Is Samantha Power, Selected to be Ambassador to UN, A Fair Person?

Nadene Goldfoot
UN, General Assembly, New York, New York, USA
President Obama has announced that he will nominate foreign policy confidant Samantha Power, a pro Palestinian  and anti-Israeli human rights speaker,  to replace Susan Rice as the US ambassador to the UN.  This is pretty earthshaking news as she inferred  in 2002 about the need to invade Israel!  She has been connected to Obama for a long time.  In 2008 she was forced to resign from his campaign because of her negative remarks she made about Hillary Clinton. She is to take office in July, 2013.

I have the website for her 3 minute long 2002 interview with Harry Kreisler of Berkeley University asking her questions as first on my list below, but here is a rundown of what she said and felt.  She was asked that if she were the advisor to Obama, what would you say to him. Her answer was shocking being that Israel is the one and only democratic state in the Middle East and has been called a friend of the USA by other presidents since Harry Truman.

She advised to invest in the new state of Palestine in the amount of billions of dollars that it would take to have a mammoth protection force that was meaningful.  She seems to be worrying about their genocide from Israel, not the other way around.  She thought that both political leaders (Arafat and Sharon)  had been dreadfully irresponsible and the situation requires external intervention.   She wanted to put something on the line which might mean alienating a domestic constituency (Israel) of tremendous political and financial import (support to Israel).  It's plain to see who she is already bent to support.

Though today she disavows the clip, she obviously was referring to AIPAC, a pro-Israel lobby.  Her planning the backing of a "meaningful military presence" sounds like an invasion for sure.  When she was again interviewed, this time by Haaretz, an Israeli newspaper in 2008, she disowned her own comments that are on the video, copping out with saying that she didn't understand them and they sounded weird" even to her today.  Of course, there's going to be lots of backlash to this appointment because of that interview.  She's now bemoaning that the statement was made "some time ago" and now regrets them.  She then came up with, "Judaism teaches that a person is judged primarily by their actions."  She doesn't know about loshen hora, then.  Words hurt as much as bombs do many times over.

Samantha 43 years old, is an Irish American  writer that started her career as a journalist covering the Yugoslav Wars. From 1998 to 2002 she worked on Human Rights at Harvard where she she worked as a professor.  She was a senior adviser to Senator Barack Obama until March 2008 when she had to resign.  She is an immigrant from Dublin, Ireland and came with her parents at age 9 to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1979.  She went to high school in Atlanta, Georgia and graduated from Yale University.  From  1993 to 1996, she had a job as a journalist and then returned to the USA and graduated from Harvard Law School in 1999.

Her specialty in writing is human rights and genocide.  During her 2005-6 work for Senator Obama, she got him interested in the Darfur conflict.  Very young and having worked in a real job for only 6 years, I don't see anything on her resume saying she's an expert in the Palestinian Israeli conflict.  She seems to me to have already made a judgement against Israel if she felt they needed to be invaded and all monies must be spent on creating Palestine.  She's very one-sided in her decision-making without facts to back up her feelings.

Obama presents her as a woman who has been a relentless advocate for American interests and values.  So Israel doesn't count anymore with this administration as being one of America's interests or values?  Why is it that Obama never selects people who are pro-Israel?  Samantha is copping a plea and so are the reporters writing about her 2002 Freudian slip, if that is what it was.

Heavens, if she is still thinking like she did at age 32, she's be ready to invade Israel but not Syria, whose government has already killed off 80,000 or more in which the USA certainly has not invaded to set things right.  She doesn't get it in that it is the Palestinian Hamas terrorists who are terrorizing and trying to kill the southern Israelis with mortars, missiles and rockets.  We are wondering where the Human Rights people are  and never meet any except when Israel is forced to recapitulate to stop the attack and who  are noted by other army heads as doing it in a very humane way, more than others would.  It would help if she studied the situation, and not only from Palestinian propaganda.

May I suggest my favorite author, Joan Peters, reporter, non-Jewish, who also thought the Palestinians were being treated unfairly.  After she did a real job of researching such as a reporter should do, she wrote her book, From Time Immemorial and wound up advising presidents.  Now that was a reporter who deserves a prize!  She was not swayed by biased people, even though she went into the research with strong opinions.  She came to see the facts and printed them.  They reshaped her viewpoint.  Samantha!  Read her book!

Is Al Gore the Icon of the Democratic Party? Selling Out to Al Jazeera

Nadene Goldfoot
Al Gore, former Democrat backed Vice President of the United States from 1993 to 2001, owned a TV station, Current TV. Talk about the Republicans out to make money with big investments, Al just made a huge bundle of $500 million by selling out to a foreign Arab company, Al Jazeera, whose Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani,  bought it with his oil revenue.  His Current TV was extremely leftist, which is pretty much the way the Democrat Party has gone and must have been a reflection of his own philosophy.   Now," Al Jazeera tends to ascribe the worst imperialist motives to any U.S. foreign policy move." Qatar will be able to  break into American media markets with news from an Arab point of view. We all realize what that is; Israel is the evil empire that must be squashed.  I was having fits that Al Jazeera could broadcast into universities and colleges already where anti-Israel activities already have been taking place, but now?  The whole United states can be brainwashed.

