Jerusalem: Recent Danger Existing from East Jerusalem

A short news story tells us about a Palestinian living in east Jerusalem, which is populated mainly by Palestinians, who happens to be associated with Hamas terrorists in Gaza.   What he has been doing to help out his cohorts is to use his axe to destroy buildings.  He used it to sabotage places where Jews live by hitting gas lines so that they would explode, cause fires and kill people.  He was finally caught.

A very long time ago Jerusalem was divided into four populated groups; Jewish, Muslim, Christian and Armenian.  Today it is a unified city with no partitions and is the capital of Israel.   Another name for it is "The City of David," for King David of Israel established this city.  David ruled in 1010 BCE to 970 BCE.  His son, King Solomon, lived from 961 BCE to 920 BCE.  There has always been a Jewish presence in Jerusalem.

In 2003 there were 693,217 people living in Jerusalem.
464,527 were Jews.
228,690 were Arabs

In the Old City of Jerusalem there were 3,965 Jews
There were 31,405 Arabs.

In 2011 the total population of Jerusalem was 801,000. (corrected year)
497,000 were Jews.
281,000 were Muslims
14,000 were Christians

• "1967: The Six-Day War results in East Jerusalem being captured by Israel and few weeks later expansion of the Israeli Jerusalem Municipality to East Jerusalem and some surrounding area. The Old City is captured, or rather-liberated  by the IDF.  Israel declares Jerusalem unified and announces free access to holy sites of all religions."  Until 1967, Jordan had control as it had taken 80% of the Jewish Homeland awarded by the League of Nations illegally.  Being they sided with the other Arab nations in the 1967 attack and lost, Israel won it back.  From 1948 to 1967, Israel had not been able to come to the Wall, which is such a big part of the Jewish history.  At the same time, Moshe Dyan had given the Temple Mount to the Arabs to control, a very big gesture of peace.  The Temple Mount is sitting on top of the 2nd Temple site, also most important to Jews.

• The Mayor of Jerusalem is Nir Barkat who is very much against dividing the city.  The Palestinians want to make it their capital.  Their idea of a state is one that has not one Jew in it.  That of course would mean that all Jews would have to move out of east Jerusalem.  Jews would not be able to gain entrance to the wall or other Jewish religious sites in this area.  This part of the city would be completely cut off from the rest.  As it is, Israel is helping the Arabs of Judea and Samaria in many ways already as they are not financially capable of standing on their own, even for utilities.

Israel Still in 1st Place as Scapegoat of World-UN: 6 out of 10 Resolutions Against Her

Usually Israel gets 10 condemnations but this year, only 6, which is way too much when you look at what's going on in other places on this planet. However, they must be making progress.   Of course, it's mostly all up to Ban Ki-moon, South Korean and  Secretary General of the UN,  as to how the UN doles these out. Ban Ki-moon will be head until December 31, 1916.  He's on his 2nd term in this position.   To understand why Israel is singled out and a thorn in the UN's side, you must look at the makeup of the UN groups who decide such things.  The vote went something like this:

   7 NO (Australia, Canada, Micronesia, Israel, Marshal Islands, Palau, United States)
 59 abstentions

The UN General Assembly voted against Israel with 6 resolutions.  They had their usual show of contempt and bias that they use to judge Israel.  I feel silly using the term with the UN, but what they do is showing the ultimate anti-Semitism/anti-Israel against Israel.  Knowing the facts involved, I cannot come to any other conclusion; that and stupidity.

Everything centers around the 1967 War.  This is when Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, along with Iraq, Algeria, Kuwait, Sudan and the whole Arab nations  attacked Israel and Israel not only won but got back the places that were to belong to her according to the Balfour Doctrine of which the whole League of Nations had signed naming this all as the Jewish National Home.  It was Jordan who helped herself to the sites of Judea and Samaria, East Jerusalem and Syria had the Golan Heights from where they bombed Israel.   Note how slimy the wording is about how the Palestinians are injured by the reclaiming of this land by Israel which has harmed them.

You must then forget that those in Gaza, called the Hamas terrorists, haven't stopped attacking Israel with mortars, rockets and missiles.  You must forget that Fatah in Judea and Samaria  are also the new PLO terrorists who are just slightly better than Hamas is, but who have supplied many a suicide bomber and such to harm Israel, causing the wall to have to be built.

Then you must remember that the Palestinians are being used as pawns to try to win back land that they couldn't by war, so they're using this type of scheming; Jewish land, land of our fathers in our history, Jerusalem, built by King David, a Jewish King.

You also must remember that by international law the places spoken of have law on Israel's side; that Israel has rights to it  both old and new by any law.

You must remember that there never was a country of Palestine.  The Palestinians are what Americans would call poachers.  They came in from surrounding territories to find work in the first place.  They didn't even think of wanting this land.  It was the Arab leaders who thought this one up and sold them on the idea.

The 4 resolutions not on Israel are on Syria, Iran, North Korea and Myanmar.  Each of those were only worthy of one condemnation each.  Note that Syria has murdered at least 120,000 of its own people and was using chemical warfare on the last group when Russia finally had to intercede and stop Assad.  So what sins has Israel committed that can top that, pray tell?

We also see that abuses committed by China, Cuba, Egypt, Pakistan, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Zimbabwe pale in comparison to the 4 ranking countries and definitely to Israel. They never were mentioned but we know have committed insults and injury  to the very idea of Human Rights.

  Wanting a nuclear-weapon-free world-risk of nuclear proliferation in the Middle East

    India, Israel and Pakistan are to sign promptly and without conditions and to place all their nuclear facilities under International Energy Agency safeguards.  Israel's accession to the Treaty is wanted and so they are singling out Israel with a vote of 165 Yes, 7 No, 5 abstain.; and again 153 Yes, 5 NO, 9 abstain.

