  This has now become the new age of genetics.  It was found that we Americans, coming from all the countries of the world were found to be 99.9% genetically identical.  That 0.01% now is found to be the key that holds all our differences; so is crucial.   It makes us not only individuals but connects us  to our own group.  It is made up "of 3 million nucleotide pairs which determine our skin or hair color and susceptibility to certain diseases" among other things.

The term "race" is passe today.  Instead, we use population and  clime.  Race refers to "region of ancestral origin."  We Jews are found through DNA to link to sizable Jewish communities of North America and Europe for sure, as that's where most of the Ashkenazi Jews came from.  The exciting part is that it's also true that we link up with Yemenite and other Middle Eastern Jews who have relocated to Israel.  Besides that, scientists have found The Black Lemba of southern Africa carry the J1 gene, which is called the Cohen gene, so there's another link.  We find we are linked also to the Cochin Jews of India of which I met some in Israel.  However, the Bene Israel of India were not linked to us as their family histories had taught them, nor did the Ethiopian Jews as well whose history was that they were the descendants of the Queen of Sheba and King Solomon.  I say that perhaps their ancestors were simply in the train that brought Sheba and her handmaidens that came to visit Solomon and as the story progresses, went back to Ethiopia quite pregnant.  It obviously wasn't caused by the Jews surrounding Solomon.  The latest I know of are the Pashtun Tribe of Afghanistan who also claim to be from one of the lost tribes.  DNA has turned up a few of my distant cousins from this population.

80% of Jewish men and 50% of Jewish women can trace their ancestry back to the Middle East.  The men, in leaving Eretz Yisrael on trading missions often married women in these new lands, so until there was a community in certain places, did not have the rule of being Jewish because the mother was Jewish.  Scientists have also found that we here today  came from 4 Jewish women in the distant past, but Jon doesn't mention that as there is so much to talk about.

What makes us a little different is that though we make up only 3% of the USA population, we have won more than 25% of the Nobel Prizes for American scientists since 1950.  We're not taking over the world.  It just happens that our DNA is producing some very smart people.  Maybe the skill involved is a good memory, as we also have our quirks and our diseases carried by our DNA such as genetic mutations causing breast and ovarian cancer, Tay-Sachs, etc.  We turn out doctors and lawyers, and you can't belong to these professions without brains, so not only does environment and a pushy mother help, but the genes for it as well.

It's scary for Jews  to bring up this subject as the Nazis used it against us.  However, this is a new era and we have Jews among the top genetic researchers in the world.  Maurice Fishberg in the 20th century went around measuring head sizes but he and other phrenologists were so wrong.  Skull shape doesn't give us information about human differences except what's important for the hat industry.  The sociologist and cultural anthropologists, many of whom were Jewish, claimed that there was no differences between ethnic groups, but are finding that they were wrong.

Our Jewish identity has many threads, including DNA.  Arthur Koestler's book, The Thirteenth Tribe, made the insinuation that all Jews in Europe came from the Empire of Khazaria, which was what was to be later, part of the USSR.  The Royal family had converted to Judaism, and did not force the rest of their people to do so.  Instead, they either remained pagan or took up Christianity or Islam.  It's been found that my father could be from the Royal family as our DNA amounts to just 5% of the Jewish population.  If this is so, then we have been following Judaism since about the middle 600's and intermarrying with other Jews, thereby mixing up those Jewish genes. Update is that it is not my father's haplogroup but that of another group of Jews, most likely Hungarians that could be directly from Khazaria.  There goes my chance to have royalty from Khazaria in my roots, although we could carry some tiny segments from that empire.

Judaism is a religion, and now, perhaps there is some truth in that it is from a particular population from the Middle East that we refer to as Eretz Yisrael, our Jewish Homeland..  We gave up converting people long ago.  In fact, if you want to become Jewish, you usually have to ask a rabbi 3 times before he will take you seriously.  We're not the world's most beloved people with all the anti-Semitism that abounds.  We are, as it turns out, a wonderful subject for DNA science, and become good subjects for study along with East Asians, Amish, Icelanders, aboriginals, Basques and African tribes as well because we have all remained isolated for centuries because of geography, religion or the culture.  .

Other books on the subject I have read are: Jacob's Legacy by David B. Goldstein, a genetic view of Jewish history, 2008,  and Tracing Your Jewish DNA for Family History & Ancestry by Anne Hart; merging a mosaic of communities, 2003.  Koestler's book came out in 1976, before all this DNA study, and caused quite a stir.It mostly covers the Khazar Empire of Eastern Europe. which was wiped out by Genghis Khan and Russia.

