1967 Border Goal For Hamas: UN Declaring Statehood for Fatah

Hamas's goal is to get concessions from Israel.  They want to get as many as possible to achieve their goal found on their founding charter, which is to destroy Israel.  They want Israel to go back to the 1967 border, which Netanyahu has already explained in detail to Obama as to why Israel cannot and will not do that.

This is why Hamas has said that they will not stop arming themselves and want a strong arsenal.  They are not interested in negotiations.  These comments came from Hamas's #2 man, Moussa Abu Marzouk only 3 days after Israel agreed to a ceasefire.

Other demands are that Israel and Egypt lift all restrictions on the movement of goods and people in and out of the Palestinian territory.  They have been under a border blockade sine 2007 when these Hamas terrorists took over Gaza.  They have been eased since then but do not allow their economy to develop, they feel.  Considering that most Palestinians are on the dole from the UN, I don't see a surging economy developing anyway, considering people haven't worked at least since 1948.  That's about 4 generations of non workers.  What skills they had and could have been passed down have probably been lost.

Hamas is under the umbrella of the Muslim Brotherhood, whose charter also calls for Israel's destruction and the death of all Jews everywhere.  Just ask Qatar's Qaradawi.  His fatwa calls for just this.  Hamas now says that they are ready for a long-term cease-fire.  Usually this is when they stock up on provisions for the next go around.

In the meantime, his rival, President Mahmoud Abbas is intent on seeking UN recognition for a state of Palestine this week as a non-member state.  He wants approval of  Judea-Samaria (the West Bank renamed by Jordan), Gaza and EAST JERUSALEM as Palestine.  This would be a take-over without any discussion with Israel whose hands it is in.  These are areas belonging to Israel since the 1967 war.  Israel said it was willing to cede some land.  Israel has already moved 1/2 million Israelis into settlements on war-won land. Remember, Israel is sitting on only 20% of the originally promised Jewish Homeland as promised by the Brits who held the mandate.

What the Arab community wants to ignore is the fact that they all attacked Israel with greedy intent to destroy her.  With all their armies, they could not and they lost the battle they started.  With that in mind, these lands go to Israel.  Jews were living there as well and Jews are still living in Judea-Samaria.  Jerusalem is now one city and is the capital of Israel.  East Jerusalem receives   services from Israel just like the West, North and South of Jerusalem.  It is under much more favorable circumstances ever thought of by the Jordanians.

According to Abu Marzouk, Abbas is wasting his time. He said,   "Occupation needs resistance, not negotiations." His idea of resistance of course is War.   We keep giving away pieces of this for peace and get what in return?  Already Israel is one of the smallest states in the world.  It has 7,951.6 square miles and is almost as big as New Jersey. It would take 12 Israels to fit into Oregon.   Included in this figure is the Golan Heights and East Jerusalem.    Judea-Samaria has 2,270 sq miles.  East Jerusalem has 27 sq miles.   We have taken quite a chance with Morsi as the mediator, a leader of the Muslim Brotherhood who even served time in prison for that under Mubarak.

Understanding the 1949-1967 Lines Involving Israel

The 1949-1967 lines were armistice lines, boundaries of repeated wars,  and not borders recognized by Arab states.  In May 1967, Egypt's President Nasser moved 5 divisions to the Negev border and blocked the Straits of Tiran.  This is Israel's southern waterway.  Blocking it is an act of war under international law. 

Israel responded during the 6 Day War and in doing so took the Sinai, the Golan Heights and the West Bank.  The Golan Heights is where Syria had massed 3 divisions and where they had bombarded Israeli cities for the previous 19 years.  The West Bank (named by Jordan which Israelis call the ancient names of Samaria and Judea) is where guerrilla raids were launched after 1949 and now where Hamas constantly fires missiles, rockets and mortars into southern Israel. 

Since 1967 the Arab states have refused to negotiate directly with Israel, no matter how hard the USA has put pressure on them.  They continue to refuse to recognize Israel's right to exist.  They refuse to normalize relations.  Israel has constantly stated her willingness to return territories and has done so to Egypt. 