 Whether or not Israel has nuclear capabilities is not known, but the illusion is that they do.  Only this thought is keeping Arab nations at bay.  Israel is a teeny country that has lost 80% of her promised land to Arabs right off the bat, made up of only 7.7 million; 6 million Jews and 1.7 million Arabs and a few Christians against the 2nd largest religion  made up of Arabs  that run into the billions.  Israel's closest neighbor, of which has had a peace pact signed by Sadat, has about 91 million in their country.  Syria has about 23 million, Jordan about 6 million, Lebanon has over 4 million, and these are the closest ones.

Other points brought up in the committees that condemn Israel.  

 Permanent sovereignty of the Palestinian people in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and the Arab population in the occupied Syrian Golan over their natural  resources.
    Accusing Israel of exploitation  of the natural resources of the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem and other Arab territories occupied by Israel since 1967.  Vote of 162 Yes, 5 No, 9 Abstain.

  (Did Israel bomb missiles meant to hit Israel and get the tanks in the act?  How insane to store missiles by oil tanks)  (They didn't mention that the Palestinians never pay for their electric bill and are constantly in arrears.).  

 The right of the Palestinian people to self-determination-so the wall constructed by Israel, the occupying power, in the occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, along with measures previously taken, severely impedes the right of the Palestinian people to self determination.
(Never mind why the wall was necessary in that terrorists would enter into Israel and murder civilians and this was the only thing they could do to impede these results of death to Israelis).

 Assistance to Palestinian refugees, concern for them under occupation, including with regard to their safety, well-being and socioeconomic living conditions, displaced as a result of June 1967, and subsequent hostilities to return to their homes or former places of residence in their territories occupied by Israel since 1967.  Refugee camps in Gaza Strip as a result of continuing prolonged Israeli closures...and socioeconomic conditions in there.... rights about the Palestinian properties and their revenues in thinking of equity and justice, that policies and practices of Israel that violate human rights of the Palestinian people and other Arabs of the occupied territories, demands that Israel accept the Geneva Convention in Occupied Palestinian Territory including East Jerusalem, etc. occupied since 1967, that Israeli settlements and in the Golan are illegal and an obstacle to peace and economic and social development; violation of human rights, that Israel has imposed its laws, jurisdiction and administration on the Golan and demand that Israel rescind forthwith its decision. ..... women and children affected by living in occupied territory.  ...

( I don't know whether to laugh or to cry at this unbelievable accusation of the attackers of all the counties involved attacking  Israel in 1967 including the Palestinians.) It's the murderers suing the murder victim for causing them to have to get lawyers and pay for court expense and for losing their jobs because they tried to murder.  Looking at the UN's decisions, I've decided that crime certainly does pay.  They are like the children who murdered their parents and then cry because now they are orphans.  )

 UN is proclaiming 2014 the International Year or Solidarity with the Palestinian People; raising international awareness,  (Now isn't this going to be a fun year!)

Reiterates its determination that any actions taken by Israel to impose its laws, jurisdiction and administration on "the Holy City of Jerusalem are illegal and therefore null and void and have no validity whatsoever, and calls upon Israel to immediately cease all such illegal and unilateral measures.  (Do they remember that Jerusalem is the Jewish Holy City and that we  share it with all the religions under Israel's governorship?) (Do they realize that Jerusalem is now one united city doing very well and will not be divided again? or would South Korea like to give some more land back to North Korea?  How about dividing Washington DC and giving half to China., or of course-we could get California and Arizona to be given back to Mexico.  They'd like that.)  No, Israel has rights to East Jerusalem.  The whole city is what we have prayed for 2,000 years to return to.  We lost it in 70 CE to the Romans and never again shall we allow one iota to be under another's hand again.)  I don't care how much the Palestinians covet what isn't theirs in the first place.  Get over it!

   They want the Golan to be given back to Syria.  (Of course, they are thwarted in bombing Israel  from there now).

"UN chief Ban Ki-moon has rejected the criticism by a UN interpreter caught on an open microphone, saying through a spokesman that he “respects the right of [UN] member states” to adopt resolutions against Israel, which “need to be upheld by all countries.” But given that Ban himself has firmly criticized the singling out of Israel by UN bodies such as the Human Rights Council.   UN Watch expressed disappointment at the secretary-general's failure to support the UN interpreter’s virtually identical, candid and entirely correct observations."  The interpreter was heard to say accidentally that wasn't 6 a little too much for one country such as Israel?  

The United States delegate was the only one to speak up for Israel.  "Speaking after the votes, the representative of United States said that his country remained deeply troubled by the repetitive and disproportionate number of one-sided Assembly resolutions condemning Israel.  Only four other resolutions had been critical of other Member States.  All parties to the tragic conflict had a responsibility for ending it, and the United States was disappointed that the Assembly continued to single out Israel.  The United States urged a halt to one-sided actions that would disrupt or distract from the process.  Continued support for biased resolutions complicated efforts to reach a just and lasting peace.  Furthermore, the systematic bias and distortion of the conflict conveyed by the resolutions damaged United Nations’ credibility."

So, You Want to Talk About the Six Day War of 1967?

The Palestinians are talking to Netanyahu and Kerry only on the basis of talking about the pre-1967 borders of Israel.  In other words, they want to get what Israel has after being attacked by all the Muslim countries in 1967's June 5th to June 11th Six Day War.  They lost that terrible attack and now they want to erase that fact because it cost them.  Secretary of State John Kerry had to give Mahmoud Abbas a letter saying that the meeting is centered on this.