Glen Beck, who is on the right of politics, offered to buy Current TV at Gore's price, but he turned it down.  No, he'd rather go with a foreigner who advocates the fall of Israel with the USA right after them.  After all, from October 2009 to January 2010, the Qatar Foundation began PR campaigning on both the Al-Jazeera Arabic and English channels to promote itself.  These commercials were also airing on CNN.  He must have been swayed.  Financially, he did quite well for having bought Current TV for $71 million in 2004.  I wonder  what his profit was for inventing Internet?

While serving with President Bill Clinton, I see that Bill's wife, Hillary Clinton, who just resigned from being our Secretary of State, participated in an official Al-Jazeera town hall interview at the Carnegie Mellon University branch campus in Qatar's Education City.  She was introduced by Sheikh Abdallah Al-Thani, who praised the 6 American universities based there.  So there is a close connection already to Qatar and their philosophy.  The heads of state in Qatar are mostly all related to each other.

And who is a regular on Al Jazeera TV?  Why, Sheik Yusuf al-Qaradawi:  the favorite one and only theologian and best friend of the Emir; known as the theologian of Terror.  He just happens to be the radical Muslim Brotherhood ideologue who  was kicked out of Egypt in the days of Morsi and found a haven from the Emir of Qatar.  Through his speeches and writings, he shows consistent support of terrorist groups that have undermined a peaceful resolution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

Qaradawi has expressed his desire to see a "conquered" Jerusalem  in his January 24, 2011 fatwa.  In it he said that Jews had no connection to this city and that it was the duty of Muslims to "defend" Jerusalem with their lives, money and all they possess or else they would be subject to Allah's punishment."  He of course refuses to dialogue with Jews and endorses Palestinian suicide bombings against Israeli civilians.  He would like to kill Jews with his bare hands, he has said, even though he is in a wheel chair.  Qaradawi has also given support for targeting American forces and civilians in Iraq, and has been banned from entering the USA since 1999 for his extremist views.  Even Britain kept him out in February 2008 when he was denied a visa to enter for medical treatment.  This man, born in 1926 in Egypt, is pure evil.

The Al Jazeera TV show, "Shariah and Life"  is his media empire for spreading  hatred by supporting terror. An April 2004 show, credited Allah with providing Palestinians  "human bombs" instead of the planes, missiles and weapons that Zionists have.  (Note: no regard for human life.)    He has a worldwide following through this TV and the use of Internet.  He is the spiritual guide for the Islamist movement of the Muslim Brotherhood, even though he has declined the head position of General Guide.  He also airs on this TV station his Friday sermons at the Umar bin al-Khattab mosque, which is a government-sponsored mosque in Doha.  In a 2005 sermon, he spoke about notable Hamas leaders killed by Israel.  He said of the terrorists that their fate was paradise and that they died martyrs.  He went on to say that they met the death that every Muslim wishes for himself, which is martyrdom in the cause of God.

Qaradawi's influence reaches into the USA as well as in Qatar.  In the USA he is the chairman (in abstenia) of the Michigan-based Islamic American University (IAU), a subsidiary of the Muslim American society (MAS).  He's also listed as a faculty member.  Despite being banned from coming into the USA, his messages still reach the American public via satellite TV and the internet, and now it will be even easier to do so being  Al Jazeera owns a company here in America.

"While Al Jazeera’s English network, started in 2006, reaches 250 million households in 130 countries, the U.S. represents only a small fraction of that audience. Al Jazeera said it will replace Current TV’s shows with its own this year."  Of Course they will.  They have their own agenda.

Muslim Brotherhood Connections in the White House

Nadene Goldfoot
Right here in Middle America a banner was seen that read:  "DEATH TO ISRAEL.  DEATH TO AMERICA."  An official of an organization was taped saying, "Our job is to change the Constitution of America."  This was coming from an banner at an Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) event with their official, the powerful Dr. Sayyid M. Syeed speaking.  This man who not only wields his leadership in the USA but also Canada, is heard from all over the world.  He has been on NBC, CBS, CBN, ABC, PBS and on  major programs like the Today show and Crossfire.  Along with another organization, The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), they already have been named as unindicted terrorist co-conspirators in 2008.  This came about in 2007 with the Holy Land Foundation (HLF) terrorists case who were financing terrorism.  They were named by the US Dept of Justice along with another group, the North American Islamic Trust (NAIT).  They were found to be integral parts of the effort to wage jihad against America through non violent means.

A New York Imam who was the speaker at their 2009 national convention, Warith Deen Umar, stated that the Holocaust happened because the Jews were seriously disobedient to Allah.  He also said that Jews close to Obama control the world.