Vicious Anti-Semitism in Malmo, Sweden

Malmo, Sweden was first settled by Jewish immigrants from the Holocaust as far as non Swedes go.  There were no problems until the Muslim arrived with their anti-Semitic attitudes and actions.  It has become a Muslim ghetto in south Sweden according to the Swedish Atlas reader EM.  The hatred for Jews has been growing and seen in the children as well.

I have a distant cousin that I have been in contact with through the genealogy website of Genie, being my maternal grandmother was from northern Sweden and came to the USA at age 18.  Through his suggestion I got onto an English newspaper to get in on their chat page about Jews and Israel several years ago.  Most everyone was decidedly anti-Semitic to the hilt!  I got so frustrated trying to explain facts that I finally gave up,  hearing from just one person who agreed and understood.  My grandmother would roll over in her grave if she saw how her people had become so deadened to people who were trying to live peacefully.

Here in Malmo we see the mayor, Itmar Reepatu, who uses anti-Semitic language and is one of the worst.  At Herb Garden School is one lone 65 year old male Jewish teacher, a survivor from Poland who was forced to hear a chorus of students calling out, Fucking Jew!  Fucking Jew!  His students no longer are listening to him, but instead rioting by pouring detergent on the floor and throwing things in the classroom.   The chanting continued with "Disqualification-la Jew!  Disqualification-la Jew!  Fucking Jew.   When Henryk walked through the corridor students yelled "Yahoud" while pointing at him.  That's Arabic for Jew.

Henryk Grynfeld, the teacher, remarked that in Poland he was a fucking Jew, and when he came to Sweden he was a bloody Pole, and now it's back to being a fucking Jew again.  It's getting worse, though.  Now students are calling out, "We should kill all the Jews!"  Henry is not teaching Swedes like my grandmother.  He's teaching mostly children from the Middle East who know nothing about Sweden's history and who watch a lot of Arab TV that too often have the same type of programming that German Nazis had.  There are some good students, he explains.  I bet they're watching Qatar's TV programming.

Other Jewish teachers have quit.and many families have left Malmo.  Sofia was a Jewish teacher who told of asking her students to draw pictures of Jews and how they depicted them as monsters with evil eyes.  Then a student said that "we want to kill all Jews."  She replied that then they could start with her because she was Jewish.  Someone then asked if she were Jewish.  After telling them she was, they were incredulous, saying, "But you're nice!"  Some started crying and she did, too, when she heard some say that they did not mean you.

But then one day a 9 year old stood outside her door and wouldn't come in, explaining that his parents wouldn't let him because she was Jewish!  And the Swedish people of Malmo do nothing to turn things around.  Could it be because they are afraid of their new immigrants?  Too bad, because when the Jews came to their city they could feel proud for saving their lives.  How do they feel now?  Ashamed, I hope.  This generation is one of weaklings who can't stand up for Human Rights right in their own city the way their grandparents and parents did.  .

Canada's Jews, Israel's Good Friends

Canada is considered to be one of Israel's good friends,  with the government in Ottawa behind Netanyahu's Israeli government through thick and thin, like even when Obama's American administration was strained.

Israel's President Peres is flying to Canada and will speak about the Iranian issue of nuclear threat.  There are the changes in the Middle East to discuss as well, with her neighbors' rebellions in what is called the "Arab Spring" and the Muslim Brotherhood coming into power.

He'll promote the continued economic and scientific cooperation between the two countries and will be at the signing between the Royal Society of Canada and the Israeli Academy of Sciences and Humanities in science and technology as well.

Quebec is predominantly a French-speaking province and has had several anti-Israel protests there. Most of the Jews in Quebec live in Montreal.  The Jewish population in Quebec has fallen to 93,000 from 120,000.   in a population in 2011 of 7,903,001.

I don't know where they went but I did meet some in my Ulpan in Haifa, Israel, becoming teachers of English like myself back in 1980.  It was exciting meeting English speakers there from all sorts of places like Canada, England and Australia.  There were some accents that I was hardly able to understand.

Other Jewish communities are in Ottawa and Toronto as well.  The Jewish population is only about 372,000 in Canada as of 2005; much smaller than in the USA of about 5 million.

Muslim Brotherhood's Goals in America with "Dawa"

Obama just announced the end to the War on Terror for our country.  For me, it's the beginning of my state of intense fear for the USA. Terror is something that inspires fear.  It is a frightening aspect.   It's heralding the entrance of a power from a religion, and we're not supposed to mix religion with politics here.

Ah, but this is America.  The Muslim Brotherhood can't gain a hold here, can it?  After all, the Muslim Brotherhood's charter  only says that their goal is to turn the world into an Islamist empire.  It has chapters in 80 countries.  They wish to see America fall and tells its followers to be patient.  Why?  they feel that western democracy is corrupt, unrealistic and false.