They had lost face again and they lost the rights to Judea and Samaria which rightfully was not theirs to be had in the first place.  Jordan had illegally just taken it over and occupied it in 1948 when Israel was battling for its very life.  It had been awarded to Israel as part of the Jewish Homeland by the League of Nations which every country in the world had signed onto.  As it turned out, Israel had to be satisfied with 20% of the promised Holy land while the Arabs, who have more land than they can handle, got 80% of it.  Why?  Oil.  The land they sit on has oil that the rest of the world needs.  Therefore promises have been broken in the name of economics and greed. The 67 war allowed Gaza, Judea and Samaria and East Jerusalem to come into Israel's hands as they did not start this war.  That must have been quite a picture:  4 large Arab nations with help from other Arab states against the only Jewish state of infinitesimal size who has the audacity to win!

So far, the Arabs have lost every battle they've started with Israel, and so they also blame the USA for that because Israel has bought weapons from the USA.  However, there never has been an American soldier fighting in America's name; only Jews, and mostly have been Israelis.  Jews entered Canaan under G-d's directions.  We feel we have still had G-d help. After all, the odds were all on the Arab's side to win in 1967, and they didn't.

    Israelites lived here under King David and son King Solomon (I Kings 5:4)Moses had led the Israelites out of Egypt.  Moses (1391 BCE-1271 BCE)  Jerusalem fell to the Romans in 70 CE.  Jews have been suffering from anti-Semitic actions ever since.  Israel was re-established May 14, 1948.

What they should rehash is the escalation which resulted in the Six Day War which consisted of 5 stages so that they won't happen again.

President Nasser of Egypt threatened on March 8, 1965, "We shall not enter Palestine with its soil covered in sand.  We shall enter it with its soil saturated in blood."  This war was highly pre-meditated and was to be a bloodshed for the Jews of Israel.

1. Syria, Egypt and the Soviet Union spread false reports of concentrations of Israeli forces on the Syrian frontier. They ignored on the spot reports by the UN that no such concentrations existed.  They fabricated such lies to have an excuse to attack.  Their reason for attack was to destroy and take Israel's 8,000 square miles.  Syria has 71,500 square miles and Egypt has 387,048 square miles already.  The Soviet Union had 8,144,228 square miles.

2.  The false reports were used by Egypt as a pretext for concentrating the bulk of its army in Sinai- 90,000 men and 900 tanks.

3. Egypt demanded that the UN Emergency Force withdraw on May 16th and they did which concluded the barrier they had been between Egypt and Israel.  Therefore Israel can never depend on outside help.They had been there since the 1956 Arab attack.

4. Egypt closed the Straits of Tiran  on May 22, 1967 to all navigation destined to Israel and called for war.THEY DECLARED WAR AGAINST ISRAEL.

5.  The Arab States formed a war pact against Israel.  The armies of:
     EGYPT, -led the pack
     JORDAN
     IRAQ
    SYRIA  began to concentrate their forces along the frontiers with Israel.  The Jordanian army was under the command of an Egyptian officer.

Arab leaders made speeches during this period affirming publicly their intention to destroy Israel.
President Nasser said on May 26, 1967:
"The Arab people want to fight.  We have been waiting for the right day when we would be fully prepared.  Recently , we have felt strong enough to triumph with God's help if we enter into battle with Israel.  On that basis, we have decided to take the actual measures.  Taking this step makes it imperative that we be ready to embark on a TOTAL WAR with Israel.

President Aref of Iraq spoke on June 1, 1967 on Radio Baghdad and said,
"We are resolved, determined and united to achieve our clear aim of wiping Israel off the map.  This is the day to wash away the stain.  God willing, we shall meet in Tel Aviv and Haifa.

Leader of PLO-Ahmed Shukairi on June 4, 1967 on native born Israelis:
"Those who survive will remain in "Palestine," but I estimate that not many of them will survive."

Israel waited for 3 weeks from May 15th for international intervention to stop the escalation and remove the threat from its frontiers.  The Great Powers and the United Nations were incapable of effecting any change in the situation.  On June 5th, war broke out.

About 250,000 Arab troops with almost half in the Sinai, more than 2,000 tanks and 700 aircraft ringed Israel.  

In 6 days, Israel destroyed the armies that had massed along its frontiers and menaced its vital centers.  Cease-fire lines were established along the Suez Canal, the Jordan River and the Golan Heights.  The Straits of Tiran were once again open to navigation.  Jerusalem was re-unified.  Israel had conquered more than triple the size of the area it controlled from 8,000 to 26,000 square miles.  Israel won the Sinai, Golan Heights, Gaza Strip and Judea and Samaria and unified Jerusalem.  Israel lost 777 soldiers and 2,586 were wounded.  It compares to the USA's 8 years of fighting in the war in Vietnam as far as population goes.  Cease fire was invoked on June 10th as Israeli forces broke through enemy lines and were in a position to march on Cairo, Damascus and Amman, Jordan.  The Arabs called "UNCLE!"

I would give them Bupkas!  Netanyahu is giving them back some of the killer Palestinians that have been in Israeli prisons. The Arabs want 350 of which 100 had been the deadliest of killers.   They are to be released in phases.  Their charges range from rock throwers, deadly assaults, shooting attacks to bombers.

Tzipi Livni, Israel's female negotiator, said she is hopeful after years of mistrust.

Israel's Objectives Since 1967 Run Smack Against the Arab Objectives

When the Six Day War concluded, Israel's Defense Minister, Moshe Dayan, was "waiting for a telephone call from the Arab leaders."  We're still waiting these past 46 years.  "Three weeks after the conclusion of hostilities, the first major incident occurred along the Suez Canal."  "Israel, Egypt, Syria and Jordan were the major combatants in the Six-Day War. In addition to these, other Arab countries played smaller roles in the conflict." That meant about 5 million population of Israel was up against 79 million in Egypt, 22 million of Syria and 5 million of Jordan.