Obviously with such rhetoric alone, one can conclude that the ISNA and CAIR are Muslim Brotherhood fronts.  With their continued importance, they have been regular guests at the Obama White House nevertheless.  In fact, the leaders of Hamas supporters are advising the US Secretary of State.  ISNA's two key directors and its president, Mohamed Magid work with Hillary Clinton in her office.

Huma Abedin has 3 members of her family working for the Muslim Brotherhood in important positions.  She has been an aide to Hillary Clinton and works in the State Department with her.  She had married Anthony Weiner and both were family friends of the Clintons.  This is another connection to the Muslim Brotherhood outlook on dealing with Israel.  Is there any question as to why Israel has been treated so rotten by both Obama and Hillary now?

All this is coming out in "The Grand Deception" a documentary by journalist Steve Emerson.  He shows how the Brotherhood has reached inside our USA political system over the past 20 years.  He shows Iman Siraj Wahhaj giving the invocation before Congress and in the next few days in Brooklyn calling this country a garbage can, and that it's filthy and prays that America crumbles and is replaced by Islam.  Then he calls for jihad.  Abdurahman Alamoudi, a former White House and State Department regular,  publicly denounced terrorism but later when with Muslims was praising Hamas and Hezbollah.

The Muslim Brotherhood Charter is chilling.  Article 15 starts out with:  The day that enemies usurp part of Muslim land, Jihad becomes the individual duty of every Muslim. In face of the Jews' usurpation of Palestine, it is compulsory that the banner of Jihad be raised. To do this requires the diffusion of Islamic consciousness among the masses, both on the regional, Arab and Islamic levels. It is necessary to instill the spirit of Jihad in the heart of the nation so that they would confront the enemies and join the ranks of the fighters."  For Israel and for the West, the Brotherhood is a "subversive menace" hiding in plain sight.  This group threatens all of us.   We have to take our blinders off and change the course, for they have become the Trojan Horse in our midst.

Clinton's Aide, Huma Abedin and the Qaradawi Connection

Nadene Goldfoot
Qaradawi

Qaradawi is the head religious Muslim Brotherhood leader that had been expelled from Egypt, of all places, for his extremist views.  For instance, he has now called a fatwa to kill all Jews regardless of where they live. He himself would do so even though he's in a wheelchair; he'd use his hands, he said.  Nice guy.  He found refuge with his friend, the Emir Shaikh Hamad Bin Khalifa al-Thani of Qatar, who is the absolute ruler of Qatar, and from there he broadcasts on Al-Jazeera TV, heard all over the world, even at Portland State U.  He also runs the "Union for Good", also called the "Union of Good", which is a terrorist organization under American law.  It was behind the "Peace flotilla" that tried to break Israel's blockade of Hamas (a Muslim Brotherhood Palestinian branch) in 2010.

This really bothers me.  Qatar has ingratiated themselves somehow into American politics and their money is buying favoritism in infinite bushels.  They're connected to major universities, like Carnegie Mellon, and have paid for teachers in Portland to teach Arabic that do not allow visitors in the class.  I've always had visitors in  all my 50 year teaching career, but the teacher wouldn't allow me to enter the classroom.  .

Qaradawi, Egyptian living in Qatar

Huma Abedin with Hillary Clinton

Anthony Weiner
So what has happened?  We have an "unusual" Jewish Congressman, Anthony Weiner, rather meshugena Democrat and US Rep, and I would bet a non-practicing Jew who had sent out a photo of his genitals on Twitter not too long ago, who was married to Huma Abedin, a practicing Muslim, working for Hillary Clinton, Secretary of State as an aide.  They had met through Hillary.  That is not too unusual in the United States in having a mixed religious marriage.  I myself dated a Muslim doctor from India in 1965 here in Oregon, and we had a wonderful compatible friendship.  I felt so sorry for Huma when it was broadcast about her husband's sexual weirdness.  Here she was pregnant.  What did Anthony's actions say about his values?

Huma was born in Michigan but her family moved to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia when she was 2.  Her father, Syed Zainul Abedin, an educator, was from British India who graduated from Aligarh Muslim University and had a PhD from U of Pennsylvania and is today an associate professor of sociology of Dar Al-Hekma College in Jeddah.  Her mother is Siham al-Qaradawi, the daughter of Sheikh Qaradawi, the religious personage who wants to kill all Jews, probably starting with her husband!  Siham, a chemistry student from Qatar,  had a Fulbright scholarship awarded to her in 2010-2011.   Huma had returned to the USA to attend George Washington U.  She worked as an intern for the White House in 1996, assigned to Hillary Clinton.  Huma still works for her.  In 2010 Clinton remarked at the Wiener-Abedin wedding that she had only one daughter, but if she had a 2nd daughter, it would be Huma.

