USA's State Department Still Doesn't Understand Meaning of Jewish Recognition

The number one expectation that Israel needs from the Palestinians is that they recognize Israel as a Jewish state.   The USA's spokeswoman for the State Department, Jen Psaki, told the "Al-Quds" (name for Jerusalem in Arabic) newspaper that the Palestinians don't need to recognize Israel as a Jewish state in the peace agreement if they don't wish to do so!!!

What?  Has Israel now become occupied and run by the USA and they can change the provisions of a peace treaty at their will?  What kind of peace negotiating is this?

Sorry, but this is not going to be met by Netanyahu or the knesset with joy and approval.  This is such an  important point yet the USA doesn't understand what the consequences are legally that can happen if they don't recognize Israel as a Jewish state and yet they are so obvious.  Israel cannot be in a situation where they will be forced to accept millions of Palestinians in Israel.  It's only 8,000 square miles as it is and would be flooded with Palestinians changing the country completely into another Muslim state to be run by Emirs or Kings, whatever, people like the rest of the Muslim states.  Then the Jews would be slaughtered and Israel would be destroyed.
                                     
The reason Israel was created in the very first place was to have a safe place for Jews to live in, free of hatred and Holocausts and people trying to convert them to their religion.  It is to be a haven for our people.  After being set upon for the past 2,000 years by others, the League of Nations saw that it was high time that Jews could be left alone in peace, and this was before the Holocaust.   Stating it is a Jewish State is their only protection from keeping it from being consumed by the Muslims states.  Netanyahu knows why they won't accept Israel as a Jewish state, and it has to do with the Arabs then having the right of return on the table to flood Israel with Arabs.  Why can't the USA state department see one move ahead?

Showing that there is no way that Palestinians are even considering to make peace, like Jordan did, was the Chairman of the Palestinian Authority, Abu Mazen, who said  "There is not a chance that he and the Palestinian nation will recognize Israel as a Jewish state".  Jordan already took over 80% of the promised Jewish Homeland and has been peaceful with Israel since the War of 1973.  The same goes for Egypt.  Sadat came to Jerusalem and made peace.  Egypt hasn't been trying to take over Israel's land.  Neither Egypt nor Jordan have accepted Israel as a Jewish state, however.  Their behavior so far hasn't called for Israel's needing it.  They made peace.
                                                                       

The concept and goals of a Palestine have been very undemocratic and quite like the Nazis.    They're demanding that Judea and Samaria must be all theirs and that no Jew can live there.  That's calling for the removal of about 400,000 Jews.  They want East Jerusalem, and Jerusalem is and has been since the beginning of recorded time the capital of the Jewish people.  To have a people drooling at the mouth to take over your country including a quarter of your capital  is just not going to happen.  Besides that, they've had many a Freudian slip that they plan on taking over all of Jerusalem.  It goes with the Hamas charter.   Fatah has joined Hamas in the past, only to be divided over who is the leader of both.  The only difference is that Hamas is hitting at Israel directly while Fatah has pulled the wool over the eyes of the world in pretending to want peace.  Sure, peace, like teaching their children with maps showing Palestine and no Israel, teaching songs of hatred for Jews.  They are fighting the battle between Jews and Palestinians with massive brain washing of their own people and this in turn has brain-washed many others as well.

 There has to be space between for security with a people unable to accept Israel on any count.  This is a people who have been attacking Jews since 1948.  There hasn't been much let-up.  Israel is still being attacked by Hamas terrorists and Fatah has had it's attacks as well; human walking bombs into restaurants and schools and such.  Hamas follows the Muslim Brotherhood Charter of destroying all of Israel and killing the Jews.  That's why it is absolutely necessary that they come to the conclusion that if they expect peace, they must accept Israel as being different from them; that they are a Jewish nation, democratic and wanting to enjoy life, and that 6 million of them, Jews, are following the laws of Moses.  Why is this so hard to accept?

Israel can't have a Palestinian state right next to them which will continue to fighting with the goal to destroy Israel.  One thing Israel is not is stupid.

All along, the Fatah Palestinians living in Judea and Samaria have been promoting hatred and denial of Israel in their culture, starting in their schools. They even celebrate the killers of Jews with lots of recognition and praise in city-wide programs.   They have done nothing to show that there will be peace between the two people.  Hamas continues to shell the parts of Israel within their scope of missile distance and vows never to make peace but to destroy Israel.  Abusive people we've got for neighbors.  And the state department thinks Israel can let them get away without recognizing them as a Jewish state?  They've got to be kidding.  Israel is not about to sign away their own land to a people who have been their enemy for the past 67 years.

Arabs' Attempt in Reviving the Dead 181 Partition Resolution

World War I was fought from 1914 to 1917 with the Ottoman Empire losing and the West winning which resulted in Palestine being taken over by the Western Powers in which Britain held the mandate from 1917 to May 14, 1948  to create a Jewish Homeland.  This was decided through the Balfour Declaration and the League of Nations.  The League of Nations died because they were breaking their own rules. It was started January 1918 by the USA and ended 12 April 1946.  It wasn't able to prevent WWII.   It changed over to become the United Nations on June 26, 1945 and in 1947 Britain put the matter of Palestine into their hands.  The UN Commission RECOMMENDED partitioning what was left out of the original Mandate into 2 new states; one Jewish and one Arab with Jerusalem to be an international zone belonging to neither.
                                                                       

David Lloyd George, British Prime Minister, said that the Balfour Declaration implied that the whole of Palestine, including Transjordan, should become a Jewish state, but in 1922 it had been taken illegally by the Hashemite ruler, Abdullah which was later called Jordan.  During all the attack on Israel after declaring itself a state, Jordan had invaded and annexed it illegally.  The UN did not call them on it.  That was one state created out of the Jewish Homeland already.   Abdullah had taken 77% -80% of the landmass of the original Mandate for the Jews.  He set up an Arab Kingdom.