Since the Six Day War of June 1967, Israel's main objective has been:

1.  To have peace within secure borders.  Israel has known only armistice lines and cease fire line.  It has been seeking borders which will be defensible.  This means borders that will not be a temptation to an aggressor as did the pre-1967 lines.

Israel has offered to negotiate since 1967 with the Arab Governments a true peace which would also provide for secure borders.  Israel has insisted that it makes no prior conditions, and that everything will be open for discussion in the negotiations.  Of course Israel has a few positions on where the secure borders ought to be.
2. "Israel vowed not to return to the vulnerable armistice lines of 1948 and '49 or to a divided Jerusalem, and yet to be "unbelievably generous in working out peace terms," as Foreign Minister Abba Eban put it. In direct talks with Arab countries, "everything is negotiable," he said."

3. Israel was prepared to return most of the Sinai back to Egypt with positions that it must remain in control of Sharm el-Sheikh so as to prevent Egypt from closing the Gulf of Eilat for a 3rd time.  Sharm el-Sheikh must be linked territorially to Israel.  The remainder of Sinai must be demilitarized.

4. Israel didn't wish to annex a large Arab population but its position was that the River Jordan should no longer be open to crossing by Arab troops and in order to assure this there must be an Israeli foothold in the Jordan Valley.

The Arab objectives of 13 Arab states led by Nasser since 1967 have been the three Noes of Khartoum in August 1967 where the Summit Conference of Arab leaders laid down 4 principals.
1. No peace with Israel
2. No negotiations with Israel.
3. No recognition of Israel
4. Insistence on the rights of the "Palestinian people in their own country."

Nasser held out for 12 years and then signed a peace treaty with Israel.  This made the 20 member Arab League so angry that they expelled Egypt from their group.  "The Arab League was founded in Cairo in 1945 by Egypt, Iraq, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Syria,  Transjordan, then Jordan from 1946), and Yemen, (North Yemen, later combined Yemen).  An additional 15 Arab states and 4 observers were later   admitted. They exclude Israel, so really should call it the Muslim League.  Notice the present list of 22 member states includes Palestine with Jerusalem as their capital.  

    The Palestinian people are not in their own country.  They are not native to Palestine.  Many were in the land only 2 years before the last census was taken.  Most all were recent immigrants.  Very few were old timers with ancestors there before 1860's in which they were land owners.  Before Palestine was named as such, the land was Judah and Israel, taken by the Romans and renamed after the Jewish Bar Kochba rebellion of 135 CE.

This can only be considered for the rights of Arabs since 1948 who call themselves Palestinians in denial of the nearby lands they migrated from. They have become the 1.6 million Arab citizens of Israel.   In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Arabs were wandering in search of subsistence all over the Middle East.  Palestine had become a wasteland of which the remaining Jews had refused to leave.  Arabs there thought of themselves as Ottomans or Turks, or Southern Syrians, or just the Arab people but never once said they were Palestinians.  One thing though, they were full of religious prejudice and would  turn to anti-Jewish violence often, especially at the call of their Muslim leadership long before Israel's 1948 birth.

The land was designated to be the "Jewish National Home" and Britain held the Mandate which meant they had the responsibility to see that this came about back at the end of WWI in 1917.  Instead, the British treated the land as "Arab Land."  They brutally restricted Jewish immigration while Arab immigration was freely permitted which came to be known as the British "system" of immigration.  To appease Arab "discontent," the British violated the international League of Nations Mandate because they facilitated Arab settlement onto Jewish-settled land, and by treating Jews only on sufferance in their own Jewish National Home.  They didn't take any measure of Arab in-migrants and immigrants because the prevalent erroneous assumption was and still is that those Arab migrants had always been there.  Omitting such information facilitated the myth of today.

This came about with the 1939 White Paper restrictions from Britain when Hitler was carrying on a war against Jews.  This White Paper became a death warrant.  The White Paper remained a policy of Great Britain until Israel's birth on May 14, 1948.  England's War Cabinet had declared, in March 1942, that the British would continue to take all practicable steps to discourage illegal immigration into Palestine.  The Struma was sinking and the Grand Mufti declared a holy war against Britain and was demanding that Hitler, Ribbentrop, and the Bulgarian, Hungarian and Rumanian governments keep their promise of the destruction of the so-called Jewish National Home which was an immutable part of the policy of the greater German Reich.  The Nazi allies must do all that is necessary to prohibit the emigration of Jews to Palestine by sending them to the extermination camps in Poland.  So the British went along with these demands with their stopping Jewish immigration and encouraging Arab immigration instead.

They allowed Arabs to swarm into the Jewish settled areas of Western Palestine and take the places that Palestinian Jews were clearing for Jewish refugees, and then charged the Jews with displacing Arab natives in the Jewish-settled areas of Western Palestine.  The Arab found benefits they had never known before and shouldn't be able to claim to have been victims.  John Hope Simpson (1868-1961 British politician serving in Parliament, retired in 1916)  acknowledged in 1930 that the Arab demand for justice was seen instead to be injustice.  He recommended limiting Jewish immigration which went against the Mandate.on October 21, 1930 because there wasn't any agricultural lands for them to work.  This is when the Passfield White Paper was issued.  It was also the same time the Nazis were warming up to their intentions to rid themselves of Jews.