Now we come again to Huma and Qaradawi.  Huma's mother, Saleha, is a member of the Muslim Brotherhood's female group, the Muslim sisterhood.  She's an active and important member in 2 groups of the Union for Good.  She's on their Internatonal Islamic Council for Dawa and Relief-HCDR.  It's banned in Israel for supporting Hamas under the name of the Union for Good.  She's on the International Islamic Committee for Woman and Child-HCWC-  She has been the head of this group for a long time since their charter was written by Sheikh Qaradawi, her father,  along with other members of the Muslim Brotherhood.  There's nothing wrong with supporting women and children in the Muslim world, but it's like having Hitler write up the agenda.

A long time ago we had a Joseph McCarthy who saw a Communist under every bush, and many innocent people were labeled and hurt by being called Communists.  That fear has bubbled over to this situation.  Those who are calling attention to the fact that Clinton has the daughter of a Muslim Brotherhood activist working for her, not to mention who is the granddauther of Qaradawi,  are the ones in trouble instead of the Muslim Brotherhood whose goal is to eradicate Israel and Jews.

We have Republican Michele Bachmann calling attention to this fact and she is being ridiculed for it.  Even McCain is afraid to draw attention to the fact that there might be a problem here.  Speaker Boehner doesn't see a Muslim Brotherhood problem, but the people calling attention to this fact.  Good grief!  Isn't it Bachmann's duty to question Abedin's loyalty, especially since she works so closely with Clinton, of all people and that Israel and Jews' lives are at stake?  This connection should certainly raise the eyebrows of Israel.  I don't even think Andrew C. McCarthy, "former Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York. A Republican, he is most notable for leading the 1995 terrorism prosecution against Sheik Omar Abdel Rahman and eleven others" .realizes the seriousness of this connection, and he spoke about it in a 90 minute talk at the National Press Club on Wednesday sponsored by the conservative Center for Security Policy.  His flip answer of "I'm a whack job, I guess," was lame when asked about why he was concerned.  Bachmann deserves better than that.  He is the author of "The Grand Jihad:  How Islam and the Left Sabotage America, " so should have known how the press would zero in on this statement.  It made the Oregonian this morning but nothing about his credentials.

8/14/12 Update: Walid Shoebat, former PLO terrorist and Muslim Brotherhood activist is spot-lighting the acts of terrorism.  Last Friday, President Obama voiced   strong support  for Huma Abedin during the Iftar dinner, saying the top aide to Secretary of State Hillary has been “nothing less than extraordinary in representing our country and the democratic values that we hold dear.”Frontpage interviewed Shoebat who had presented a 37 page paper exposing Huma Abedin that has been ignored by many.  Andrew McCarthy, prosecutor took it seriously.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton Says to have Direct Negotiations Once Again

Nadene Goldfoot
Hillary Clinton is also pushing for the two parties of the Palestinian PA and Israel to take advantage of a new political opening and goodwill gestures to resume peace negotiations and said this on a visit to Denmark. Netanyahu asked the Palestinians in person at the UN in a full assembly meeting.  He was ignored.  He asked again to give peace a chance to work.

A goodwill gesture on Israel's part was the release of 91 terrorist bodies to the PA with more to come in the future from the many terrorist attacks in killing Israelis.  So far, it hasn't moved Abbas, though.  He did accept the "gestures," however. Hillary, on the other hand, is encouraged by Israel's new formation of their unity government and sees it as the best for several years who can reach a negotiated agreement.  So she's nudging again, for something that hasn't happened since September 2010.

The PA is demanding: before they negotiate.  So they are negotiating to negotiate.

1. Israel recognize a Palestinian state along the 67 pre-border; which is indefensible.  They say they will go along with equal territorial swaps.
2. Israel stop all construction in Judea and Samaria and East Jerusalem.

Israel is also asking that: ( I say asking and not demanding because this is most likely what the peace talk would cover. )

1. The Palestinians recognize Israel as the Jewish state which is what the USA has done.  Also, since it passed the UN in 1948, the UN must have had a majority to do so likewise. (Quite frankly, I don't see how Abbas can do it being the Muslim Brotherhood and Qaradawi, religious leader in Qatar, are so against this as well as Iran. It seems to me that both Hamas and Fatah are not their own man anymore.  Without it, a peace agenda is useless. There must be recognition on both sides to work.)

The Palestinians have had 64 years to contemplate recognition of Israel.  The Palestinians were not thinking of creating a state until, sometime after 1967 when they saw that they didn't overtake this tiny country and drive it into the sea.  Taking over Israel was not going to be that easy.  Thus, the idea of their own state, which they were offered way back in 1948 and had refused with successive offers since.

Freedom of Speech in Peril in USA?

Nadene Goldfoot
One thing that sets the United States of America apart from many other nations is our freedom of speech.  Slander is another thing.  One can be sued for that.  Our country is for some reason or other concerned about Sharia law, which states that slander is anything concerning a Muslim that he would dislike.