 There are already 57 Muslim majority countries in the world and 22 of them are right in the Middle East: Egypt, Jordan, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Turkey, Sudan, Algeria, Morocco, Yemen, Libya, Kuwait, Oman,  Bahrain, Qatar, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates.  Now Arabs living in the land and others who came in looking for work are calling themselves Palestinian Arabs.  Jews who lived there were called Palestinian Jews.  The Arabs want to create a state and call it Palestine but they have been refusing every offer made since 1947.

17,000,000 Arabs live on 1,290,000 square miles while Palestine, after losing the 76% of land to Transjordan has been decimated to having only 8,000 square miles.  In 1967 Israel picked up what Jordan had taken of Samaria, Judah, East Jerusalem and Golan through winning against a gigantic Arab attack.  The proposals would have taken the 10,000 square miles they had and reduced it by 1/2 for Palestine to be carved out of it.  UNSCOP wanted to eliminate the Western Galilee from the Jewish state which would have meant taking Safed, my city which had been Jewish since time memorial.  It was the center of Kabballah.

In 1947 talk was If another state is to taken out of the remainder of the Jewish state, the Jews would be getting only 1/8th of their original promised Homeland.  Originally, their Israel and Judah had covered more space than this original allotted Jewish Homeland  including Trans Jordan was to be, but the Jews accepted the deal  called Resolution 181 or the Partition Plan and the Arabs refused.  this was a non-binding RECOMMENDATION  WHOSE IMPLEMENTATION HUNG ON ACCEPTANCE BY BOTH PARTIES.  Not only did the Arabs refuse but they threatened bloodshed if the UN adopted the Resolution.  This scared Britain since the Arabs proposed to attack and impede its work in every possible way.    This means that Resolution 181 was rejected by the Arab world.   Not only that, but it was the last straw.

Before that were many other recommendations from the Mandate people and other international commissions.
1. 1922:  Great Britain partitioned Palestine; Arabs wanted the whole country to be Arab.
2. 1937  Peel Commission
3. 1938 Woodhead Commission
4. 1946  Two proposals championed a bi-national state,
            a. Anglo-American Committee of Inquiry, April- single state with equal powers
            b. Morrison-Grady Plan, July - federal state with 2 provinces

The Arabs rejected them all.

Now they want to divide and conquer.  They won't recognize Israel as the Jewish state and their charters all call to destroy Israel.  when Resolution 181 was read in the General Assembly of the UN, each Arab country spoke from the dais to sound off their rejections.  Iraq's Mr. Jamali said the decision was anti-democratic, illegal, impractical and contrary to the Charter (?) and Iraq doesn't recognize the validity of this decision and those who pass it are responsible for the consequences.  Syria's Amir. Arslan  said that the charter was murdered and his country would never recognize the partition, and the consequences were on the heads of others, not theirs.  Yemen's Prince Abdullah said that the partition plan is contrary to justice and to the UN Charter (?).  They did not feel bound by such a decision and would reserve its freedom of action towards it.  All the others were of the same mind.

 Israel was created May 14, 1948 through a UN vote  and within seconds was attacked by all the Arabs in a bloody war..  3 days later, the Palestine Commission adjourned sine die without picking a date after the General Assembly appointed a UN Mediator in Palestine, which relieves the UN Palestine Commission from the further exercise of its responsibilities.  181 then became a moot issue.  The establishment of an armistice-line (the "Green Line") was just a temporary ceasefire line expected to be followed by peace treaties.  No peace treaties were signed.  Since Israel was later attacked in 1956, 1967, 1973, etc. to this day, one wonders about peace treaties since states change hands, thus politics.  Egypt had a peace treaty signed by Sadat in 1979 after the 1973 war.  It's still in effect.  Jordan has a peace treaty signed October 26, 1994, still in effect.

By July 30, 1949 it was seen that the Arabs rejected the scheme entirely.  Armistice agreements were reached after much fighting between Israel and Egypt, Lebanon, Syria and Trans-Jordan with the help of UN Mediator, Dr. Ralph Bunche.  By now the UN had abandoned the recommendations of Resolution 181 and its ideas "were drained of all relevance by subsequent events."  The Arabs continued to reject 181 after the war.  This was possibly because they controlled Judea and Samaria (West Bank) from 1948 to 1967 when they, including  Jordan,  again attacked Israel.

Now, the Arabs are trying to revive Resolution 181.  For over 60 years they have rejected it and are now trying to bring it to life to use as a leverage to  make Israel withdraw from Western Palestine so they can attack the rest of Israel easier because  it would have no defensive borders.

Professor Sir Elihu Lauterpacht of Cambridge, Judge ad hoc of the International Court of Justice and renowned expert on international law said that from a legal standpoint, the Resolution 181 had no legislative character to give territorial rights to either Jews or Arabs.  Any binding force would have had to come from the principle pacta sunt servanda, or treaties must be honored.  This would be from agreement of the parties at variance to the proposed plan.  The right of a State to exist come from its factual existence.  When that existence is prolonged it shows every sign of continuance and is recognized by the generality of nations.