Arab traditional movement was the same migration equal to the situational migration of the Germans, Russians, Czech, Hungarians, Vietnamese, Cambodians, Afghan and Lebanese refugees fleeing to become immigrants elsewhere, escaping from persecution, dictatorship or certain death, only they moved into Palestine's Jewish areas looking for work.  They were not the settled inhabitants for millennia.  They were simply shifting to where they thought their brethren were better treated.  They found life much better in the UNWRA camp setting than for the landless impoverished laborers anywhere in the Arab world.  With the Jews they had found better wages and improved living conditions but that wasn't as strong a motivator as the Arab leaders direction not to stay in 1948.  They obeyed leadership and fled with the instigating promise of taking the Jewish homes after their armies won, for the Arab armies didn't want to kill anyone but Jews.

What The Colonies Are That Palestinians Complain About

A gang of Palestinian Arabs protested when Obama came to visit Judea-Samaria, or as they call it, the West Bank.  They are angry because Obama didn't bring change.  They are living in colonies, they say, not their Palestine. They'd better have a talk with Abbas.

These young Arabs forget that where they are living was originally Jewish Homeland.  In fact, after WWI the British took back their promise to the Jews of their Jewish Homeland and gave away 80% of it to Jordan.  Right now Israel is about 80% Jewish and 20% Muslim with 1.4 million Arabs as citizens.  Judea-Samaria is made up of about 75% Muslims and 17% Jews and 8% Christians.  But Palestine is to be Judenrein, so they're planning  to kick out all but the Muslims.

 Where they are living and calling colonies are such cities as Ramallah  which is 6 miles from Jerusalem.  "Modern Ramallah was founded in the mid-16th century by the Haddadins, a Jordanian tribe of brothers descended from Ghassanid Christian Arabs. The Haddadins, led by Rashid Haddadin, arrived from east of the Jordan River near the Jordanian town of Shoubak. The Haddadin migration is attributed to fighting and unrest among clans in that area."

It is the capital of the Palestinian Authority.  27,092 live in this historically Christian city where the Christians are now a minority.  The British army lived here in December 1917.  It came into Jordan's hands when they attacked in 1948 until 1967.  Jordan had jailed many Palestinains.  In Israel's hands they could for the first time visit Israel and the Gaza Strip and deal in commerce.  However, they were leaders of the Intifada that started in December 1987.

 Headlines today say, " PA to impose a curfew on Ramallah during (Obama) visit;  Palestinian lawyers demand Obama's arrest for crimes US army committed. " Hundreds of Palestinians gathered in the center of Ramallah on Wednesday to protest against US President Barack Obama’s planned visit to the city. "The protest was organized by the radical Islamist group Hizb ut Tahrir, which seeks the establishment of an Islamic caliphate." "

  Hebron was called Kiriath-Arba in the "Old Testament", or our Torah.  It is only 18 miles from Jerusalem.  Abraham bought a plot of land from the Hittites, the Cave of Machpelah so that he could bury his wife,  Sarah.   This is history both Jews and Muslims share.  That's where it ends.  

This ancient city was once a part of the Jewish state of Judah, a state created by the followers of King David.  It was one of the cities of refuge.  David reigned here for 7 1/2 years before moving his capital to Jerusalem. A Jewish community continued here through the Byzantine Period and under Arab rule.   It is one of 4 sacred Jewish towns;   Hebron, Tiberias, Safed and Jerusalem.  Jews lived here continuously.  By 1890 there were 1,500 Jews living there with established yeshivot and religious schools.  In 1925 the great Lithuanian yeshivah of Slobodka was brought there.

In 1929, when stocks fell in the USA, Arabs were all in an uproar and massacred many Jews of Hebron.  Survivors were forced to leave.  30 Jewish families returned in 1931.  The Arabs rioted again in 1936, when things were bad for Jews in Germany.

After the Six Day War of 1967, some Jews came back to Hebron, descendants of those who had to leave or die, and they established Kiryat Arba which is east of the main city.  3,700 lived there in 1988.

Bethlehem has been taken over by the Muslims.  It is only 5.25 miles away from Jerusalem.  This was the birthplace of King David where "the Book of Ruth" occurred.  Christians say this is where Jesus was born.  The Roman Emperor, Constantine and his mother Helena built the Church of the Nativity here in 330 CE. From 1948 to 1967 it was under Jordanian rule and came into Israel's hands from the Six Day 1967 War.  In 1948 there were 7,500 Christians living here and 2,500 Muslims.  By 1968  there were 32,000 people.

Nablus, originally called Shechem is one of today's  Palestinian "colonies".  It's so old its origins go back to the Canaanites with walls that date from about 2,000 BCE, and like others, was in Jordanian territory from 48-67 and now controlled by Israel.  It was under Egyptian control  back in their 12th dynasty.  Our biblical patriarchs camped under its walls and it was taken by Simeon and Levi (Gen. 34), 2 of the 12 sons of Jacob.  It became the territory for Ephraim, another of the 12 sons and their desendants.  It was a Levitical city and a city of refuge as well as the center of the House of Joseph.  Joseph is buried here. The Assyrians had attacked in 721 BCE and took many of the 12 tribal members, leaving Judah, Levi and some of Benjamin's descendants.   In 1967 it had 44,000 people, mostly all Muslims with a tiny Samaritan community and has for decades been a center of fanatical Arab nationalism.  A small Jewish community formerly existed here.