That brings to mind many years ago in American Jewish communities where holocaust survivors has settled, and Nazis were marching through their neighborhoods, like Skokie, Illinois.  It brought terror to these people, but the ACLU said that it was freedom of speech and they had a right. "The challengers argued that the injunction violated the First Amendment rights of the marchers to express themselves freely".  I wasn't happy with their decision, but that's the way it was decided.

I was shocked at this display of speech, being Nazis were outlawed in Germany after the 2nd world war.  All of a sudden Islam has a lot of power here.

Possibly that's because 56 (and I thought there were only 48 Muslim majority countries counted by Wikipedia) Muslim countries plus the Palestinians are organized in a group larger than the UN, called the OIC.  They speak with authority and have the Cairo Declaration, exempting all Muslim countries from compliance with the UN declaration on Human rights and replacing it with their Islamic Shariah law.

But this is America, right?  The OIC has met to counter Islamophobia and even want this to go through the UN.  Now, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is going to host the OIC Secretary Genral Elmeleddin Ihsanoglu in Washington DC very soon this month and talk about how the US can implement their agenda to criminalize criticism of Islam.

Does that mean that I cannot warn my friends that the Muslim Brotherhood's top leader in Qatar, Qaradawi, has put out a fatwa on all Jews everywhere to be killed?  Or should we be able to separate Muslim politics from the Muslim religion where Qaradawi, a religious Muslim leader in the Muslim Brotherhood has been calling for the Muslim world to damage the US economy by boycotting American products, and who has appeared on Arab TV channels inciting Muslims by calling for Islam's conquest of Rome, warning the US to change their policies or face "collapse," and calling for another Holocaust against the Jews but this time at the hands of the Muslims.  In 2009 he told his Al-Jazeera audience "Oh Allah, do not spare a single one of them (Jews).  Oh Allah, count their numbers, and kill them, down to the very last one."  The Koran has other sections also telling readers to look under rocks or behind bushes to kill Jews.  That actually happened when Islam was first created as there were Jewish tribes living in Saudi Arabia who were massacred unless they converted to Islam.  Jews felt that Islam was converting by the sword.  That's one reason why Jews do not try to go out to convert people.  We ourselves have had  terrible experiences  with people trying to convert us.  They don't call us stiff-necked for nothing.  We're not ready subjects.  So now Islam's religion is just ready to kill us all and skip the conversion part.

Iran has joined the bandwagon and has gone from "Destroy Israel!" to "Destroy all the Jews!"  They wish to annihilate Jews worldwide instead of their previous goal of wiping Israel off the map.  These people read the ever-popular book, Elders of Zion and base their philosophy on that.  They've come out with their own book "How Israel should be destroyed", basing a lot on the Elders book.

This thought of attacking our freedom of speech is coming at a bad time.  In Egypt, the Muslim Brotherhood wants to re-evaluate their peace treaty with Israel now that they are creating a new parliament.  They think it's been a long time since the Camp David accord was signed and needs the review, reported Mahmoud Hussein, the new secretary-general.  He added that "Generally, Israel does not honor the agreement."  So you know where he is going with his re-evaluations.  The Brotherhood has a political wing, "The Freedom and Justice Party", which got 36.5% of the vote.  After reading their declarations concerning Israel and Jews, I doubt strongly if this new group will follow in Mubarak's footsteps in wanting peace with Israel.

To top it off, Hillary is getting women of Israel and the Muslim countries mixed up in her mind.  Rabbi Shlomo Amar, a chief rabbi in Israel, said her knowledge on the subject was incomplete.  Separate gender seating on buses is not required by Jewish law.  Israel is a country where the IDF couldn't do without their female sergeants who help train young soldiers.  They're tough, I've been told.  Israe's rabbis and women are most vocal and will take care of any misunderstandings themselves.  Don't worry.  The fact that in Mea She'arim there were women sitting apart was their choice, not Judaism's.  If she wants to help women, she should look into what's going on with Muslim women in other countries.

When we returned from Israel the tail end of 1985, we found an upstairs apartment in SW Portland.  Below us, to my great surprise, was a Muslim fellow.  At Passover I opened the door for Elijiah and wondered if he could hear us.  We got along fine.  Up the street from the pre-school I was working at was a Mosque.  Gosh, I was beginning to feel like I was back in Israel again.  To be sure, there are hopefully many Muslims who do not follow the Muslim Brotherhood's dictums that are living here in the USA.  But that does not mean that there aren't some that do, or that such a belief is not growing throughout the world.

Little things happen, like bringing DAM, a hip-hop 3 man Palestinian Israeli group to Lincoln High and the next thing heard was a student saying how she hated Israel.  Israeli Jews live here as well in this city.  None of us want to hear lies about ourselves, our religion or Israel.  We also love freedom of speech, so certainly are not looking forward to losing that one special right in the United States.