Professor Julius Stone, authority on the law of Nations, " one of the world’s best-known authorities in both Jurisprudence and International Law. His publications his activities and the many honours conferred on him are eloquent evidence of his high standing in these two fields.said that Israel's "legitimacy" or "legal foundation" for its birth does not reside with the UN Partition Plan, which as a consequence of Arab actions became a dead issue."

  He then said that its validity rests on assertion of independence by its people and government, on the vindication of that independence by arms against assault by other states, and on the establishment of orderly government within territory under its stable control.

He just described Israel.  This is a legal state, not matter how you look at it.  For a variety of reasons, it again lives.

Three Palestines in the Making

Instead of pushing for a democracy, Britain pushed for a monarchy and helped establish Jordan as one in 1923.  They felt they owed Emir Abdullah (1882-20 July 1951), 2nd son of the Sherif Hussein bin Ali,of Saudi Arabia, who asked to be a king for his fighting help in WWI.  After all, he had been a part of the Ottoman Empire legislature's ruling class.  The Brits understand things like that.   Abdullah was pretty clever having been educated in Turkey. He talked his father into become the Grand Sherif of Mecca.  He became the King of Transjordan.

  Britain had also made a deal with Jews through the Balfour Doctrine at the same time who also had helped Britain and her allies to win the war with their fighters, but mostly by Chaim Weizmann's invention of increasing the capacity of their weaponry.  Britain had also taken on the responsibility of creating the Jewish Homeland, something decided through the League of Nations that was signed in agreement by all the countries in the world at that time by accepting the mandate.

Jordan became the pet project of Britain which was under the rule of King Abdullah and assisted them in many ways.  Britain trained military units of Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Iraq, the Persian Gulf states and Jordan, but Jordan held special status with them and saw to it that they continued the special British pattern well after WWII.  It was British officers who directed Jordanian military and paramilitary units.  Perhaps with Britain's off-stage help, King Hussein and his Royal Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan have managed to survive since Britain acted as their tutor.

Britain had made a private commitment to assist them.  They helped to establish after WWI the Jordanian border patrol which led to create the Royal Jordanian Guard and Arab Legion under Glubb Pasha.  Britain was looking out for their own interests since the oil pipelines from Kirkuk and a later Trans-Arabian Pipe Line from Saudi Arabia put Jordan in the right position for oil exports.  It was also strategically in the  right spot to help Britain defend the Suez Canal and Red Sea zone.  Jordan helped them carry out their Palestinian mandate that way, they told themselves.  This desert kingdom was a very special British client and of  high importance to the British foreign office.

In 1948, the UN had tried to get the Arabs to accept their partition of Palestine and establish their own state like Israel was doing, but the Arabs refused, intending to take all of Palestine eventually, not settle for half of it.  It's possible the Brits were backing off from seeing the   Palestinians create  a Palestinian state headed by the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem,  Mohammad Amin al-Husayni, born in Jerusalem in 1893, son of the Mufti of Jerusalem, the richest and most powerful clan in the Ottoman Empire. He was an Arab who was from the land for several generations.    "In the lead-up to the 1948 War against Israel, Husseini opposed both the 1947 UN Partition Plan and King Abdullah's designs to annex the Arab part of British Mandatory Palestine to Jordan.  He and King Abdullah were related to each other but opponents.  

The Grand Mufti, Al-Husseini,  was a new militant Palestinian Arab with nationalism in his being which was a new feeling among the Arabs.  Once he was in power, he began a campaign of terror and intimidation against all opposed to his rule and policies.  He killed Jews at every opportunity, and also eliminated Arabs who didn't support his violence.  He wouldn't negotiate or make any kind of compromise in the name of peace. He later went on to make pacts with Hitler against the Jews.    

Originally the UN had planned to make Jerusalem an international city, but King Abdullah I of Jordan went ahead and on his own without anyone's permission, annexed half of Jerusalem and all of the Palestinian highlands many call the West Bank, which are part of the original Jewish lands of Israel and Judah of which Samaria was the capital and surrounding land of Israel after the creation of Judah and was part and parcel of their promised Jewish Homeland.  When the king did this illegal act, the UN just looked the other way.  By doing this, he had added this fertile land of the West Bank of the Jordan River to his Hashemite Kingdom and more importantly,  increased the population of Jordan by one million people.

Now Jordan became physically very close to the new state of Israel since the border between the two was a haphazardly drawn one in the countryside and the streets and alleys of Jerusalem.

Two-thirds of the population of Jordan were now Palestinians.  There was a difference between them and the Bedouin Arabs, nomadic desert dwellers,  who lived on the East Bank of the Jordan River, for the Palestinians  were better educated and more politically aware of their position.  The Palestinian Arabs saw how King Abdullah manipulated and took land and they then thought how they could do the same thing.  So in July 1951, one of the Palestinians assassinated King Abdullah while he was in the Mosque of Aqsa in Jerusalem.  This was a case of jealousy of what Jordan's king had accomplished and he and his people coveted it.  After, all, there was this class difference between them, and they couldn't let nomads take over and be so successful.