Jericho lies in the Jordan valley 825 ' below sea level, sort of like Death Valley in California. When we drove from Tsfat to Jerusalem we went through Jericho.   It is one of the oldest settlements in the world and its first city wall goes back to the Neolithic Period of 5,000 BCE and then destroyed by Joshua (Josh.6).  It was revived only during the reign of the Jewish King Ahab of 870 BCE by Hiel the Bethelite.  (I Kings 16:34).  When King Herod of Judea (appointed by Romans) ruled and built himself a palace there where he died.  The Romans then destroyed Jericho in 68 CE and it was later rebuilt where it is now.  It is now surrounded by orange groves and banana plantations.  3,000 lived there in 1946 and Arab refugees moved there in 1948, numbering 61,000 in 1961.  Most fled over the Jordan before Israel troops arrived during the Six Day War. and some 8,500 lived in Jericho and another 2,000 in its vicinity at the time of the 1967 census.

Jenin is mentioned as Gina in the Tel el Amarna tablets and is probably the biblical En Gannim (Joshua 19:21) , called Ginaea in Roman times and had a small Jewish community in the 17th century CE.  It was a center of Arab nationalist fanaticism in the 1930's and was part of Jordan from 1948-1967.  In 1967 there were 8,346 apart from 5,019 Arab refugees in the vicinity.

During the Six Day War, Jordan had attacked Israel despite a message sent to Hussein by PM Levi Eshkol that if she remained out of the attack she would not be attacked.  Israel's Jerusalem and border towns were heavily shelled by the Jordanians.  Later on June 5, Israeli troops began their moves against the Jordanian positions and cut off Jordanian "east"Jerusalem (including the Old City) which fell on June 7th.  The entire area west of the Jordan river, including Bethlehem, Hebron and Nablus fell to the Israeli army.

"King Hussein of Jordan signed on with Egypt to attack Israel.  He wrote:  The armies of Egypt, Jordan, Syria and Lebanon are poised on the borders of Israel...to face the challenge, while standing behind us are the armies of Iraq, Algeria, Kuwait, Sudan and the whole Arab nation."  They had 465,000 soldiers against Israel who won against them all in 6 days.  

According to the UN statistics of 2010, The West Bank population is 2,568,555 and East Jerusalem has 192,800.  Ramallah and al-Bireh Governorate claim 57,000.

AIPAC Lobby Knows of Others' Animus for Israel

Ruth Wisse, professor at Harvard University in Jewish culture through our Yiddish literature starting with Torah literature, wrote an article for The Wall Street Journal that tells it all in a short essay that everyone should read (below).  It not only explains the whole situation in a nutshell about why Palestinians feel the way they do towards Israelis, but also explains why we need a Secretary of Defense that does not feel animus towards Israel.  Hagel's comment in 2006 saying "The Jewish lobby intimidates a lot of people up here, but I'm a US senator.  I'm not an Israeli senator." shows that he is just not open minded about Israel's situation at all.  He has since rescinded his comment declaring that he is in tune, but actions speak louder than words in this case.

On February 28, 2012 Ruth Wisse's article came out about Harvard's latest assault on Israel.  This is where she teaches  about Yiddish and comparative literature, so I'm sure she has been appalled at Harvard's stand.  Not only Harvard, but she also notes that anti-Israel attitudes have been growing on campuses from California   to New York.  with "Israeli Apartheid Week"

What's amazing is the use of Israel's opposition to deny Jews their right to their one country and then turn around and accuse Jews of denying Arabs their 22nd Muslim  country.  Actually, there are 49 Muslim majority countries in the world if you count the newly received "Palestine."  Is this being pointed out in Harvard other than by Dr. Ruth Wisse?  Probably not.

Ruth points out the difference between freedom of speech and abetting.  Newspapers fuel stories giving equal credence to Israel's attackers and defenders.  They certainly don't want to offend the Muslims but don't mind offending the truth of the matter, or is it that their moral skills are so weak and they do not understand the differences between the two?

Ruth not only knows a lot about Yiddish and literature but can get to the heart of a matter without mincing words very well.  She is also the author of"Jews and Power" (Schocken, 2007), which is her 4th book that can be found on http://amazon.com.  

In my family, which is a bastion of Liberal Democrats, only a few understand why the minority of us voted for Romney.  Ruth's next article explains that while voters will not necessarily have Israel in mind---but for those who do, like myself, the choice has never seemed clearer.  Susan Crown felt as I did. "Telling all the people who have lost loved ones in the 1967 war, that we were going to have a 'do-over,' really made me mad," she said.  I agree!   This idea of Obama's to state on TV that Israel should return to the 67 lines showed me that he didn't know what he was talking about and that he was being influenced by other advisers who did not have Israel's interests in mind at all.

From newspapers to international news on TV and radio, it's easy to get depressed with all the anti-Israeli sentiment in the world these days.  It is so different from just after the 1967 Six Day war when Israel won against all odds after being attacked by Egypt, also called the United Arab Republic, Syria and Jordan, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Algeria, Libya, Kuwait, Tunisia, Sudan and the PLO under Arafat.   Israel's army of 50,000 was up against the Muslim's armies of 240,000 that were deployed.  They had 547,000 troops ready.  Israel suffered the deaths of 776-983 IDF soldiers while the Muslims claim 10,000-15,000 died on their side.

D-Day and the Six Day War

June 6, 1944 is remembered today as D Day.  It is the day that the USA landed on the beaches of Normandy which amounted to the largest amphibious landing ever recorded  to end the 2nd World War.  It was a lesson to us all of the inhumanity of all wars.  That was 68 years ago.  It had started for the USA on December 7, 1941.

June 5 to June 10, 1967 is also remembered as the Six Day War in Israel, one of the never ending processions of wars that the little country has had to fight since May 14, 1948. That was 45 years ago.   This is what had happened according to Israel.