When Israel is picked on and attacked by Muslim countries, one winds up feeling that there is something wrong between Jews and Muslims, and that this is a religious war.  That's confirmed by putting out a fatwa against all Jews everywhere.  Yet people aren't going to be able to say anything about Muslims?  This outrageous thought of passing such an idea hasn't got a leg to stand on.  I hope Hillary has the gumption to tell Elmeleddin Ihsanoglu a thing or two about what America is all about.  What a great teaching moment she has in her hands.

Saul Alinsky: Teacher of Community Organizers

Barack Obama’s Teacher, Saul David Alinsky
by Nadene Goldfoot

In either 1889 or 1895, Benjamin Alinsky immigrated from Vilna, Lithuania, now Russia, for the United States . He was a tailor. He was Jewish, 29 years old and headed for the Jewish community in Chicago, Illinois. He had met and married Hannah in 1896, a Jewish girl who was born in New York.

On June 8, 1900, I find Benjamin and Hannah Alinsky in Chicago in the 7th Ward. He was 30 years old and Hannah was 28. They had had two boys; Harry age 2, born July 1897 and Max 8 months was born in Sept 1899 or 15 Oct 1898. Benjamin was naturalized in 1910 and was then a citizen. Reading the records makes me realize how difficult it was for the immigrants to understand questions in English, as I keep getting some off-beat answers.

Later, I see that on Jan 7, 1920, Ben is still in Chicago, now 49 years old, and has his own tailor shop. However, Hannah must have died as he is now married to Sarah Rice who is twenty years younger than he is. She was also born in Russia. They have one son living with them; Saul D. Alinsky, born January 30, 1909. They were living on 12th Street or Roosevelt Road in the 13th ward. It makes me wonder if Hannah and her two boys hadn’t died in some accident or disease. This means that something had happened to them before 1908. Saul has spoken about how he was influenced by his mother, Sarah Rice, a great deal, so I imagine she was his birth mother. "She taught him that...individuals [must] be responsible for other individuals and that you can't just walk away when you see something that's not right."
"Then I found Max at age 19 registering for the WWI Draft on September 19, 1918. He was tall and slender, working as a timekeeper for the railroad.
Later, I find that Benjamin died on April 26, 1952 in Los Angeles, CA.

Education is vitally important to Jewish families, so Sol went to the University of Chicago in the field of criminology. He studied and was around the Capone gang. He developed his ideology and concepts of mass organization and work in organizing the poor which are internationally recognized, and felt that crime was born from being so poor. If anyone has read The Jungle by Upton Sinclair, you know about the horrific working conditions in the Union Stock Yards of Chicago of that era. When I read the book, I was horrified by the condition of our meat supply from the Chicago Stockyards, as my father was also born in 1908 and was a meat packer.
In the 1930's, Alinsky organized the Back of the Yards neighborhood and went on to found the Industrial Area Foundation while organizing the Woodlawn neighborhood, which trained organizers and helped in the founding of community organization around the country.

In 1971 he published his final work, Rules for Radicals. Then he died the next year. In that book he addressed the 60's generation of radicals, relating his views on organizing for mass power. He wrote," What follows is for those who want to change the world from what it is to what they believe it should be." It is said that Alinsky championed new ways to organize the poor and powerless that created a backyard revolution in cities across America.

Cesar Chavez and Barack Obama were students of his labor organizing. Alinsky was the subject of Hillary Rodham’s senior honors thesis at Wellesley College. She commented on Alinsky’s charm, but said that one of the problems of his model is that the removal of Alinsky dramatically alters its composition. She agreed with some of his ideas, mainly the value of empowering people to help themselves. She disagreed with his saying that you could change the system only from the outside. Diane Alden in 2003 called Alinsky a Marxist grassroots organizer. Others said, "He was a compassionate social reformer of magnitude and wisdom and brought together community groups to work with the socially aware churches."

He published "Reveille for Radicals 1946, 1969 and Rules for Radicals, a Pragmatic Primer for Realistic Radicals.1971. He was explaining how to be an agitator.

"The agitator's job, according to Alinsky, is first to bring folks to the "realization" that they are indeed miserable, that their misery is the fault of unresponsive governments or greedy corporations, then help them to bond together to demand what they deserve, and to make such an almighty stink that the dastardly governments and corporations will see imminent "self-interest" in granting whatever it is that will cause the harassment to cease."

"It is a fact that activist-cum senator Barack Hussein Obama started off his career as an activist with a position as a community organizer for the Developing Communities Project (DCP) of the Calumet Community Religious conference (CCRC) in Chicago. Both the CCRC and the DCP were built on the Alinsky model of community agitation, wherein paid organizers learned, in Alinsky’s own words, how to "rub raw the sores of discontent" stated David Alinsky, his son.