Talal, Abdullah's son stepped into the kingship position but then abdicated due to illness which allowed his 18 year old son, Hussein to become king.  He had his hands full of strife between the Palestinian Arabs and the Jordanian Bedouins.  Then Nasser of Egypt rose to power,  and everyone thought he would overpower the Israelis so that they could take over their land.  Hussein found his position was not that easy and decided not to join the United Arabs or make peace with Israel without being dethroned by his angry coveting subjects.  He became afraid of being attacked by the UAR (United Arab Republic) which would be the open door for Israel to get their West Bank back.  At the same time, Hussein was taking money for military and economic aid from the USA which the Palestinian Arabs resented but without it, couldn't stay in power for long.

The Iraqis had a revolution in 1958, putting Hussein in more danger.  He cried out to his friend, Britain and 2,000 British troops came to protect Jordan against the other Arab nations.

The Arabs of UAR (heads of the Arab States) met in Cairo in 1964 and approved making the Palestinians a political entity and called them the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO).  This was a conglomeration of factions with the biggest being Fatah under Yasser Arafat who became their leader.  Others were the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), and the Democratic Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DPELP).  The Arab nations supported them by giving the PLO the funds to work with.  Most all the Palestinians were actually living right in Jordan which made 2 armies within its borders; one led by King Hussein and the other by Arafat.

This made Jordan the staging area for the many attacks on Israel's land, just like Gaza assumed today.  This resulted in Israeli retaliations, of course.  There was a Palestinian village called Karameh on the east bank of the Jordan River that had become a terrorist stronghold. In March 1968 Israel retaliated and hit it resulting in the UN blaming Israel but not the Palestinians who were attacking Israelis from there.  The Arabs used this "blame the victim" as a cause celebre, a psychological and a military victory for the PLA who were defending the village.  Now the PLO's prestige skyrocketed and this led to more of the same; airplane heists, political murders like killing the Israeli athletes in the 1976 Munich Olympics.  The Palestinian Arabs now concluded that only a disaster or an armed confrontation would make Europeans and Americans feel sorry for them.  Violent deeds were the key to their success!

The world didn't really seem to join their thinking so they went onto 1970's Black September in Jordan. It was then that King Hussein had had enough of their free-wheeling control of Amman, his capital.  They had actually taken over Jordan, he felt.  The king had the superior armed forces and the assistance of Britain and the USA.  Syria and Egypt were silent, so he went about crushing the PLO leadership.  In the act, hundreds of Palestinians were killed  and thousands fled to Lebanon and Syria.  The king had decided to win back his kingship powers and he closed the door to anymore cooperation with them.

At any rate, the Arabs of the Middle East again attacked Israel on their most sacred holy day, a day when they were fasting and attending a whole day in the synagogue asking G-d for forgiveness, Yom Kippur in October 1973.  Israel begged Jordan not to join in, but they weakened and wound up playing a rather passive role this time.  This angered Egypt and Syria who also held against King Hussein the fact that he played an active part in crushing the Marxist-Leninist Dhofari uprising against the Sultan of Oman so why didn't he fight more against Israel!

 A Rabat Conference was held in October 1974 making the sole rep of the Palestinians conferred upon Arafat.  Arafat, now with too much confidence, pleaded brazenly in the UN in November 1974. He wound up with observer status for his state he had not yet accepted.

 Arafat in 1983 tried to consider a possible federation of a joint Palestine-Jordan state. Hussein weakened by going along with the PLO status and like the others, condemned Sadat of Egypt for visiting Jerusalem  in 1977 and the Camp David Accords of 1979.

 This was following the Beirut and Tripoli evacuations. However, even today when approached about taking more Palestinians into his country, the King of Jordan is adamant against the idea.   There are so many Palestinians living in Jordan that it is actually a monarchy run by the Beduin Hashemite kingdom with a population of 5 million mostly Palestinian Arabs.  Today's King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein  has married a Palestinian girl, now called Queen Rania Al Abdullah.

Jordan has been a dependent state since its inception.   The Arab states have been conferring $1.25 billion annually since 1978 but decreased it to $850 million in 1983.    He is trapped and can't act on his own freely.  It's been dependent on the USA militarily for arms.  56 US senators signed a resolution against selling arms to Jordan finally because it has been an enemy of Israel.  Politically, he has been caught between Israel and Syria, one of the major Israel attackers in 73.  Syria gets its weapons from Russia and Israel gets theirs from the USA.

Today, Arafat has been replaced by Abbas of Fatah (formerly called the PLO). He is dickering with Israel and has pledged to stay in for 9 months of talks.  His goal is to create Palestine out of Judah and Samaria and Jerusalem.

We still have his other half left to deal with, the rest of the Palestinians led by Hamas, a declared terrorist group who have sworn never to make peace and who constantly shoot rockets, mortars and missiles into southern Israel, Eilat and anyplace their weapons can reach so far.  

Only a handful of the original Arabs were from Palestine.  Most all came into the area from the surrounding lands looking for work in the 1880's when Jews from Russia came, escaping pogroms and wishing to return to their roots.  Arabs were scarce in the land when  Mark Twain and his contingent toured the Middle East. in  February, 1867.  The average Arab considered themselves to be Syrian Arabs.  They had no burning desire or need for a state of their own, only decent wages.