The Conservative Political Action Conference, CPAC, is charged with coming under the influence of the Muslim Brotherhood through a Washington attorney and political activist, Suhail Khan.  He just happens to be connected with "Muslims for America." Khan's father, Mahboob Khan, was a leader of a large mosque in Santa Clara, California. He was also a founding father of the Muslim Brotherhood movement in America.  He had allowed Osama bin Laden's #2 man, Dr. Ayman al-Zawahiri, to raise money there.

Suhail has been a consultant to The Council on American-Islamic Relations, CAIR.  He served on committees at the Islamic Society of North America, ISNA.  Our government now tells us that they are fronts for Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood.  Suhail has served as a Republican congressional aide in the late 1990, and then joined the White House staff of George W. Bush's administration as a liaison to groups including veterans.  After that he got into the Dept. of Transportation after 9/11.

The Brotherhood is extremely anti-Semitic.  They are in a rage saying that Jews today are not the Israelites of old.  They call Jews "pigs." During the 2nd World War they supported the Nazis like the Ottoman Empire to the point of carrying out violent pogroms against Jews living in Egypt in November 1945. Interesting, science has stepped up in DNA studies and finds that the major haplogroup of Jews in Israel as J1 and I, J being called the "Cohen" gene, showing that we certainly have continued on for over 4,000 years.

 They're the ones that assassinated Anwar Sadat in 1981 because he had made peace with the hated Zionists, of which I am one.  Hamas, a known terrorist organization and dictators in Gaza,  is a wing of the Muslim Brotherhood.  They glorified Osama bin Laden, calling him a mujahid (heroic fighter).  They glorify martyrdom in "Palestine" and advocate violent jihad.  Their main operations are using deceptive strategy in democracies by appearing to be moderates and use the powers within and then sabotage it all.  Their plan is to replace democracy with fundamentalism of Sharia Law.

The Brotherhood refuses to commit to any Israel-Egypt peace treaty.  This is why Hamas's leader refuses to come to the peace table with Israel and instead sends its underlings.

A doctrine called "dawa," is a pre-violent form of jihad meant to get Islamizing into a a non-Muslim country.  Every Muslim activist seems to be a part of this, and the source of this information comes from no other person than  Yusuf Qaradawi, the spiritual leader of the Muslim Brotherhood who lives in Qatar.  He's the world's most influential Islamic cleric and the Emir is his mentor and friend.  Qaradawi said, "We will conquer Europe, we will conquer America, not through the sword but through dawa.  He has also called on killing all Jews everywhere and would love to do so himself with his bare hands, even though he's old and in a wheelchair.

Where we idolize George Washington for not telling a lie, the Muslim Brotherhood uses Taqiyya, an honored practice of lying for the faith, which they don't consider to be lying.  It's a part of the Shariah law and is used in infiltrating our democracy.

As I understand it, Obama was not upset with the Muslim Brotherhood taking over in Egypt since Mubarak was deposed.  Mubarak had fought against it.  So did Sadat.

Many Muslims in America say they are not terrorists, of course.  A majority are South Asians and most are Sufis, believing in harmony with the nation.  They make the mistake of thinking that the Brotherhood is good, however.

The Muslim Brotherhood goals are extreme.  They make it known that their intentions are to be violating the precepts of the USA as a power intending to take over the country and instill Sharia Law.  No other religious group has ever disrespected our platform before, coming here for religious freedom, not planning to take over and replace our religions  with theirs.  Very few people recognize this difference.

Obama has been supportive to their rise in international political power and has opened the door for them at the White House, something already started by our Republicans, sadly.  Our administration tells us that the War on Terror is at an end because the influence of al Qaeda has ended with Osama bin Laden's assassination last year under his directive.  Knowing what the Brotherhood stands for gives me the shivers, and makes me completely puzzled as to why our government would support this group, unless their goals are completely different than my hopes and dreams.

USA Funding Palestinians: Abbas and Mashaal Meet with Qatar's Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al Thani

Hamas is a terrorist group in Gaza.  Both the West and Israel consider it so.  That Mahmoud Abbas wanted to reconcile  Fatah with them was spelling disaster.  Netanyahu of Israel said to Abbas that "It is either peace with Hamas or peace with Israel.  You can't have them both."