Therefore, Barack Obama has learned some of his very persuasive skills as a community organizer from the son of a Jewish tailor. He was only 25 years old when he started this position. Though Alinsky called his book or materials "radical," Obama simply read them. That doesn't make him radical or untrustworthy.
When he has talked about being a "Community Organizer," I had a completely different idea about what he was doing. I thought he was more like a counselor, helping people to get jobs or skills. I had no idea that it involved such ideas. Obama might become president of the USA, and Cesar Chavez supporters have been pushing for a major street in Portland to be named for him.

Democratic Presidential Candidate's Views On Israel

Nadene Goldfoot
Now that the candidates are speaking and people are voting, I am one of the 15% of Jews who consider what their views are about Israel. I think we are lucky to have such fantastic people in the running, but guess that some are more opinionated than others about Israel. I want the person who not only is the best for America, but also for Israel. We don’t need another holocaust there, and a good president will value the country and their lives.

First, I looked at Hillary Clinton, b: 26 Oct 1947 and Methodist. She is 60 years old and has been the senator from New York for 7 years. She graduated from Yale Law School. I quickly found that she has a marvelous website about her views and deeds involving Israel. Go to: http://clinton.senate.gov/issues/nationalsecurity/israel/. I found it by googling: Clinton, Israel,
and read about her accomplishments concerning Israel. She has even gone against her husband’s decision about Jerusalem being divided. It appears right now that she would not push to divide it. I was very impressed with the information on her website and feel that this shows she is a well organized person who values the votes of the less than 1% of the Jews of America. She isn’t all talk and promises; she’s a doer and has done well so far. She was in favor of moving the American embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. I'm all for that! On Haaretz's ratings, she received an overall score of 7.63, which was high. However, the memory of Hillary's kiss for Yasser Arafat's wife Suha in 1999, after she accused Israel of poisoning Palestinian women and children, is still fresh in the memory of many Jews.

Next, I looked at Barack Obama, who just won in South Carolina, and was endorsed by the Kennedy family. He is 46 years old, b: 4 Aug 1961 and member of United Church of Christ for past 20 years, and has been a senator from Illinois for 3 years, since Jan 4, 2005.
2/25/08 He has selected his foreign policy adviser. Sadly, it is a man who supports Walt and Mearsheimer's volume against the Israel Lobby. He is Zbigniew Brzezinski, Harvard Professor from Poland who became a citizen in 1958. He was a part of Carter's team, so it is not surprising that he is also holding anti-Israel feelings. This foreign Relations Advisor to Obama will probably have a lot of clout with him. I note that Alan Dershowitz has contributed to Hilary Clinton's campaign. Alan is a Harvard law professor, and Obama graduated from Harvard. I heard a news bulletin today that told about how he felt about Israel, and it wasn't that promising; in fact, it was scary. I need to see it in print. I note from below that promises or support in Israel's welfare is changing, as is usual for many politicians. For example, just look at past presidents.

He made a speech to AIPAC on March 2, 2007 and stated these issues:
1. He ensures a strong US -Israel partnership
2. He supports Israel's right to self defense
3. He wants to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons
4. He supports foreign assistance to Israel
5. He works towards two states living side by side in peace and security
6. He wants to help Palestinian families get the aid they need without suppporting terrorism
7. He wants to limit Hezbollah's influence in the region.
8. He supports US-Israel research and development
9. He wants to achieve energy independence.
In his speech he mentions that our job is to do more than lay out another road map; our job is to rebuild the road to real peace and lasting security throughout the region.

Ha'aretz Newspaper in Israel said that Obama sounds as strong as Clinton, as supportive as Bush and as friendly as Giuliani. He is pro-Israel. Period.

I could not find a website like Hillary’s, but have found some articles that are wary about his feelings about Israel. Ed Lasky has written several such articles. One thing he is concerned about is that Obama has only been a senator for two years, and has not done much to show how he feels in foreign policy. The problem I see is that Obama has been surrounded by friends that are not favorable towards Israel. Some troubling thoughts are things such as his name. He has a Muslim father. Though he was not raised by him, his mother did remarry another Muslim, and he had a smattering of Muslim education which is not favorable towards Jews , and it's been hard to find Muslims favorable towards Israel.