As Theodore H. White put it, to understand what is happening in the Middle East is to begin with its past.  Joan Peters, in her research, has traced the history to the present with unmatched skill.  I'm afraid this has not been a strong requirement for government involvement from any other country dealing with the peace table and Israel and the Palestinians.  Without in-depth knowledge, drastic mistakes have already been assumed as far as I can see.  Where many men of the West haven't clamored for political positions of ruling, it seems that there is no end to men who have yearned for this position in the East.

Israel is looking at a next door neighbor already made up of Palestinians, a new one taking over the original Jewish lands of belonging to Israel and Judah and a despicable enemy in Gaza who will never make peace.  That's 3 Palestine states!  .  How secure can Israel become against this horde?  For the creation of a state means more money to create more weapons and even more voice in the UN than they have now.  It means the peacock will have brighter feathers and will attract more than the Palestinians number today being they want to take in all other Palestinians who have settled elsewhere.  For Israelis, this should be a nightmare.  There has been no regard among the advisers to alter the hateful attitude of any of the Palestinians.  All they teach is that they will take over Israel and that Jews of Israel are the enemy and are terrible people.  There can be no "peace" between two different people this way.

The Jewish Homeland was originally to include land east and west of the Jordan River.  Israel has had to see it chopped apart where they have received 20% of the original promised land, and now they are expected to give up  land again to the attackers that was Israel's  in the first place won back after being brutally attacked in the 1967 war.  To reward people who attack you with the land they covet just to see you destroyed is a first in this world.  It could only happen to Israel because they are a Jewish country and have been vilified by the losers of the many battles that have gone on since 1948.

Sealed Deal for Jewish Homeland from League of Nations

Jews began immigrating (making aliyah) to Palestine in large numbers in 1882.  At the time fewer than 250,000 Arabs lived there.  Mark Twain visited earlier and saw very few.

WWI was fought from July 28, 1914 to November 11, 1918 and Woodrow Wilson and others said they had fought to make the world safe for democracy.  They had a Paris Peace Conference and later, in the League of Nations, France and England were given mandated powers over the region held by the Ottoman Empire to prepare it for self-government of the Middle East.

At the beginning of the war, part of Palestine's land was owned by absentee landlords who lived in Cairo, Damascus and Beirut.  Almost 80% of the Arabs were debt-ridden peasants, semi-nomads and Bedouins.  It was proposed that since the natives of the Fertile Crescent were not yet prepared to govern themselves, Britain and France would be given these mandatory powers over the region in order to get it ready for self-government.

We can see that today, Palestine is dependent on donations from their neighboring Arab states.  They cannot pay their electric bills to Israel.  They have no economy.  All their resources and talents have gone into bomb-making.

So back at the end of WWI, Jews did not care to purchase land in areas where Arabs might be displaced.  They bought land that was uncultivated, swampy, cheap and without tenants.

The Balfour Declaration of 1917 was written by Lord Balfour agreeing to a Jewish Homeland.  What he promised was eventually reduced to 20% of the original piece which the Jews accepted.  Palestinians did not.

The Sykes-Picot Agreement of September 1919 involved Britain and France.  It concerned "Palestine" which had been held by the loser, the Ottoman Empire which was Turkey.  The problem was settled in the San Remo Conference on April 24, 1920 when Britain was given the mandate over Palestine.  They implemented the Balfour Declaration declaring a Jewish Homeland.

Palestinian Arabs did not view themselves as having separate identity.  When the First Congress of Muslim-christian Associations met in Jerusalem in February 1919 to choose Palestinian representatives for the Paris Peace conference, they said, "We consider Palestine as part of Arab Syria, as it has never been separated from it at anytime.  We are connected with it by national, religious, linguistic, natural, economic and geographical bonds."

In 1920, Labor Zionist lead David Ben-Gurion was concerned about the Arab fellahin, someone he thought was the most important asset of the native population.  He said that under no circumstances must we touch land belonging to them or worked by them.  He wanted to liberate them from their oppressors.  "Only if a fellah leaves his place of settlement," he added, "should we offer to buy his land at an appropriate price." David became the first Prime Minister and Defense Minister.

Arabs wanted to sell to the Jews because of the migration to coastal towns and because they needed money to invest in the citrus industry.  By 1944, Jews paid from $1,000 and $1,100 per acre in Palestine or arid or semi-arid land when in Iowa land was selling for $110 per acre.  Transjordan's King Abdullah wrote that Arabs are as prodigal in selling their land as they are in useless wailing and weeping.  Jewish holdings in Palestine amounted to about 463,000 acres.  About 45,000 of these were from the mandatory government; 30,000 were bought from churches and 387,500 were bought from Arabs.  Many leaders of the Arab nationalist movement, including the Muslim Supreme Council, sold land to Jews.  Arabs entered the land from neighboring lands in the past 90 years in order to find work.  When the Jews came, they followed.

Eighty-five years later, in a 2002 interview with The New Statesman, British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw observed "A lot of the problems we are having to deal with now, I have to deal with now, are a consequence of our colonial past. .. ..The Balfour Declaration and the contradictory assurances which were being given to Palestinians in private at the same time as they were being given to the Israelis – again, an interesting history for us but not an entirely honourable one.

It is now, today, that Arabs call Jews "transplants" among other ugly adjectives.  They didn't think of nationalism and state-building until 1967 when they lost a mass attack against Israel and they lost face as well as land.  They forget that the land has always had Jews in it living among the Arab villages.  Not everyone was taken away as slaves, transplanted by rulers or were driven out by 70 CE.  .  A remnant of our past remained for a reminder.  We cannot forget Jerusalem because of giving our word to the one G-d that we wouldn't.  Though international law clinches when we regained our land again, our religious law had us take the land with instructions from Moses as to just how much and where and why.