In May of 2011, Obama shocked Netanyahu by saying on TV that the borders of Israel and Palestine should be based on the 67 lines and mutually agreed upon swaps.  Netanyahu repeated for the 2nd time that it was an indefensible line.  The reason many think why Netanyahu  was so alarmed is because such a US Policy would be giving the Palestinians land without  conceding any points.  It showed a USA policy shift.  It would be establishing a Palestinian state before any of the issues were resolved that must come first according to the UN Resolutions. 

UN Resolution 242 is from the 1967 period.  Resolution 338 is from 1973.  These both call for all parties to get into direct negotiations and  end all claims of belligerence.  Both are to respect and acknowledge the sovereignty, territorial integrity and political independence of every state in the area and their right to live in peace within secure and recognized boundaries free from threats or acts of force. 

Israel has made it clear that she cannot surrender land vital to security until there is evidence of meaningful Arab accommodation, compromise and conciliation according to the UN resolutions.  You'd think this would have caused the Palestinians to be friendly and cooperative, but they only have increased their shelling of Israel.  After reading the Compact of the Muslim Brotherhood and Qaradowi's, the unofficial leader of the Muslim Brotherhood's Religious Goals and  statements, I can see why Israel has not had a willing partner with the PA.

Peace Initiatives Next Month From Netanyahu and Obama: Which One First? What Do They Include?

The rumor is that Obama may present his own peace plan next month before Netanyahu presents his to the American Congress.  Netanyahu's is going to include some facts about Iran, for one thing.

Obama has been said to present a plan forcing Israel back to their 1967 border.  This is the same border that Israel had from 1949 to the Six Day War of June 5-10, 1967 when Israel won against all odds an enormous attack that was unbelievable.

The United Arab Republic made up of Egypt, Jordan and Syria attacked.  The Arab forces included Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Algeria, Libya, Tunisia, Sudan and the PLO who are the Fatah in Judea and Samaria today.  Egypt had 100,000 troops in the Sinai, all 7 of their division including 950 tanks, 1,100 APC's, and 1,000 artillary pieces.   Syria had 75,000 troops, Jordan had 55,000 troops and 300 tanks.  They had pilots from Pakistan's Air Force volunteering and there was aircraft from Libya, Algeria, Morocco, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia. 

How Israel won was simply a miracle against all this.  Who else would have even dared to try to survive much less win against such insurmountable odds?  Israel was fighting alone for its life.  By winning in these 6 days, they had taken the Gaza Strip, the Sinai Peninsula from Egypt, Judea and Samaria (West Bank as Jordan had called it) and East Jerusalem from Jordan as well.  Jordan never did keep their promises to allow Jews into their holy places before.  They took the 3,000 feet in altitude Golan Heights from Syria which was on the border of Israel .  This had enabled the Syrians to shoot at Israelis below like sitting ducks.
So by forcing Israel to accept this plan, it would mean giving up what they had taken in defense from the worst amassed bullies on Earth.  Israel has already left the Gaza Strip in the act of peace only to be met with daily rockets and missiles as the terrorists attain this weaponry.  Israel gave up the Sinai to Egypt for peace which seemed to have worked well before Mubarek was just forced out.  It doesn't sound like the rebellion will honor any peace pact with Israel now.  More likely the Muslim Brotherhood will have a lot to say, and if they do will be very much against peace with Israel.  Their plan is to destroy Israel.  Giving up the Golan Heights would give Syria the advantage of shooting at Israelis once again, and that might mean with the same kind of weapons that are coming out of Gaza which are being supplied by Iran that are now highly sophisticated and lethal. 

Though the Palestinians have refused to accept Israel as the world's only Jewish State, or talk of any peace situation, Israel would be expected to accept a state of Palestine.  If this is only in Judea or Samaria or if it includes Gaza is not known.  Jerusalem would become divided again and would serve as the capital for both states. 

The only good points for Israel would be that the "Palestinians" would not have the right to return to wherever they fled from.  Israel's security would have to be protected.  It is not known if this is by Israel as it has always been or if there are other forces to be called upon.  Most likely this is just a statement and has not been thought out as yet.

Much is happening in May.  Those for and against Israel will be meeting and speaking.  We'll have to watch for the final outcome.