We all know that he is now a Christian, but the church he has been attending is the Trinity United church of Christ, and their Pastor Wright is a supporter of Louis Farrakhan. In 1984 Farrakhan and Wright traveled to visit Col. Muammar al-Gadaffi, who is a supporter of terror groups and archenemy of Israel and America. Wright has been a severe critic of Israel. His pastor and mentor, being a fan of Louis Farrakhan, who called Judaism either "a dirty religion" or "a gutter religion," depending on the reading of the audiotape, causes concern. Obama has publicly distanced himself from Wright now that he is in the presidential race. Another friend of Obama to worry about is a well-known Chicago activist for Palestinian causes, Ali Abunimah. He met Obama in May of 1998 at a community fundraiser where the late Edward Said was the speaker. Edward Said was a severe critic of Israel. Abunimah has written columns for the Chicago Tribune and has been critical of Israeli and US policy. I would classify Obama as an extreme leftist Democrat. He has worked with the poor in the states and may be identifying the Palestinians as the poor ill treated people who problems are all due to the mean Israelis. When asked about Israel’s wall that was constructed to save Israeli lives from terrorists, he said, "the creation of a wall dividing the two nations is yet another example of the neglect of this Administration in brokering peace." I note that Palestine is not yet a country or nation. The fence is saving the lives of many innocent civilians in Israel. Less than 5% is a wall; the rest is a fence.
3/16/08: Saturday's Oregonian article:Obama condemns pastor's words but won't quit church page A3. It amazes me that Obama has been attending this church for the past 20 years, yet claims that the pastor has never used such words as have been on TV the past few days villifying the USA and saying, "damn the USA" and He has always just preached the gospel, claims Obama.
Pastor Wright said that the United States invited the attacks by supporting Israel's treatment of Palestinians. This pastor is now retiring from his Chicago church. Obama has been busy denying. I can't help but wonder how much has influenced Obama and his wife's thinking after attending for 20 years. I heard his wife speak about how this is the first time she has been proud of America. It seems to me that she certainly was influenced by Wright's sermons if this is the first time, meaning that her husband is now running for president, that she is proud. This same church ha honored Louis Farrakhan with an award in Wright's name. Obama claims that his interest in the church is because of their work with the poor and homeless and those with HIV/AIDS. Obama says he strongly condems the statements. They make him feel uncomfortable.

If I were attending a synagogue that I did not agree with, it wouldn't even take me 6 months to change to another one. Why has he attended for 20 years? He and his wife, two super intelligent lawyers, had to learn at some point about how much of an agitator their pastor was and what he stood for politically. Nothing has been brought out that the Obamas tried to change him in any way.

What’s interesting is that the Republican, McCain, was just on television and spoke about how he knows how to have a fence between Mexico and the USA and all the things he would have on it to keep the Mexicans out. I don’t believe that Obama understands the value of such a fence at all. He doesn’t realize that in Israel, this fence or wall is saving lives. Obama now has the approval of billionaire George Soros who has tried to shake the American-Israel alliance by donating to Wesley Clark who is a severe critic of Israel, and has written an essay that is critical of the ties between America and Israel. Also approving Obama is ex President Jimmy Carter. In fact, some are calling him the next Jimmy Carter. Need I say more? That is the kiss of my vote not going towards Obama, I had felt before discovering the AIPAC speech. Now, I think I'll just say "present", and not yes or no. This is how Obama handled voting time in Illinois as a state senator many times. I know that everybody is speaking nicely and saying things we want to hear in order to win votes. What matters is: actions. On Haaretz's rating, he received an overall score of 4.88, which was the lowest score of all the candidates. He was weakest on his answer about if he would take military action to stop Iran's nuclear weapons plan. His highest was playing a role in the peace process and having an emotional tie to Israel. He talks about bringing change. I just hope that his change would not be to be against AIPAC , being it supports Israel but is chastized by Mearshimer and Walt and ex President Carter unfairly. He has never stated just what kind of change he would bring.
Edited 1/28/6:31pm. with positive information about Obama.

1/29/08 I keep finding more information on Obama, both good and bad. One of his inner circle friends is Robert Malley, a foreign policy critic of Israel. However, Obama just spoke to Jerusalem and Jewish reporters in a conference call from Florida at 12:00, just an hour ago. It it he states these views:

1. He opposes the return of all Palestinian refugees to homes they fled in Israel.
2. He says that Israel must remain a Jewish state. refugees should be resettled in a future Palestinian state.
3. Palestinians must set up a security force to make sure militants cannot attack Israel.
4. He is against talks with Hamas who control the Gaza Strip until it recognizes Israel's right to exist.
5. He wants diplomatic contacts between Iran and US, and believes in carrots and sticks.
Iran is Israel's biggest worry right now because Iran has vowed Israel's destruction, and the fear is that they might be developing nuclear arms. They say they only need energy.
4/5/08 Co chair for Obama's presidential campaign is General Merrill McPeak, resident of Lake Oswego, Oregon. He is against the Israel Lobby in the United States. He has spoken out against Israel's settlement policies in the Palestinian territories and U.S.'s lack of interference. He wants Israel to withdraw some of the settlements that are already there. This was voiced in 1976 in an article to Foreign Affairs Journal. He's also against the Christian Zionist movement's influence on US foreign policy in the Middle East. It appears that anyone that is supportive of Israel is someone he is against. There is an article about him in the Oregonian that came out on 3/27/08.

John Edwards is the former senator for North Carolina. He has said that Iran is a big threat to Israel and the Israeli people. When asked what the greatest threat to world peace was, he answered, "Israel would bomb Iran's nuclear facilites." This was not very positive in viewing Israel. He was strongest about viewing Israel as a stategic asset. His overall score was 6.25.