The Conclusion is all the same: the Jewish people have been betrayed many times over by the Nations of the world who do not abide by their own agreements that they have themselves formulated while continuing to do so and them being the reason behind many baseless wars where so many innocent live were lost

Britain's 30 Year Rule in Palestine

At the end of World War I of 1918, Britain and France were given the Mandates to rule in the Middle East that had fallen, the Ottoman Empire. They had been on the side of the Germans who  lost.   Britain was given a 30 year mandate to rule over Palestine.  They had their army in Palestine and fought against the Germans in the war.

The Balfour Doctrine had already been issued on November 2, 1917, by the British foreign secretary Arthur James Balfour, declaring that the British government favor "the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people, and will use their best endeavors to facilitate the achievement of this object...the result of long negotiations started by Chaim Weizmann and others.  Balfour had been strongly impressed by the personality and Zionist philosophy of Weizmann.  He remained a man outspokenly devoted to the Zionist ideal.  

The area was defined originally as from the Mediterranean Sea to the Jordan River.  It had included what is today, Jordan.  It was later defined  in the Franco-British Boundary Agreement 1920 and the Transjordan memorandum of 16 September 1922, during the mandate period. Today, the region comprises the country of Israel and the Palestinian territories. 

Jews had created a Jewish National Fund at the 5th Zionist Congress of 1901 started by Theodor Herzl to collect money to buy land in Palestine.  They were then starting to buy land by 1921.  There were already established Jewish communities in Palestine by Jews since King David's day.

It wasn't until April 24, 1920 that it was formally decided in San Remo that Britain should administer Palestine and be responsible for the implementation of the Balfour Declaration.  Then by July 24, 1922, the Mandate was finally approved by the League of Nations meeting in London.  They were to give recognition to the historical connection of the Jewish people with Palestine and to the grounds for reconstituting their national home in that country.  The Zionist organization was recognized as the Jewish Agency.

In 1922 nearly 80% of the land that was designated to be the Jewish Homeland was later given  to the Arabs by the British.  It became Transjordan and Jews were barred from there.  The 20% left was divided into 2 states, one for the Arabs who refused it and one for the Jews who accepted it.  Their Palestine is to have no Jews living in it (Judenrein) but Israel has 1.4 million Arabs as citizens. 

The British had installed Emir Faisal, who had been deposed by the French in Syria, as ruler of the new kingdom of Iraq.  Then in 1922 the British created the emirate of Transjordan on land that was to be the Jewish Homeland.  This was done for Emir Abdullah, who was upset because his family had been defeated in some tribal warfare on the Arabian peninsula and wanted a kingdom to rule.

Jews had never left Jerusalem.  The development of this very Jewish capital was interrupted by World War I and the population fell to 50,000.  In December of 1917 it was occupied by the British General Allenby, head of the British army.   The British were quick to issue several White Papers, limiting Jewish immigration to Palestine, but by 1946 the population reached 165,000 of which 100,000 were Jews.  Hebrew University was built on Mt. Scopus.

Arabs rioted in 1922, 1929, 1936 and 1939 which killed many of the Jewish populations which only brought about more building and consolidations.  By 1948 Jerusalem  was divided into 2 parts, Israel in the West and the Arabs in the East.  Israel was able to liberate the East at the end of the 1967 War when they took down the barrier and made the city whole again.  In 1980 Israel extended Israel sovereignty over the entire city with "The Jerusalem Law."

Hebron was an ancient Jewish town of Judah, 18 miles south of Jerusalem.  Abraham had bought the Cave of Machpelah in Hebron in order to bury his wife, Sarah. Today a mosque stands on the reputed site.  In 1929 the Arabs massacred many of the 700 Jews living in the town and the remainder were injured and fled.  About 30 Jewish families returned in 1931.  Riots from Muslims broke out again in 1936 and again the Jews fled.  The population in 1967 was 38,310.  After the 1967 Six Day War Jews returned to settle, establishing the Kiryat Arba quarter east of the city.  There were 3,700 in 1988.  Arabs have taken over Hebron.

The British failed to protect the Jewish communities from Arab mobs in and  after the Arab riots in May 1921. They then appointed the Haycraft Commission to investigate the cause of the violence, where they concluded that the Arabs had been the aggressors.  They rationalized that the cause was a feeling they had of discontent and hostility towards  the Jews and connected the Jewish immigration with the problem, so they then banned Jewish immigration.  


The Hope Simpson Report of 1930 showed the British allowed untold numbers of Arabs to enter the territory, even saying that "it does a certain injustice to the Jewish immigrant outside whose place is taken by the traveller, concerned. " It was full of facts showing that Arab immigration was being allowed.  They entered Palestine without formality of any kind.  They could leave the road before reaching the frontier and they took  footpaths over the hills so as not to be counted.  

With Jordan's illegal annexation of Judea and Samaria (West Bank) in 1950, the Arabs controlled about 80% of the territory of the Mandate, while the Jewish State held a bare 17.5%.  Gaza, occupied by Egypt, was the remainder.  So much for the British who were to bring about the Jewish Homeland.