A little background first between those involved.  Arab terrorist attacks grew more frequent.  In 1965, 35 raids were conducted against Israel.  In 1966, 41 raids occurred.  In just the first 4 months of 1967, 37 attacks were launched. Also, Syria shelled Israeli tractors on the shore of the Sea of Galilee from the Golan Heights, provoking a retaliatory strike on April 7, 1967, during which Israeli planes shot down 6 Syrian MiGs.  Then in May, the Soviet Union---which had been providing military and economic aid to both Syria and Egypt---gave Damascus information alleging a massive Israeli military buildup in preparation for an attack.

1.  Syria, Egypt and the Soviet Union spread false reports of Israeli forces concentrations on the Syrian frontier.  They ignored reports by the UN that no such concentrations existed.  The UN was right there with on-the-spot reports.

2. May 15th, Israel Independence Day-The false reports were used by Egypt as a pretext for concentrating the bulk of its army in Sinai--90,000 men and 900 tanks.  May 18th-Syrian troops were prepared for battle along the Golan Heights.

3.  Nasser of Egypt demanded the UN emergency force, there since 1956,  to withdraw and they did on May 16th. It was Secretary-General U Thant  that complied to the demand.  This meant that the barrier between Egypt and Israel was no more.  The Voice of the Arabs proclaimed on May 18th said no more complaining about Israel to the UN and they would use total war now, resulting in the extermination of Zionist existence.  Syria's Defense Minister Hafez Assad was enthusiastic with an echo of the same on May 20th.  

4.  Then Egypt closed the Straits of Tiran to all navigation destined to Israel and called for WAR.

5.  Led by Egypt, the Arab States formed a war pact against Israel.  The armies of Jordan, Iraq and Syria began to concentrate their forces along the frontiers with Israel.  The Jordanian Army was placed under the command of an Egyptian officer.  Arab leaders affirmed publicly their intention to destroy Israel.  President Nassar made a speech on May 26th saying:  THE ARAB PEOPLE WANT TO FIGHT.  WE HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THE RIGHT DAY WHEN WE WOULD BE FULLY  PREPARED...ETC.  .

6.  Israel waited for 3 weeks from May 15th for international action to stop the escalation and remove the threat, but the Powers to be and the UN were incapable or unwilling to act.  On June 5th WAR broke out. During this time Nasser challenged Israel to fight almost daily.  "Our basic objective will be the destruction of Israel. The Arab people want to fight," he said on May 27th.

7.  Israel destroyed the armies that had massed along its frontiers and menaced its vital centers.  Cease-fire lines were established along the Suez Canal, the Jordan River and the Golan Heights.  The Straits of Tiran were open again for navigation.  Jerusalem was re-unified, meaning the walls dividing it came down which had been put up by Jordan illegally.  .

Forty-five years ago today, the Six-Day War began and was a time when Israel's existence was most precarious.  One Jewish pundit, Jeffrey Goldberg has tried to use the theme that this famous victory was a defeat because we then wound up with the West Bank (Judea and Samaria).  He's advocating that Israel needs to withdraw all Jews from there even without a peace accord.  We have already lived through that same act with Gaza, and got nothing but shelling since we withdrew from there.  Jonathan Tobin, on the other hand, says that as long as the goal of Israel's foes is its destruction and not merely withdrawal, one must realize that we are trying to survive and look at the situation through our eyes, not the world's perceptions.  After all, it was the world-even including the USA, that told Israel to sit back and wait to be attacked, which is what they're all preaching today.  "Until there is a change in the Palestinian political culture that would allow them to live in peace alongside a Jewish state, peace is impossible."  If this is not a truism, I'd like to hear your idea.  The sad state of affairs is that Israel hungers for peace.  They want peace and have done all the leading towards a peace, all the giving into the demands.

Are Jews Trying to Take Over the World?

For a long time anti-semites were saying that Jews were taking over the world.  People think we own all the banks because a few Jews have been bankers.  They don't realize that we are only much less than 1% of the entire world population.  Most of us reside either in Israel today or the USA.  It's almost 50-50.
Sammy Davis, Jr., the American black comedian and fantastic dancer actually converted to Judaism.  After he decided to become a Jew, only then did he learn that Jews don't really have all the money.  When he found out Rockerfeller and Ford were goyim (non-Jews), he almost resigned.  Ha!  In fact, Ford was quite the anti-semite. 

Whatever we do, we like to do the best we can.  We can blame our mothers.  They, along with Chaim Ginot, child psychologist, have figured out how to get the most out of their children and make them proud, for Jewish parents are the proudest of their children; not their home or car or fur coats, but their children's successes.

Take my father.  He was born to immigrant parents in 1908 who couldn't read, write or speak English.  They conversed in Yiddish.  My grandfather died in 1912 in a horse and wagon accident leaving his pregnant wife and 3 teeny children.  His money, if there was any, was not in a bank.  Russian Jews typically didn't trust banks.  He had it hidden in the horse stall, so Bubba thought, though she didn't find a penny.  So there she was with only a Jewish Neighborhood House around the corner that was able to help her a little.  My dad had to go out with his 2 year older brother at the age of 5 and sell newspapers on the street corner to help support the family, and she had to get a job plucking chickens.    He quickly learned how to make change before starting the 1st grade, where he learned to speak English. 

Dad was doing so well in high school baseball, but had to quit school to again support everyone.  To make this short, his occupation started off as a Kosher butcher which led to being the owner of Silver Falls Meat Packing Co in Portland with several cattle trucks.  He never took off a day to have a vacation.  He worked hard, died at age 59 but left his widow and children well protected. 

I find that if you are Jewish, you are expected to be at the top of your class, and you usually are.  Why?  Genetics?  I think it helps. Jews have always been merchants.  When they were taken from Jerusalem, some wandered in the Silk Route as merchants.  They even went into Africa.  Many countries in Europe didn't allow Jews to own land and farm, so selling was all they were allowed to do, and that led to loaning people like Royalty money which led to financing at times. 