Palestinians have been divided between these two rival groups since 2007 when Hamas ousted forces loyal to Abbas from Gaza.  An agreement was recently brokered by Qatar.  Abbas is backed by the West and Hamas is supported by Iran, who has threatened Israel time and again with complete destruction.  Qatar's leader urged the Arab world to stand behind the Palestinian' "historical rights".  They are simply not the same as historical Jewish rights.  He wants full statehood and the return of lands "occupied" by Israel in the 1967 war.  He must be referring to taking over all of East Jerusalem which is now integrated with the whole city, as it should be.  Qatar's leader must be either the Emir Shaikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani or his religious leader,Sheik Yusuf al- Qaradawi.

No wonder so many countries are not behind Israel with the EU being one of the major financial backers of the Palestinian authority (Fatah).  They seem to think that this backing will give us all a Palestinian government committed to nonviolence while recognizing Israel.  It isn't happening.  Hamas's leader refuses to come to the peace table let alone talk to Netanyahu.  They refuse to recognize Israel while they want the world to recognize them.

This was supposed to be a serious agreement.  The Qatari sponsorship means to them that it's accepted by the West and will be funded by this wealthy Gulf state.  Abbas of Fatah was most interested in ending the split and Khaled Mashaal was beginning  to go along with this PLO position.  Mashaal has prodded Hamas to take a pragmatic stance which is closer to the parent movement, the pan-Arab Muslim Brotherhood.  This gives me the shivers because in their charter, they advocate destroying Israel and all Jews.

The Fatah-Hamas relationship has been on and off again many times.  Obama has just stepped over his government's decision to not loan the Palestinians millions of dollars and did so anyway.  The West has given hundreds of millions in aid to the Palestinians who then shell southern Israel constantly.  After saying that both the USA and Europe would shun any government including members of an unreformed Hamas, what is he doing?

BDS Movement Not Impressing Methodists

The Methodist delegates at a general conference in Tampa, Florida have voted to reject divestment from Caterpillar, Motorola Solutions and Hewlett-Packard companies that trade with Israel.  I am most happy to hear this.

Desmond Tutu has been instrumental in getting people to divest from Israel..  He is South Africa's Archbishop who has endorsed this initiative which is like  adding one more pebble to the raft to sink Israel.  Here we had many Jews fighting against apartheid in his country but he doesn't want to  understand that apartheid simply doesn't exist in Israel.

The people behind this divestment are a certain group of Palestinian Christians, the United Methodist Kairos.  They are connected with Hamas and Fatah, who want to bring down Israel.  They keep drumming up antagonism with claiming that Israel violates Palestinian human rights and denial of their freedom.

The truth is that Israel has done everything possible to keep Palestinian  human rights and gives them freedom.  Palestinians of Israel number 1.4 million and are in the Knesset.  It is the Arabs living in Gaza under Hamas's rule that are attacking Israel constantly that don't regard Israel's human rights and freedoms.  It is also the Arabs in Judea and Samaria who are intolerable to Jews who also live there as well.  They want the whole land to become "Palestine" and be Judenrein, without Jews.  They attack Jews as well under Fatah's ruling.  The Druze who live in Israel are wonderful citizens and participate in Israel's Army.

I don't think there is another country on the face of this earth who are under such stress and attack as Israel, and to think that they are keeping their heads up above water and work to be fair to everyone is only a reflection of their inner beliefs.  They are a people surrounded by enemies in a world that seems to reject Jews at every possible chance they have.  This is one time that a group has resisted.

However, there are some holdouts.  There are several regional churches who will divest and they're hoping that they will be copied.  It's too bad they couldn't open up their ears, hearts and minds to find out what's really happening in Israel.  I would suggest they stay in Sderot or Ashkelon for a few days and visit with people there.

As someone whose mother had many Methodist ministers on the family tree, I am grateful that there are people who are rational.

 Oliver North was known to be favorable towards Israel and an Iraq-hater. From 1981-82 Caspar Weinberger was in Defense and Bill Casey at the CIA wanted our policy to favor Iraq but was being blocked.

 Reagan's first two years saw Secretary of State Alexander Haig as having an anti-Iraq pro-Israel line, including sending weapons to Iran to fight against Iraq. North was being snubbed and was thrown out of the inner circle that wanted to save Iraq from military loss.

 So in February 1982, CIA director Casey met with the head of the Iraqi secret service and was sending Saddam Hussein AWACS intelligence which he got from planes recently sold to the Saudis over Israel's strenuous objections.

 By 1983 Casey had a secret CIA group in Baghdad, giving Saddam Hussein everything from satellite photos to Iranian plans of battle.

 Here we are aiding and abetting Iraq who was also against Israel one minute and then killing off Saddam later. Now the USA is also in peril from Iran's ire from supposedly being such friends with Israel.

Whatever goes on with high level friendships always leads to one thing; Israel's danger. This is only one of many events.