As found in previous postings in this blog, the British doing the administrating were not favoring the Jews at all.  They favored the Arabs in many ways and did many things to deter immigration and settlement of the Jews in Palestine, even to the point of instigating the Arabs to riot against the Jews.    It continued right up to the time of their departure on May 14, 1948.  Arab immigration was allowed by the British when Jews before and after the Holocaust could not get in by their rules.  Their behavior was disgraceful.

How Britain Took Away the Jewish Homeland

The Balfour Doctrine had established the Jewish Homeland perimeters which was coming about at the end of World War I.  Chaim Weizmann had helped the British win the war by his invention in organic chemistry by fermenting acetone-butyl, used in bombs.   Without it, they most likely would have lost.  This is one reason why Britain was going along with the creation of the Homeland in Palestine.

Colonial Secretary Winston Churchill then turned around and rewarded Sherif Hussein's son, Abdullah for his contribution to the war against Turkey in 1921.  Churchill installed him as Emir and took away nearly 4/5 of Palestine, 35,000 square miles, to create Transjordan.  Britain had already given the Hejaz and Arabia to the Saud family, so this was the consolation prize for the Hussein family.  The kingdom of Hejaz and Nejd was unified in Saudi Arabia on 23 Sept, 1932 by King Abdul Aziz al-Saud though he had started to take it in 1902.  Its area is 870,000 square miles.

1922 was the year that 80% of what was the historic land of Palestine and the Jewish National Home as defined by the League of Nations was given away to become Transjordan by the British.

Knowing that the Jews were to establish their homeland, the cold-blooded British placed restrictions on Jewish land purchases in what remained of Palestine, going against the provision of the Mandate in Article 6 that said, "the Administration of Palestine...shall encourage, in cooperation with the Jewish Agency...close settlement by Jews on the land, including State lands and wastelands not acquired for public purposes." 


By 1949 the British had allotted 87,500 acres of the 187,500 acres of cultivable land to Arabs and only 4,250 to Jews.  They had limited the absorptive capacity of Palestine by partitioning the country.   Less than a million people lived in an area that now supports more than six million.  


In 1915 about 83,000 Jews lived in Palestine along with 590,000 Muslim and Christian Arabs.  The British immigration restrictions on Jews went against the hopes for them while Arabs were allowed to enter freely.  By 1922, the Jewish population was 84,000 while the Arabs numbered 643,000.  In 1935, when conditions started to become bad for German Jews due to Nazis, the British then cut the quota  by 1/3.  


Arab demands were given attention by the White Paper in 1939, the height of Nazi persecution in Germany. This is when my uncle came to New York.  The Paper said that an Arab state would be created within 10 years and Jewish immigration was to be limited to 75,000 for the next 5 years, and then it would stop altogether.  Jews could not buy land in 95% of the territory of Palestine.  Arabs were not about to create their own state, but they were allowed to immigrate without restrictions.   The Hope Simpson Commission from London found that the 1929 Arab riots came from ignoring the illegal Arab immigration from Egypt,.  Transjordan and Syria and that this displaced the Jewish immigrants.  


Jews couldn't enter Palestine for the length of World War II when they were being gassed by Nazis.  Even after the war, the British refused to allow the survivors to find sanctuary in Palestine.  On June 6, 1946, President Truman urged the British to relieve the suffering of the Jews in displaced persons camps in Europe and accept 100,000 Jewish immigrants.  Ernest Bevin, the Foreign Minister, answered sarcastically that the USA wanted displaced Jews to immigrate to Palestine "because they did not want too many of them in New York."  


Some Jews got to Palestine anyway on old leaky ships that the members of the Jewish resistance organizations smuggled in.  Between August 1945 and May 14, 1948, 65 "illegal" immigrant ships, carrying 69,878 people arrived from European shores.  The British caught on in August 1946 and caught 50,000 and interned them in camps in Cyprus. 28,000 were still imprisoned when Israel declared independence on May 14, 1948.   There were 600,000 Jews in Israel by the time  it was again a state in 1948.  


It is truly a shunda that Britain broke their promise to the League of Nations and did not uphold their responsibility of creating the Jewish Homeland, but instead gave most all the land away to the Arabs and kept Jews from entering the country.  There must be a special section in the Book of Life for that.  They could take the responsiblity of the 6 million murdered in the Holocaust along with the Nazis.

The Real Issue Between Israel and Palestine: Wanting Peace, Not Israel Building a Few Homes

Get this, folks.  Israel's length, from north to south, is only 263 miles.  The width of Oregon is just under 400 miles.  In width, Israel at the widest is 71 miles and the narrowest section is only 9.3 miles.  Just to get from Gresham, Oregon to Ladds Addition in Portland is 12 miles and takes me about 1/2 hour of slow driving.  Israel is not very big and is made of only 7,992 square miles.  Texas has 268,820 square miles and is about 33 times larger than  Israel. or still 26 times larger than a "Greater Israel."  Nobody was more shocked at the size than President Bush when he visited Israel.  He commented that his ranch was larger. 

Judea and Samaria have 2,270 square miles.  East Jerusalem has 27 square miles and is now united with the rest of the city. The Palestinians are demanding it as their capital.  Being they still refuse to recognize Israel and have a charter that calls for Israel's destruction, it won't be long until they try to take over all of Jerusalem.  The Golan Heights have 444 square miles.  Gaza has 140 square miles. Israel has already departed from Gaza but with its close proximity to Israel and the attacks from there, must guard it from gaining more weapons.  It has proven itself to be a most deadly neighbor.   