 By the age of 13 a boy is bar mitzvahed which means he is a full member of the congregation in the synagogue and is expected to take a turn reading the Torah in Hebrew, so he has to be fairly intelligent to manage a 2nd language which is not a part of public school.  Jewish women prefer intelligent men, so that is something that is attractive to them.  Thus, we belong to a pretty intelligent group.

There has been so much anti-semitism which caused people to have a terrible image of Jews and called them disgusting names.  "Kike" was their 4 letter word for a Jew. Anti-semitism has been endemic in America since the early settlers had restrictions against Jews. It ran rampant in the 1920's here in America. 

The Six Day War in Israel knocked the socks off of most people when they saw Jews destroy 300 Egyptian planes and 19 airbases.  At the end of 24 hours on June 5th 1967, the air forces of 4 Arab nations lay on the ground, all charred like burnt chickens.  "They had altered the whole picture of modern warfare." said Anthony Sampson, author.  Military analysts found it hard to believe because Britain and France had tried to do something similar against Egypt in 1956, but the results weren't the same.  How could Israelis do this in a few hours?  They were so outnumbered and the Arab defeat was overwhelming. 

The pilots were outstanding.  They didn't waste any ammunition.  The Egyptian MIGs had had it.  What had happened was that the Israeli Air Force was made up of highly skilled well trained men and they had good plans.  They did their usual best.  Besides that, they used their innate courage, unlike the stereotype Jew the world had created.  They had to be courageous with all the neighboring nations attacking at once like a pack of dogs.  It wasn't that unusual for Jews of today to be good fighters, as they had been in biblical days as well.  Those abilities were still there. 

What about that stereotype? Israel itself, has surprised everyone by having their own economic problems and an unbalanced budget, especially being they have had to spend so much money on protection and wars.   Harry Golden wrote that people might now say, "Them Jews are great fighters, but they are certainly poor businessmen!" 

Unfortunately, people still get excited when they talk about people taking over the world and find a few Jewish men at the helm of a business or bank.  There was a time that Jewish students with high capabilities couldn't even get in medical schools when they had the highest scores much like SATs.  Why?  There was a limit of how many Jews were allowed in their schools.  So they had to go into other fields, though they had their hearts set on becoming doctors. 

Anti-Semitism was nourished on a paranoic delusion that the world is controlled by, and that its many problems were caused by, a secret and massively powerful Jewish conspiracy.  Where Jews lack power but are condemned for possessing and misusing it, this is anti-semitism.

  And we said to Sammy Davis, "YOU want to become Jewish?  Are you crazy?  Don't you have enough problems with being black?"  He knew and he did and G-d bless him.

Peace Initiatives Next Month From Netanyahu and Obama: Which One First? What Do They Include?

The rumor is that Obama may present his own peace plan next month before Netanyahu presents his to the American Congress.  Netanyahu's is going to include some facts about Iran, for one thing.

Obama has been said to present a plan forcing Israel back to their 1967 border.  This is the same border that Israel had from 1949 to the Six Day War of June 5-10, 1967 when Israel won against all odds an enormous attack that was unbelievable.

The United Arab Republic made up of Egypt, Jordan and Syria attacked.  The Arab forces included Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Algeria, Libya, Tunisia, Sudan and the PLO who are the Fatah in Judea and Samaria today.  Egypt had 100,000 troops in the Sinai, all 7 of their division including 950 tanks, 1,100 APC's, and 1,000 artillary pieces.   Syria had 75,000 troops, Jordan had 55,000 troops and 300 tanks.  They had pilots from Pakistan's Air Force volunteering and there was aircraft from Libya, Algeria, Morocco, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia. 

How Israel won was simply a miracle against all this.  Who else would have even dared to try to survive much less win against such insurmountable odds?  Israel was fighting alone for its life.  By winning in these 6 days, they had taken the Gaza Strip, the Sinai Peninsula from Egypt, Judea and Samaria (West Bank as Jordan had called it) and East Jerusalem from Jordan as well.  Jordan never did keep their promises to allow Jews into their holy places before.  They took the 3,000 feet in altitude Golan Heights from Syria which was on the border of Israel .  This had enabled the Syrians to shoot at Israelis below like sitting ducks.
So by forcing Israel to accept this plan, it would mean giving up what they had taken in defense from the worst amassed bullies on Earth.  Israel has already left the Gaza Strip in the act of peace only to be met with daily rockets and missiles as the terrorists attain this weaponry.  Israel gave up the Sinai to Egypt for peace which seemed to have worked well before Mubarek was just forced out.  It doesn't sound like the rebellion will honor any peace pact with Israel now.  More likely the Muslim Brotherhood will have a lot to say, and if they do will be very much against peace with Israel.  Their plan is to destroy Israel.  Giving up the Golan Heights would give Syria the advantage of shooting at Israelis once again, and that might mean with the same kind of weapons that are coming out of Gaza which are being supplied by Iran that are now highly sophisticated and lethal. 

Though the Palestinians have refused to accept Israel as the world's only Jewish State, or talk of any peace situation, Israel would be expected to accept a state of Palestine.  If this is only in Judea or Samaria or if it includes Gaza is not known.  Jerusalem would become divided again and would serve as the capital for both states. 

The only good points for Israel would be that the "Palestinians" would not have the right to return to wherever they fled from.  Israel's security would have to be protected.  It is not known if this is by Israel as it has always been or if there are other forces to be called upon.  Most likely this is just a statement and has not been thought out as yet.

Much is happening in May.  Those for and against Israel will be meeting and speaking.  We'll have to watch for the final outcome.