The League of Nations, the original United Nations, voted for a National Home for Jews and set aside 45,560 square miles on both sides of the Jordan River for this in 1922.  The USA voted yes for this on September 21, 1922 in both houses, and President Warren Harding signed it.

Yet, Britain, given the mandate over the land,had also  lopped off 3/4 of the area; 34,745 miles, which turned out to be the entire East Bank of the river Jordan and gave it to the Emir Abdullah, son of the Sherif of Mecca who called it Transjordan on April 11, 1921.  The population living there were 300,000 Beduins.  They were part of the population of the province of Syria which was part of the Ottoman Empire.  Thus, Britain perfidiously betrayed their mandate and despoiled the Jewish nation of 77% of its territory.

Abdullah was the Hashemite Emir and came to "Palestine" from the Arabian desert in November 1920.  He took the lands in 1921 and called it Transjordan, leaving the Arabs on the Western Bank nothing more than the name-Palestine.  He and his grandson, Hussein, erased the name "Palestine" and changed the name to Jordan in 1946 -"The Hashemite kingdom of Jordan."  In 1948 the people became "Jordanians."   Jordan is made of  35,637 square miles. 

It was only after 1967 that the people of Jordan started calling themselves Palestinians again, possibly because so many had moved there and the King Hussein married a Palestinian, in reality Lisa Najeeb Halaby who was born and raised in the USA and had had a paternal grandfather who was Syrian.  They married on June 15, 1978 and she converted to Islam and was called Queen Noor, becoming his 3rd or 4th wife. Jordan signed a peace treaty with Israel on October 26, 1994 to end an $18.3 billion dollar conflict, becoming the 2nd Arab state to do so after Egypt.   Jordanians had gone daily into Israel to work there.  Jordan has said that they do not want any more Palestinians to come into their country. 

Is a Palestinian state a solution for peace or is it a recipe for a most cruel war?

A Palestinian state would be 2,500 square miles in area, or 1/4 of the original 1/4 of Palestine.  Like Gaza has done, it will be a Muslim Brotherhood type state, with the goal to extinguish Israel, especially with Egypt's new government led by the Muslim Brotherhood.  They already honor those who have fought against Israel by naming things and places after them.  Right now Gaza is practicing a campaign of attrition by shooting rockets, missiles and mortars into southern Israel.  Stockpiles of weapons are known to be in Lebanon.  Hamas and Fatah have united with Hamas holding to the Muslim Brotherhood Charter calling for the destruction of Israel. 

A Palestine would become the 49th Muslim majority state.  22 of these states belong to the Arab League of which Syria is suspended right now for their actions. A Palestine might then be the 22nd or 23rd.  The 22 states now cover an area of 5,290,888 square miles.  Iraq, Libya and Syria are not treated as a serious problem such as Israel and the Palestinians are.  I don't see any organizations having BDS movements against Syria today. 

Britain's chopping off part of the Jewish Homeland for a "Palestine" left the future Israel with 10,891 square miles and less now on the West Bank of the river.  They were to have only 1/4 of what had been agreed to and voted upon. 

To top this off, the British did their best to keep Jewish immigrants from entering the country while Arabs and other Muslims entered freely from all parts of the Middle East.  Why did they want to move to this "Falastin"?  They could find jobs with the Jewish settlements already there.  Look at their surnames:  Masri (Egyptian), Mugrabi (Moroccan), Turki (Turkish), Ajami (Persian), Haurani (Syrian), Halabi (Aleppan), Kurdi (Kurdish), Hindi (Indian) and others.  There were even Circassian Muslims and Armenian Christians who weren't a part of the Palestinian society that moved to the area. 

WWII started with the Holocaust killing 6 million Jews who had no way of leaving Eastern Europe, but who couldn't have entered into the Jewish Homeland at any rate because all Jewish immigration had been stopped and land couldn't be sold to Jews as the British banned that.  Nobody spoke up for the Jews.  The leftists had no demonstrations.  Nobody cared.

Today, Israel and its Judea and Samaria make up 10,891 square miles.  The Arab League has 5,290,888 square miles.  Are the Arabs short of territory?  Texas is 26 times larger than "Greater Israel."  2,500 square miles of Israel's 1/4th are to become a state called "Palestine." 

There are the 22 Muslim-Arab countries that the 1.5 million Muslim residents of Judea, Samaria and Gaza's "Palestinians" came from that they could return to.  What about the 24 million people who do not have a single country to call their own?  There are 1 million Dr use living in Syria, Lebanon and Israel that would like their own state.  13 million Kurds in Iraq, Turkey, Syria and Iran also need their own.  10 million Christian Arabs in the Middle East live in other lands without being warlike. 

"Territories" and building are not the real issue.  There is ample space for the "Palestinians."  Peace is the issue, and Abbas has just gone over to the Hamas side which stands for Israel's obliteration, not peace.  Who thinks that peace can ever be obtained by squeezing two populations into one single bed that have been at odds with each other for 4,000 years in some form or other?  Perhaps the Bible was right in that everyone needs his own home and under the shade of his own vine.  Jews and Arabs do share the same grandfather,  Abraham.  Only a heart with a goal of peace in it will find that the Middle East can become a Garden of Eden.  The Hamas-Fatah marriage will not do the trick.  Israel wants peace.  It can't create it all by themselves.  It's a two-way street.
